Nice Tourists Rahm
- Charges were pending Thursday night against an out-of-town couple who falsely claimed they were robbed at knifepoint of a $12,000 engagement ring while they were downtown early Thursday, police said.
The pair, both 27 and from out of town, originally told officers they took GPS directions to the lower level of 300 North Columbus Drive around 1:50 a.m., according to police. The couple said three people then approached them with a knife and took the ring, along with a $3,000 suitcase purse, a $2,000 MacBook Air laptop, a $300 suitcase and an $150 iPad Mini.
The two were in police custody Thursday evening, and charges were pending against them for filing false police reports, a police spokesman said.
We're pretty sure that Rahm bears much of the blame for making Chicago a place where people pretend to get robbed and thinking that everyone will believe them.

Actually this couple must have done their homework as it’s quite believable that they could have been robbed on lower Columbus. If you haven’t been down there lately lower Columbus, Wacker and Michigan are like what it would be similar to after an apocalypse. Hundreds of homeless, transients, addicts, small time drug dealers and people with mental disorders live down there. Many have extensive criminal records and take any opportunity to better their situation any way they can, legal or not. It is absolutely frightening down there. The residents of the bowels of this city regularly come up to the surface to shake down the tourists who obviously haven’t done their own homework on the out of control crime in this city. Check out some of the comments on TripAdvisor and you will see that many of our visitors are starting to realize that a trip to Chicago is putting your life and valuables on the line.

Should have known it was a scam the minute they said the offenders were armed with a knife. Really, a knife in Chicago? What, were the offenders preschoolers?
I bond and you're out of here. Never mind all the hours detectives had to dedicate to prove the fraud. Start charging and send them bill, make them pay for all the police service that proved they lied or go to jail, your choice.

Thanks to Tiny Dancer, Chicago's reputation has went down the toilet. It's national reputation has turned into the belief that it's a non-stop shit-show of crime, where even the 'Safe Tourist Areas' are crime-ridden every hour of every day.
Naturally that's going draw the wrong kind of tourist -- the Con Artists & Grifters. Though compared to the Democrat Machine they're rank amateurs.

And everything was brand new and properly insured. And did that say 1:50 A.M.? Like almost 2:00 o'clock in the morning? Don't know what's down there but wouldn't most tourists be in bed and asleep at 2:00 A.M., or almost?

I had a knife pulled on me by a homeless guy at the Lasalle Blue line stop earlier this year. Big Bowie type of knife too. I had to run into the Congress to get away. Called it in, and nothing....
HAHAHA This has me dying. I was in a cab in that area last night and there were cop cars posturing everywhere.
The tourists or itinerant travelers, were from Baltimore or Detroit ?
Lower Wacker, I won't even drive down there with the windows rolled up, especially after 9pm and that's in uniform w/a marked vehicle.
