Rats Abandoning Ship

  • Thirty-three state lawmakers in the 100th General Assembly will not be holding their seats in the 101st General Assembly. And that’s not even counting those who might be ousted at the ballot box in 2018.

The exodus is unlike anything Springfield insiders have ever seen.

National polling data have long shown Illinoisans at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to trust in their state government. Has that sentiment finally seeped into the Statehouse? Have the distant grumblings become an unbearable scream?

Take a look at the breakdown of who’s leaving, and why.

In the House, 25 lawmakers will not return to their seats in the 101st General Assembly. That’s a whopping 21 percent of the chamber. The situation is less severe in the Senate, where eight members are certain not to return.
There are a lot of bills coming due and there isn't any money to pay for them. We're two or three years from losing a few House seats in Washington DC, and more than a few of those leaving are collecting full pensions before the house of cards collapses.

Maybe this has something to do with it?
  • The Democratic Governors Association, in an attempt to attack Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner (R) tweeted this week about how 33,000 people left Illinois for another state over the past year, continuing years of outmigration from the Land of Lincoln.

With that tweet, the DGA is trying to make the public dumber. The DGA knows full well that Gov. Bruce Rauner doesn’t run his state. That would be House Speaker Mike Madigan (D), who has presided over the decline of a once great state during his 34 years as Speaker. By attempting to pin Illinois’ continued decline on Gov. Rauner, the DGA is either ignorant about how Illinois politics works, or they are lying. Most likely the latter, but either way it’s not good.

The DGA wants to talk about the 33,000 people who have fled Speaker Mike Madigan’s Illinois over the last year. What they won’t be touting is the fact that during the administration of Gov. Pat Quinn (D), Rauner’s predecessor, 247,410 people on net left Illinois for the likes of North Carolina, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and other states that are better stewards of taxpayer dollars. Those 247,410 people who left during Gov. Quinn’s time in office, according to IRS migration data, took $13.7 billion with them to states that that are better run and have lower taxes.
Death spiral.

Madigan is a prime example of why we need term limits in this country. This cocksucker never had a real job in his life.

The scary thing is that Illinois taxes aren't that high as compared to other states, the problem is that they were low to begin with, years ago and have done nothing but go up for years now. So, unfortunately, we will become a high tax state not just property taxes and income taxes, all taxes. And how much longer before they tax pensions? It's coming, they need money, because they won't slow the increases in spending by telling freeloaders the days of free shit are over, because that would be racist or insensitive. We're screwed.

There was a news segment as to who the worse Republican govenor in the country is and guess who that is? RAUNER The dope even admitted that Madigan runs things. What a spineless weasel he is.
I left Illinois in 97, would never come back.

So what the DGA is saying that prior to Governor Rauners swearing in, Illinois was a great, vibrant State with an economy that was growing, an infrastructure that was solid, had well funded and stable pension systems, a great educational system, that the residents trusted their politicians and was a State that people were clamouring to move into? Are they saying that the downfall of Illinois started a mere few years ago? Is that what they are trying to spoon feed us? Do they really think we are that stupid?

I posted this here over a year ago, pay attention this time people....

I was in the grand ballroom in the Springfield Illinois Hilton for a political action seminar with over 300 union firefighter from across Illinois 2 years ago and was told to our faces that tax increases in general, and (pay attention to this part people..) A NEW TAX FOR ILLINOIS ON RETIREMENT INCOME was inevitable.

That was from the mouth of REPUBLICAN Christine Radogno. You think she said that without Madigan's blessing?

A new tax on retirement (pension) income. Gee, thats us, right?

Over 300 people in the room including reporters, yet you never heard anything about it, did you? No doubt the AFFI (Associated Firefighters of Illinois), who hosted the seminar can provide a transcript as the entire thing was being recorded. But don't expect any reporters in Illinois to report it now, they didn't then after all.

They know last years tax increase won't solve their problems, more tax increases including a new tax on retirement income are inevitable and are bailing out.

Leave Illinois as soon as you can with as much as you can.

Maybe they have friends telling them about phone calls many of the elected here will be receiving soon:

It's 0500 hours 5AM, in illinois and the phone rings, you awake from a greed filled slumber "Hello, who is this" then you hear men talking and listen a little bump on your front door, next you hear helicopters overheda, you peek out the window men in flack jackets with FBI patches on them. Next you hear "open the door,as you slowly awake the door is opened by them and your in cuffs getting ready to take that bus, remember get the first seat it is the best seat and talk you realize time has run out!

this will be done in many places sporadically, the early wake up calls kiss your families goodbye the corruption, lying train will be pulling into the station and you elected criminals will be on it bet on that!On another note what elected mayor would be stupid enough to go on a national late night TV show and talk about keeping the President Trump a Trump free zone? Talk about how you violate federal immigration laws not smart not Chicago values not law!Oh yes this guy is he drunk? Like the lead in former ballet dancer!

It is not so much that the taxes here in Illinois were artificially low before, or are now higher than surrounding states' taxes. Rather, it is the fact that when you pay taxes in the surrounding states, you actually get decent governmental services. Here in Illinois, the Home of Peak Corruption, you pay through the nose, and most of that money is siphoned off into various corrupt pockets, and so the services provided are not all that great.

According to GoBanking Rates,Illinois in this booming economy has the fourth largest foreclosure rate in the country, behind New York, New Jersey Delaware, one in 1,348 homes in Illinois. No wonder the rats are fleeing Springfield.

The number of people leaving will continue to go up. There are no electable options left for this state because the cleptocrats running it are doing nothing but stealing and wasting tax dollars. The only option left is relocation to a better place. Unfortunately, most of the dumb liberal idiots who voted for these thieves in the first place also get tired of losing money and move to new places run by the fiscal conservatives. Again, they vote for the same liberal assholes whose policies and spending caused them to leave in the first place and then turn another once responsible city/county/state into another welfare shithole.

If the elected rats are jumping ship then it may mean there’s pension overhaul reform coming that could affect their holdings and that Madigan is about to check out without a pulse. No power broker and an ensuing mutiny, hopefully it’s just an FBI audit.

Shameless Democrats are blaming a stifled one term RINO Rauner.
Gotta wonder why Madigan never ran for higher state office...oh wait, I get it, you can’t put the onus solely him.
Good move.
The only answer to the Illinois financial problems will be handing over the checkbook to the proven failures of another corrupt Democrat.
It’s funny to hear JB Pritzker on the FBI recordings of Blago, who is reminding him of the open Attorney General spot.
Give it a listen.

am pretty sure that in CA if you got a pension from any organ of the State, you are supposed to file a CA income tax form & pay taxes to CA on that pension even if you moved to FL or any other state.

Not sure what CA could do to you if you lived outside the state & refused to pay....yikes, hold on, they'd probably seize/attach your monthly pensioner check till they recouped whatever amont they figured they were owed...

IL should emulate CA just to show that IL is equally "progressive"

Might be a little hard to do in Illinois where you pension is exempt from state income tax whether you live in or out of state.
It’s common for professional athletes to pay local, both city and state taxes, in city where they played their game

Not sure it was a loser. Illinois Supreme Court ruled in an almost identical case in favor of state employees regarding their retiree healthcare. After ruling in their favor they would have been forced to rule in our favor or contradict their previous ruling
