- Just two weeks after raising the sales tax to pay for pensions, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is moving to give tens of millions of dollars a year in pay hikes to county workers.
Legislation introduced yesterday by the county chief would extend raises of up to 6.5 percent throughout county government. Only those who make more than $200,000 in annual salary would be excluded.
The proposal, sent to a Cook County Board committee for review, extends to other unionized employees new contracts with some county unions that were negotiated earlier this year.
It then goes a step further: It proposes granting raises to nonunion workers, too.
The price tag totals roughly $130 million in raises over a five-year period—$50 million alone in fiscal 2016.
The above is from 2015, so you know that Toni has been expecting to raise taxes across the board for a while. Dart has increased the number of six-figure jobs by how many again? Foxxx has how many extra "deputies" and such?

The article is from 2015. The silly taxpayers only remember the last month of controversy, they get angry, then they vote these clowns back in.
I was at the grocery store with my family the other day all the tags in the soda isle had what the final price would be after the soda tax was implemented at the register. Some people weren't paying attention until they got to the register and were shocked at the total of their bill. Some people returned the soda immediately. After seeing this most of the registers had liters and jugs of soda laying in the magazine racks and on the floor where the baskets usually go.
It definitely woke people up. The tax added to a gallon of ice tea was $1.80!

Democrats are not done raising taxes. Nickel and dime us to death. Good decent taxpayers are fleeing Chicago, Crook County, and the State of Illinois. On top of everything else Chicago's water bottle tax, 7 cents for a plastic bag at the store, and now Toni Prickwankles 1 cent per ounce sugar tax. Giving pay raises to County workers is an insult.

I work in the IT industry. Years ago, the potential was there for Chicago to become a leader and increase the tax base. But it was a waste of time talking to the poverty pimps, the politicians and the revruns The business community followed suit but ended up either outsourcing or hiring out of state. Example, now these are contract gigs (non union, at will) but I can make 50, 60 a hour on a contract. Training is minimal, you do need some training but it is very affordable and most of it is free now. I volunteered to run a facility, but unless you are running a facility for anti crime bullshit, you cannot get any assistance Well I gave up and now just help out myself and several friends. But example there are agencies, most in different cities, making millions of dollars doing this. And Chicago has the real estate for data centers and more Amazon distribution centers.

Also, a poorly disguised "covert" vehicle (mid 2000s Dodge Caravan, White in color and kind of dirty with excessive roof vents and a couple aftermarket antennas. No plates). Had a camera trained on the California side garage entrance/exit, presumably filming pedestrian and vehicular traffic coming and going.
The witch hunt continues.
Hopefully Trump puts all these crooks behind bars.

You have found out what every taxpayer in Cook County needs to know. Most of the County budget goes for salaries and the salaries of many public employees far exceeds their privatge sector counterparts, are often for unneeded jobs, useless and makework jobs. A great example is the County Clerk, Dorthy Brown, who has yet to automate her department. Her department still runs on paper reports and MS DOS computer software so she can hire a whole bunch of useless people to work, patronage at its finest.
Raise taxes and redistribute other peoples' wealth - the Dem's preferred solution to everything when they have no other ideas. Unwilling to tackle any legitimate solutions to cure problems and by which to remain in power (teach a man to fish), they resort to handing out money to their voter base (give the man a fish.)
If change is ever to come, it's so far in the future as to be non-existent for this generation and the next. Plan accordingly.
That is why I can't wait to get the fuck out of this county shithole.

