More Rifles

Tribune Reporter Peter Nickeas has a decent article about the proliferation of rifles on the southwest side being used extensively in a couple of different Hispanic gang wars:
  • One late afternoon over Labor Day weekend in 2016, near the arches welcoming truck drivers into the old stockyards south of Bridgeport, a gunman in a red minivan leveled a rifle and fired at a motorcyclist.

The gunman hit the bike but not the driver. An officer found .223-caliber casings, the kind used in rifles modeled after the AR-15. The rounds leave large, jagged wounds. If used by someone trained to shoot, they can hit a target from 650 yards. A city block is 220 yards.

Two gangs — the Saints and La Razas — had been sporadically using rifles for six months. This was the fourth rifle shooting in seven days. It would get much worse in the months ahead, something an officer at the scene seemed to sense.
As usual, the gun nomenclature used by both Nickeas and the police laves a lot to be desired. They use buzzwords designed to inflame the ill-informed. That's to be expected in a liberal town run by liberal politicians who control the media via liberal editors. But it's an interesting article for the conflicts it outlines, that officers elsewhere might now have a good feel for.

Hey, with Rahm declaring Chicago a "sanctuary city" for the cartel hangers-on, might some of this violence be directly attributable to the 5th Floor at City Hall?

Let us all give thanks that these miscreants prefer the thrill of relatively up close assassination, rather than what a long gun is capable of.

Though, were these thrill addicted knuckleheads ever to switch to authentic sniper techniques, one wonders if the collateral damage might be reduced......

Deadly, high powered, assault rifle! According to progressive idjits. According to gun people, these damn things are, wait for it.....Mouse guns. Wanna know why they call them mouse guns? Because at more than 100 yards they become less effective for what people actually use these for, killing Bambi. They're hell on wheels at 20 yards on a human target, but for a hunting weapon, they aren't worth much at all.

So here's a question, If they're not really good for hunting much more than a pig or a deer at fairly close range, are they really high powered?

Peter nickeas is a good guy always has come across as reasonable and pro police. It's just that the media is biased in general. There's writing standards journalists and editors go by the most popular being the AP stylebook.

Here's an excerpt from an article on this issue

"Illegal immigrant" and "undocumented" aren't acceptable anymore either. "Illegals" and "alien" were already forbidden a few years ago. Although "illegal immigration" is still acceptable, it's not clear what words are supposed to replace the forbidden words. The word "amnesty" contains no reference to illegal immigrants, instead instructing, "See pardon, parole, probation."

The stylebook also instructs writers to use confusing language about guns in order to create a negative impression about them. Semi-automatic rifles that have add-on parts intended to increase shooting accuracy are to be called "assault weapons," despite the fact the term has referred to fully automatic weapons used by the military for years. The latter are now referred to as "assault rifles," and the two are often conflated. Adding even more to the confusion, the phrase "military style" is recommended to describe assault weapons.

True the illegal invaders from every country are destroying this city-state-county and the pathetic theft of city money like rahm did when he viciously took away the paltry sum for CPD retirees health care, then added more taxpayers millions and freely gave away that money! this is a criminal act, disobeying federal laws and then giving billions away all for an illegally gotten vote! Will the feds ever do their jobs and make the arrests here of the elected criminals? Then rahm boldly gets on Colbert program (due to colberts agent rahms rich brother), and says Chicago is a "No Trump zone" what kind of ignorant statement is that from a pathetic rich boy from Wilmette who went to the best schools and never had a day without extra cash to spend?

The only way Chicago becomes strong and great again is if rahm-toni-kimmy-the corrupt judges-and of course pizza king Tommy get voted out,or prayerfully the DOJ finally does their jobs and comes here and loads up the buses full of criminals from city hall, county building, and states attorneys offices quickly, until then nothing changes more blood on the streets, taxes skyrocket to care for illegals and lazy ghetto rats!

The last time I looked, " assault rifles" are banned from Chicago and from Cook County by ordinance. It is pretty easy to get them in the suburbs. And, if you are traveling, say to Tennessee, you can go to any gun store and even to garage sales and buy long guns even if you are not a state resident. Out of the 250 rifles confiscated by police, according to the article, I wonder how many people were actually prosecuted for felonies and sent to prison? I bet anywhere from none to very few. That is the real problem here

The Sinaloa of Brighton, Rahm’s Sanctuary base or is it Chewy Jesus?

The article was a highlight of some freeloader family’s plight from one battlefield to another.
A problem with uneducated gang thugs with guns and drug money, it’s not.
Nor is it about the issue of illegal migration, lenient sentencing, refusal to prosecute, early release, defiance of immigration law.
Mantra: Let my people go.
26th & Cal - empty. Using its space just for gun crimes and it would fill up in a weekend, should any Tough Cookie Police Superintendent happen to came along.
Typical, here again the article seeks blaming the “high power” gun and those who sell and manufacture them and not the feral populace.

