LODD Down This Year

  • The number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty dropped sharply in 2017, marking the second-lowest toll in more than 50 years.

As of Thursday, 128 officers have died in the line of duty this year, with 44 shot and killed. That's down 10% from 2016, when 143 officers died, with 66 gunned down, according to data released by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a nonprofit aimed at honoring officers and improving safety.

The only other year with fewer deaths in the past five decades was 2013, when 116 officers were killed.
One is too many and the lower numbers are little comfort to the families, friends and co-workers of the 128 who died. Godspeed to the Fallen.

"LODD Down This Year"

What? How can "the community"
stand still for this outrage?

That only means that The Police
are selfishly protecting themselves.

Arrests are WAAYY down too.

So is Police interaction with the public.

But guess what's UP though?

Thaaat's riiight...

C R I M E.

Isn't this what a war against
The Police and Policing looks like?

Especially here in Chicago?

Heh...

Police Like You Have No Friends.

We can blame many of the 2016 deaths on Obama and the lower 2017 number as a direct result of officers learning that it doesn't make sense to be a proactive officer when a Democrat politician will throw you under the bus for a few votes.

Obama and the democrats stole the nations moral compass and pawned it for a few votes and left your grandchildren with the cost of having to replace it, how sad.

It's almost like having a president who is not calling for a race war and running down cops at every opportunity has made a difference.

I’m fairly certain the number has dropped based on the declining amount of proactively. I for one have stopped chasing shitheads through dark gangways whom I suspect have a gun. I find myself asking why, “why am I risking my life, job, and freedom for a gun case that will likely result in a short prison stay for the offender, possibly even time considered served if he sat through the entire trial process. “ Then I remember Tommy will see to it that the shitheads bond is low enough for him to get back onto the street ASAP. Why bother doing anything. The 1st & 16th is all that matters..

The good news is fewer are being gunned down by criminals in 2017. What changed?

Maybe it is because now we have leaders that stand up for the police, not the criminals?

Thank President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions!

Imagine if Crook County had an SA like Jeff Sessions?

Is it probable that the anti-police attitudes causing police tp become fetal in places like Chicago and Baltimore are causing coppers across the country to limit their contacts with the public and reduce proactive policing? Totally understandable and totally brought to you by the Democratic Party and the corrupt mainstream media.

Stay safe.

POTUS Hussein whipped his minions into a police hating frenzy in August of 2014 over Darren Wilson and continued that right up to 20 Jan 17.

Where is exonerated and justified former Officer Darren Wilson of Ferguson, Mo today?

We discussed all of this on last nights chalk talk with the recruits.

Tonight, we brush up on ISR’s.

God bless President Trump.

Below 100 is a nationwide program with the goal of bringing LODDs below 100 yearly. See: https://www.below100.org/

It has been successfully in reducing deaths in agencies that have implemented it, yet here leadership has rejected it.

Not sure about that. Chicago has not had a CPD Officer shot and killed in the line of duty since 2011, way before this fetal position. This is great and I hope it continues forever but I’m not sure what caused it. Just sayin

This is good news but it could be a whole lot better regarding LODD’s involving crashes.
Wear your seatbelts and drive safely to your in progress calls & calls for assist.
Remember, you're doing your fellow Officers no favors if you never make it to their 10-1’s.
Be safe!!!

At least part of this can be attributed to having a new man in the white house. Someone NOT calling the Police stupid and NOT sending white house rep's to the graveside services of criminals killed by Police.

But the numbers are too high, you, and your families, should never have to give so much.
R.I.P. Officers, and may God comfort your families.

My fellow brothers and sisters in Blue. Think about this for a minute.

