Operation Santa
- Santa, accompanied by few burly elves and a police motorcade, made his rounds to several special homes on the South Side Sunday morning.
The do-gooders, all active or retired Chicago Police officers, were on a mission to bring presents and a bit of joy to the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
The annual expedition, dubbed Operation Santa, is jointly run by the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and the police department.
Always remembered.

CPMF is Phil's scam to stuff his pockets. It's all bullshit, nothing more. He creates a smoke screen each year at Christmas with Santa Claus and presents. Get smart. Don't fall for it. It only exists to enrich Phil and he takes a handsome salary from the organization. He is not a volunteer. CPMF was created by Phil, for Phil. He makes a lot of money off the backs of our honored deceased. Despicable.

Good ole Santa.
I wish that I would be visited by a few burly elves.
Now, kees me you fool!!!!
Well done and thank you
SCC, burly is fat shaming, how dare you. You ruined my festivus.
God bless you, each and every one. Thank you for keeping the memories of our fallen officers alive and always remembering the families of those who have suffered such tragic losses.
You morons who attack the CPMF have not a clue. And Phil does not line his pockets. Op San is a great event. The kids love it.
So take your anger elsewhere.

Man...I wish this job did not strip away and stomp into the ground my appreciation for the little things in life. I’m making a daily conscious effort to do so, but it sure is tough.
Bringing joy to liberal democrat voters? Should be the other way around, shouldn't it? Shouldn't the criminals, illegal aliens, and their families be bringing joy and good will to the tax payers and crime victims of the city? To the politicians, prosecutors and judges that keep them out of jail and deportation? Doesn't make any sense at all anymore.
Merry Christmas SCC!
J.J.
Great work 'Santa' ;-)
Hopefully your visit will brighten the day for these families.
(and to Santa's Elves, great job by you 'guys' too)

Lived in Chicago for 64 years and do not recall the FOP ever widely publishing or sending out a list of judges who should not be retained. I am not a police officer but I do have a huge respect for you men and woman and I know I am not alone. But crap like this needs to get out to the public and the FOP should be doing that. From an outsider, it looks like the FOP doesn't do much at all to help. I got fed up this year and got out of Chicago. Loving Florida where the local papers print all of the felony and misdemeanor arrest each day (not a lot). Good luck, you have a very tough road ahead.
12/10/2017 09:12:00 AM
Our neighborhood public safety committee is keeping list of judges to vote out next time we have a chance. Hooks was added on Friday. We will post our list before the next retention vote.
I have called the fop numerous times to complain to them about not having a list of no judges to give out to police and family members. They thought I was nuts for calling them and bothering them about this!!!
Shame on the people who think that Phil Cline is a fraud. Phil and I were police cadets back in the day. Nobody has any proof that he doesn't have coppers backs. He is entitled to a salary, he puts in countless hours and spends time trying toi get donors and donations. Shame shame on you guys, I truly hope you never have to be on the receiving end.

Would you please translate this into something comprehensible?
Since I’m the holiday cheer - check out http://wgntv.com/2017/12/10/chicago-police-dept-shares-holiday-safety-tips-in-facebook-video/amp/
God bless those who take the uncompensated time to deliver some cheer.
There’s no set rules of what is reasonable compensation for charitable work.
Donate and take a tax credit or getting reimbursed for parking and meals while making the rounds?
“...Phil's scam to stuff his pockets...”
CPMF as with many other foundations and charity organizations cost money to operate, get the message out and manage.
Accepting bloated salaries ... hardly a charitable effort.
Food pantries to pop up churches, shelters and even the national pet rescues all got on board the 501(c)(3) train to solicit and collect...tax-free, but paying themselves first.
Did you know GoFundMe and similar makes a decent 7% profit on collections? Stay away from these operations.
But donating to a bank account set up for the affected, that money goes direct to the recipients.
Kars For Kids...sham outfit, they’re not car dealers but auction off vehicles by third party and eventually KFK doles out 1% to actual charity. Same with the bogus social justice blm and the like, friends of the park, keep the river clean all collect money and pay themselves first.
Six figure salaries...not charitable.
Get out in the cold in a Santa suit, jingle a bell once in a while.
Earn something and give back, stop relying on everyone else’s labors to pay your salaries and bills.
I think the Salvation Army is the only charity operation that puts 99% of collections back into their programs.
I’m know they pay the bell ringers (haven’t seen one lately in a Santa suit) $10 hourly to stand outside in the cold.
Something isn’t right with taking charity money to pay yourself an absorbent amount.
I’m very skeptical about “giving back” these days to organizations that require compensation for the sake of keeping their 501(c)(3) afloat.
Find someone who won’t take a cut of your donations or give it directly to the persons in need.

You are 100% correct, I agree with you! He should have been doing this for FREE, not collecting a HUGE salary off the backs of the ones who gave their lives for this job!
Hope they checked for any outstanding warrants too.

great work by the nypd in catching that terrorist, thank god it wasn't Chicago with the loser merit bosses on the cpd.