This is the stuff Rahm wants you to tolerate.
Enemy combatants, urban terrorists...nah, they’re representative of an immigrant struggle.
And Democrat votes.

Be careful.
Don’t attempt to solve Rahm’s problem.
The aftermath case report is more than enough.

It’s the typical left wing anti gun nonsense intended to pander to criminals on the west and south side as well as illegals. These gangs are full of illegals and DACA and chain migration garbage. By writing these stupid stories, Rahm’s failed leadership and total incompetence is hidden and the blame is guns and societal factors. Rahm plays and controls the media in this town and everyone knows it.

What that guy is saying is that few will make reliable hits on target at that range. Just because a rifle is capable of "x" doesn't mean that your average officer with little training is going to be able to make a 600 yard shot. You have infantrymen in the military who shoot almost everyday that can't adequately engage a target at 600 yards. Area shooting is fine for a warzone but not an urban area where every round is a potential lawsuit just waiting to happen. As a taxpayer, I don't enjoy seeing my city payout money on dumb shit that could have been avoided.

I guess the answer is that CPD needs an aerial gunship or artillery on standby. Maybe some crafty bastard can figure out how to get an Apache through the 1033 program. Nothing says "Fuck Off" better than a 30mm chain gun.

Think the rifles are a good thing as long as they take out even more of the fine community members. More deadly and accurate the DOA count should o up and save the city a lot in medical costs. Those costs according to Heyjackass is well over 200,000,000 per year. A 20-30% improvement in fatal shootings could save 50-60 million next year. Maybe that could go into pension fund. Sorry, forgot who's running city. It's an election year so he use it to buy some more votes.

After practicing (snapping in) using windage and elevation it was not a problem to hit the bull 7-8 out of 10 times with 30-06 ammo.

It was definitely lethal at that range.

Not the police, only an observer: At this time in Chicago the Hispanic gang shootings have increased using AR type rifles. There's frustration within law enforcement, the mentioned gangs consist of illegals. The liberal Mayor of Chicago has made Chicago a sanctuary City for political reasons; this policy has hampered the Chicago Police Departments effectiveness. Murders this year (2017) are right around 700 and that's a disgrace. The Police in Chicago are some of the finest in the Country, however, do to the last administration, the Chicago Mayor, the liberal media; have cause the Police, to become less proactive. Less street stops, lack of prosecution by the State Attorney Office, the ACLU dictating policies, community activist (BLM), Obama's DOJ and the media fanning the flames with false narratives are causing the police to be limited in their ability to be proactive. For the first time, CCL permit holders in the Chicago area, are shooting more criminals than law enforcement in most cases. It is the opinion of many in law enforcement, the eight years of Obama, has emboldened the criminal across the county. In just one year, we are seeing less police being shot and some of the major crimes being committed less and less. I hope this trend will spread to Chicago, and the police are encouraged to be proactive once again. To the Chicago Police, there are more supporting you then not, God Bless You for your service.

Hey Speedbump. Guess why CPD don't have an
outdoor range? Attrition. Even if you wanted to
improve your skills, you're forced to inhale lead,
deprived of windage skills. Only Dept. that doesn't
have one? It's another way to kill you, make you
psycho, kill you before your time. See how things
always work out financially for the status quo?
That's how you tell they're screwing you.
EPA wants lead out of old buildings/homes; CPD
wants to boost your exposure.

No outdoor range? I could just hear the whining, the grievances, some trying to sue
How can you make me shoot in the cold, I’ll freeze. How can you make me shoot, it’s 90 degrees. Is that COD going to supply me with water so I’m hydrated. When I go on medical for heat exhaustion or heat stroke am I IOD? And I’ll sue

I have a great place to shoot outdoors, but comments like Speedbump, tells me coppers are just fuck-ups. Where I shoot, not many police and it works very well. Put a bunch of coppers in the mix and it's not going to turn out good. We have a history of fucking up a one car funeral and that's why I not giving up the location of the high power rifle range I use. When COPA stops you, ask them where they shoot.

Rham says being illegal is not a crime, well what about this:

8 U.S.C. 1325 -- Unlawful Entry, Failure To Depart, Fleeing Immigration Checkpoints, Marriage Fraud, Commercial Enterprise Fraud
Section 1325 sets forth criminal offenses relating to (1) improper entry into the United States by an alien, (2) entry into marriage for the purpose of evading immigration laws, and (3) establishing a commercial enterprise for the purpose of evading immigration laws. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) amended 8 U.S.C. § 1325 to provide that an alien apprehended while entering or attempting to enter the United States at a time or place other than as designated by immigration officers shall be subject to a civil penalty.