The CCSAO reviewed the case and decided not to CHARGE. We all know that the CCSA FOXX is a POLICE HATER, along with the Cook County President, RHAM EMAUNEL, and the rest of them that need the votes of those that this decision will please. The CCSAO will charge a police officer in a police involved shooting the second they see an opportunity, even if they know it is a shit case. Nonetheless, they are attorneys and realize that they could endure the same problems as the prosecutor in Baltimore who maliciously prosecuted INNOCENT OFFICERS. So they did not charge this case.
The Corp Counsel, in fact the 3rd person in charge, reviewed the case and decided to file a lawsuit similar to the officer's indicating that the blame should be placed on the deceased not the OFFICER or the City. Again, they are Attorneys and know the law. Do you think that they would have done that if the LAW did not clearly support their decision. However, RHAM decides that it is callous and order the Corp Counsel to drop the lawsuit. You could bet that the lawyer will be fired from that office. RHAMS decision was NOT based on the LAW, but due to political strategy. RHAM does not follow the law, unless it benefits him. That is why he is quoted saying that he did not want the release of the JVD video to occur because at the time, the CPD protocol and the law did not call for it's release. It had nothing to do with his reelection, yea Right. If you believe that than you are one of the few that believe Eddie Johnson is a good Supt. He is not respected, to be trusted, and not smart or savvy enough to be in that position.
The COPA "Investigators", who are not lawyers, and definitely not seasoned investigators, review the evidence and determine that they do not believe that the officer reasonably believed that he was in danger of death or serious injury. They say that it was more likely that the officer was between the bottom of the porch and the sidewalk out front of the residence. I ask one question, if you have been called to a job because a man is acting strange and is making threats and you arrive and see a grown man (COLLEGE AGE) standing there with a bat and you tell him to drop the bat and he doesn't, will that make you feel warn and fuzzy or reasonably believe that something isn't right and perhaps there is danger afoot. Remember this was at approximately 0440 hours, very dark and low lighting. You think about that for a minute Mr. or Mrs. COPA Investigator. This decision was strictly to overshadow that fact that the CCSAO and Corp Counsel believed the Officer and decided to do the lawfully right thing, but perhaps it wasn't politically correct. It certainly did not fit the narrative of little RHAM.
Oh and by the way, EJ will not stand up and make the right decision. I would love to see the responses as to why you, the smart SCC readers, think he will not stand up.
Lastly, the UNIONS need to unite and make some noise by demanding the Supt make a decision and give a DETAILED EXPLANATION as to why he came to that finding. He should do it in his own words, not a script written out for him by MEDIA AFFAIRS. DO NOT let him hide behind this. We should start demanding this now. Remember, that this could have implications on all of us. The officers, Dets, Sgts, LTs, Capts, and Exempts.

FOP and PBPA, if you do nothing you are contributing to the problem and you too should leave. DO SOMETHING. Start a vote of no confidence for EJ. Use the fact that our PRESIDENT has indicated that he has our back in our favor, we should collectively stand against MRE, and write a letter to the DOJ and PRESIDENT TRUMP asking for a review of this case and others. We should ask them to look at not just the facts of the case or incident itself, but to also look as to how RHAM makes decisions and ensures that COPA or the Corp Counsel do what is right for him. Ironically CCSA FOXX did the right thing in this case.

Is there a correlation between the Obama-hole/Holder administration being gone, and the decrease in LODD's? Very likely. When the O-hole/H-hole failed to do their jobs as chief officers of the Executive branch, we noted a huge spike in assaults/LODD's on officers nationwide. Fortunately, with those numbskulls out of office, we are seeing line of duty deaths and assaults on officers dropping, but we need to remain ever vigilant. Speaking of A-holes, we should also note that the Rahm-hole does not care about police officers, CPD, or following the law in general anyway. Apparently he is still blowing lights (that's got to hurt his lips in this icy weather!). Stay safe out there boys and girls!

I wonder how much of this drop has to do with staying fetal and the miracles modern hospitals can perform.

Unfortunately the drop in LODD's will be used by Leftists to further "police reform" and push the BLM narrative.

I never understood why anyone gave a dime to the Catholic Church. People complain about paying taxes and yet are willing give money to a quasi-political organization. They use fear of the "afterlife" to get money out of people. They do $h!t for the middle class except take their money and give it to those who do not want to work. The priests live like kings and they have covered up many a pedophile scandal over the years.
I know a lot of you send your kids to catholic school because you don't want your kids to go to public school. Guess what? You pay taxes for them. Do a little research and find a good public school. They are out there. You may have to actually drive your kid to school. There are some great teachers who do not follow the political narrative of the teachers union. Kind of like most of us don't follow the political narrative of the Mayor.
Stop screwing yourselves, use the things you pay taxes for.
And if you really want to give to charity do your homework. There are some great ones out there. Just not the Catholic church.

On the job deaths have been on the decline since the 1960's. With exception to the year of 2001 obviously. This can be attributed to many things. From health care, to training, more healthy lifestyles, etc.

For the last 100 years, transportation accidents and illness have been the largest causes of on duty deaths. Seat-belts being standard and everyone not smoking a pack of Lucky Strikes a day is probably the biggest reason for this general decline.

It has nothing to do with Obama or Trump and there is no quantifiable data to support this. Sheesh use your brain!

There's a website that's lists the deceased officer. Also lists the age, years of service and cause if death. It's officer Down Memorial Page.