Don't forget all the guys that made merit of the back of our dead I.e. Run to remember and the motorcycle run- despicable
Well, instead of giving money, how about donating food, toys, or useful items? One thing I have been donating is tool sets. One thing a homeless person needs after finding an apartment or house is a set of tools. Or, the shelter itself could use the hand tools. I know that one from personal experience; I was a volunteer at a DV shelter, man about the house on Friday nights.
Talk about scamming you should have been at the 017 Dist holiday / retirement party when the Commanderis so inepth all he could speak about was some relocated / disable officer from New York instead of celebrating his own Chicago officers. After criticizing the school Sgts.choice of garb making fun saying PETA would be outside protesting when the school Sgt. hurled a glass diner plate onto the dance floor causing another to follow ( Great merit pick). So much for the sideshow.
CPMF one of the worst. Only 80% of money collected goes out.

Charity Navigator tells the story of these advocacy organizations. Be aware who you are sending money to
"CPMF one of the worst. Only 80% of money collected goes out."
because Phil created his job complete with a hefty salary and many perks which extend to his family and friend hires.
017 Dist holiday / retirement party.. Eli relies on his political connections to make up for his lack of people skills and common sense.

What's despicable is phil making almost 200G on top of his 6 figure pension from a NON FOR PROFIT. 175K sounds like a huge profit to mw

I will not say Cline is smart, but he is cunning. He has you two dopes totally bullshitted. Just because he rolls with Santa Claus around the holidays or you worked with him back in the day, you think he is wonderful, but you are not seeing his scam because you are wearing blinders.
Cline was already going to have a bloated pension due him from the job, but looking forward he was not satisfied, so he created or finagled his way into the CPMF. He prepared for his retirement by fashioning an "after-the-job" job for himself. Good for him, but he is not working in private industry or a government job. If he were, I would say God bless him, but that is not the case. He doubles his bloated pension with the amount he makes and takes from the CPMF. Is it illegal? No. Is it unsavory? Absolutely. He makes the money off the backs of our honorable departed. He makes money, big money, from their sacrifice.
If Cline were a volunteer, or only taking a modest sum to cover expenses, he would of had my loyalty and admiration until the cows came home, but that is not the case. He is a former superintendent of police who planned the whole CPMF scheme for his own enrichment, an enrichment only possible because our first responder brothers and sisters have sacrificed their lives. Adding to his personal wealth because others made the ultimate sacrifice is about as low-down as you can get. He is akin to a circling vulture, just waiting and waiting for the opportunities to arise that will allow him to perpetuate his scam. He disgusts me.

He makes $175,364. Per this website: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=17334
If he was truly a honorable guy, he would take his 200K salary and put it back into the fund for DEAD OFFICERS. Shameful.

100 percent agree with this guy. It’s about time someone calls out theses lawyer scams. God knows Chicago politicians and Chicago media won’t do it. They have their owns scams.
"I think the Salvation Army is the only charity operation that puts 99% of collections back into their programs.
I’m know they pay the bell ringers (haven’t seen one lately in a Santa suit) $10 hourly to stand outside in the cold."
99%? Thats laughable. So how can they afford to give employees between $70,000 and $120,000 a year with health insurance, paid vacations and tuition reimbursement?
You can't run the CPMF or the 100 Club with volunteers alone.
But you go ahead and donate 50-60 hours a week running these charities and we'll see how long you last Mr. Thinker.
Here's a charity that buys airline tickets for service personal to be with their families around the holidays. A worthwhile charity in my opinion. Oh yeah, 95% of money donated goes for tickets.
http://lbeh.org
let's see how much money goes into kids/tuition widows expense and other things asshole. Then check the money you donated .BFDC
When did gordon leave the CPMF? He always had our back. Now cline’s crony Frank Gross is on the payroll. Cline and his yes man reunited.
Crazy Kim from Mass Trans failed psyche test twice but now she’s going to get promoted to Sgt!

About 4 years ago I called the CPMF and believe it or not, Phil answered the phone.
My original purpose for calling was to get his email address and write him about my take on the fact that he gets a 6 figure salary, about $156,000 ( $13,000/mo) at the time.
Instead since I had him on the phone I told him live and in color that while I have no problem with him making as much as he can, and I have no problem with the CPMF paying its executive director a 6 figure salary....
But that in this particular case, because hes the former Supe.. With the largest pension of any retiree that a small stipend would be more appropriate... Say $2000/mo.
I opined further, that if he wanted a bigger salary then he should work somewhere else, because this should be a labor of love for him.
He didnt agree with me and I told him that my donations would slow down as a result of this conversation.
Then last February I was at Police luncheon and the wife of an officer who'd sustained a traumatic brain injury after being shot in the head many years ago, spoke.
She told all in attendance how wonderful the CPMF has been to her and her family over the last 20 or so years since her husband was shot at an HBT incident.
Anyway I guess Phil does get a fat salary, but I guess he earns it. And I guess the CPMF does a great job helping families who are dealing with these tragic situations.
And Im back donating again from time to time
80% isn't that bad for a charity. People complaining should get together and start their own charity that donates 100%. See how long you last doing that.
Thank you Michael Sweig. Ignore the haters.