I did not have the chance to comment yesterday about Prickwinkle's $17MIL lawsuit against the IRMA but I will do so now. I was not in the courtroom and I haven't reading the pleadings but here my 2 cents.
The IRMA filed a complaint alleging that the soda tax was unconstitutional. The County no doubt responded with a routine motion to dismiss. The motion - if filed - was obviously denied because the case proceeded.
Then, the IRMA filed a motion for an injunction to prohibit the County from collecting the tax, pending the outcome of the lawsuit. The standard for granting the motion is that the plaintiff must establish at least a reasonable likelihood of prevailing on the merits. The judge must have thought so because THE JUDGE GRANTED THE MOTION FOR THE INJUNCTION.
The IRMA ultimately lost the case and an appeal was filed.
What Pricktinkle doesn't understand - or refuses to acknowledge - is that is was THE JUDGE who granted the motion, and not the IRMA, that prevented Prickwinkle from collecting the tax.
So the bitch responds with a $17MIL lawsuit against the IRMA? Is she out of her mind?
First, the IRMA should respond with a motion to dismiss, which I am sure they will. Second, the IRMA should move for sanctions against the County's lawyer who is representing the County. He absolutely deserves it. Third, someone should file a complaint with the ARDC against the County's lawyer. He is a disgrace to the profession.
This is frivolous litigation at its worst. Pricktinkle is using the unlimited power and finances of the government to harass a private party, without justification. Just who da fuck does she think she is? If that's the way you want to govern, you should move to North Korea.

In the real world, a department manager who has a college degree and with lots of experience in the field, possibly even a graduate degree ( such as nursing) would make between 85-100 grand a year. This manager would work overtime for no extra money and have a lot of responsibility. There is no pension and no health care when you retire. These managers work until age 65 because of this. In the world of county government this manager would make 120-150 grand per year, retire in their 50's for a fat pension, have little to do when they are working, no degree required and possibly not even work in their job description. Theymight even be an assistant to the manager. Lets not even talk about what our educators make as they makethe average working professional look like pikers.

I doubt seriously that any large or small police department follows the UCR requirements to its letter. I came on the job in 1968 and we were killing crime back then by orders of the beat sergeant. The department had review officers at one time to do the same thing, reclassify crimes. The detective division had detectives in review to also reclassify crime. Nothing new here.Following the UCR and reporting crime to the FBI is not a requirement, only a request.

That van is nothing have you seen the small white vans with "apple maps" on the side with cameras all 4 corners and 6 satellite antennas spinning on the top? Let me say this-if you have the chance look inside, i talked to 2 people driving them talk about sate of the art i asked why they seem to be everywhere, they said "cannot say" the video inside is incredible and instantly transmitted via HD and they have sound also, if you have the opportunity to stop and bullshit with them the vans are a telling story! Be careful whatever you do, seems everyone to watching us:

And half of those people more than likely are able bodied but have a bullshit felony case where they cannot even interview for a gig that would take them off welfare. Our society punishes you for LIFE for minor offenses. I know, it happened to me. But guess what I got a work around. I work pay my taxes and such. Other are not so lucky. The bullshit Safer Foundation wanted me to work for 10 a hour rehabbing homes. Fuck you The local revrun wanted me to assist the youth for minimum wage while he drives a late model SUV and lives in the suburbs. We have a problem in this state. Lack of economic development. But I am sure there are several six figure people in that department though, with full benefits and pension. But you do not want to focus on them. Being on welfare is your concern right?

On Friday evening, Mary Ann Ahern of NBC-WMAQ-Channel 5 news was a panel member on PBS-WTTW-Channel 11's Chicago Week In Review. She said the sugary-drink tax has been successfully implemented in other places and that 9.5 probably wishes he thought of it before Prickwrinkle. I wonder if the "other places" were being run by the democRATS? Regardless, should we all feel good because other people are getting jammed just like us, except their hosings started earlier?

Citizen reader: 6.5% increase and we wonder why we are broke and waive pension contributions. I work in private industry and got 3.5% as a top 1/3 contributor on the merit pay scale in March. Of course then Mike Madigan engineered a 32% income tax hike and I lost $105 each month in increased income tax in July. And people wonder why I cannot wait to move out of IL in 20 months. This is only one example of why.

Get a little more information before you comment. Thelow-income neighborhoods don't pay the tax because of the number on food stamps and welfare. They are exempt from the soda tax so I guess the people who consume this unhealthy produce are exempt and can continue their unhealthy ways. I'm sure that the na and pa stores in the ghetto also are not charging the soda tax from the other residents either