Interesting that you give your money to Wounded Warriors. They have one of the biggest scams going and were caught keeping most of the donations.
I do have money taken out of my check for the CPMF. It goes to help children of fallen officers so they receive an incredible education. Have you met any of the children? Despite the awful tragedy that they lived through, they are amazing young people and the education we all help to provide, shows and I'm proud of that and proud of them. It also helps them to know that all the officers on this department love and support them in the absence of their missing parent.
Have you had a fellow officer get sick with cancer or any other serious illness? I know for a fact, the foundation will cut a check to help that officer.
No organization is perfect. I don't like that JG is no longer working there but I still donate, for the reasons I listed above.
If we owe anything to our fallen, it's to take care of their children.
Charity Navigator says the CPMF doesn’t pass the smell test. Too bad, because it is a worthwhile cause. I stopped giving years ago because it was never a highly graded charity. Wonder who Phil will appoint to manage his charity when he finally does retire.

After all is said and done, $175364 is just not right.
I have been a volunteer for the CPMF over the last several years and in this capacity I have meet many of the deceased Officers family members. I have yet to hear one family member of a deceased Officer criticize the Foundation or Cline. I personally know several family members because I was either a friend or colleague of a deceased Officer. Because I have heard or read people on this blog criticize Cline and/or the Foundation, I have ask them many questions about regarding the benefits they have received. Again, I have never ever heard one complaint. Some people are misinformed regarding when the Foundation was conceived. The Foundation was formed several years before Cline became it's Executive Director. Prior to Cline becoming it's Executive Director the Foundation had financial difficulties. The finances has been greatly turned around since Cline came on board. I know Phil and I know he works his ass off for he Foundation. After saying this I also think that his salary is excessive. Phil is a big guy, no pun intended, but he can handle the criticism but to criticize the Foundation is out of line. There is a lady who works at the Foundation by the name of Dawn. Dawn is another person who works constantly for the Foundation. Almost every time I have volunteer for the Foundation she is there working beside the volunteers. If anyone thinks that the Foundation is a fraud I would suggest that you talk with some of the deceased Officers families members. Anyone can criticize Cline all they want but don't criticize the Foundation. If anyone doesn't believe me I would strongly suggest that you volunteer for an charity event that raises monies for the Foundation. If you do, you will probably work with a family member of a deceased Officer. At that time you can ask questions yourself regarding the works of the Foundation.
When Santa makes the CPMF home visits, the entire group accompanying him is composed of volunteers, except for one. Cline is on the clock. Cline is being paid to be there.
Do you not find the aforementioned to be morally questionable? Or somewhat troubling? Or, at least, a bit distasteful?
While being paid, Cline is front and center, grinning and glad handing and accepting all the accolades and appreciation, but he is a former superintendent of police, not just someone hired to run the charity. He uses our honored dead to make money for himself. Some of us find it morally reprehensible.
Lieut J H from 16 you got a lot of nerve to badmouth Eli. Didn't he get you out of several jams you stepped in?
We are happy with Eli who treats us as human beings not like you the times you went off on us. hes got more people skills in his pinkie than you do in your entire lifetime.
Cline gets an expense account at the charity that he can use for meals?
This shit writes itself.
I would ask him about it, but he might take the fifth.(some will know what I'm talking about)
I support families of fallen officers and firefighters. If CPMF pays educational expenses for children of officers, does The Cook County 100 Club also pay those expenses? Just trying to understand the process, since I fully support the objective of being there for the families.
Noone is criticizing the good that the CPMF does.....everyone who volunteers does so voluntarily hence free of charge. Phil is getting rich off of it. Why cant he take a modest salary say 30grand or reimbursement for out of pocket expenses ?
CPMF was compared to the organizations in the other big cities and came in last. Most were at 90% or above except for here.
If Phil Cline was sincere, he would donate $125,000 to the CPMF and have his name added to a plaque at the CPD Memorial Park.
To have your donation memorialized for posterity, donors must contribute a minimum of $100,000. Since only 80% of the donation actually goes to the families of our fallen heroes, Cline can contribute the additional $25,000 because it will go right back to his outrageous salary and the administration of the fund.

Great idea! If Cline was an honorable man, he would do exactly as you suggest, but therein lies the problem.

When injured or killed in the one of duty, financially the family is well taken care of. So much so that a widow of one at one point refused any more benefit money and preferred it be donated elsewhere.
A better use would be to help the children of a police officer who has passed not in the line of duty. Their financial loss is far greater and out pension stops when the children are 18, just as they are beginning college.
donations should cease immediately and not restart until phil is gone
phil is only worried about himself and lt mattie
everyone else is just a means to an end and that end is a huge personal bank account
