Follow This Money

Not shocking, but disturbing if true:
  • Would the media care to investigate this tasty morsel? [...] here's a low hanging banana for ya:

Applicants who fail any portion of the Power Test can - FOR A FEE - register for a PE class at one of a few of the local City Colleges.

There, they (ostensibly) receive additional physical conditioning from gym instructors/personal trainers until they (in theory) "pass" the power test under the watchful eye of City College employees. Now here's where it gets good...

These applicants get a certificate saying they passed the Power Test to bring back to the Personnel Division and get right back where they left off in the hiring process line WITHOUT HAVING TO PASS THE POWER TEST AT THE ACADEMY.

Another slickster money grab hatched by crooked ass scum for a crooked ass job in the crookedest city in the USA.
This is from commentator IFIYGD, who has posted some other connected stories before. Sounds exactly like something Rahm would sanction.

I remember in the not to distant past if your hands weren’t completely interlocked then didnt count that sit up and you were done. My suggestion is all events should be video recorded, an instructor shows a group what is expected for a sit-up sit and reach etc and each canidate is video recorded, you don’t pass sorry

This is semi-true. My son received his power test "invite" and it said that in lieu of taking the power test they can go to one of like 3 testing facilities where they pay a fee ($35) and are put through the test. If they pass they get a card good for one year. One of the testing centers is Triton College. The suburban departments have been doing this for years. The card allows you to take multiple suburban entrance tests without having to keep taking power tests for each one. The advantage for the CPD to use this system is that they don't have to run tests of hundreds of candidates at a time. The advantage for the candidate is that it's not "one and done" meaning if you miss the run by 5 sec at Triton you can take it again (for $35) until you pass. If you miss the run by 5 sec with CPD you're out (theoretically). Actually you just have to wait until the ask you to come back and try again. This may delay next test for months. They do the same type of certification for Fire candidates taking suburban tests. Theirs is more of a timed obstacle course.

And the City Colleges are on the "Legit"? On more than one occasion, City Colleges have turned out Useless and Worthless degrees. Just last month that was exposed at Daley City of Chicago College, where a Trades certificate was being issued, that was not recognized by that particular Trade Union. In addition, the I.G. for City Colleges is a Political Flunky, who routinely circumvents the State's Attorney by Diverting Corruption to avoid embarrassing the City Colleges. City College employees are caught stealing time or physical property, and their I.G. just lets them resign. No Prosecution or Restitution. How can City Colleges legitimately claim to be fair and honest in passing these recruits? If this program really exists, it simply serves to further diminish the quality and credibility of the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Police Academy. Perhaps the time has come to De-Certify the Chicago Police Academy and turn training over to the State. Baby "G"

Hey SCC, I imagine it won’t be long before this ‘model of police reform for the nation’ is lauded here and used to beat the drum of ‘reform’ here by our 50 thieves and rahmmie. Though in this editorial there are obvious giveaways to the Seattle pols bias and state of mind…

https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/editorials/a-laudable-victory-toward-police-reform/

“Seattle’s progress proves that reforms and training to reduce police use of force are effective and don’t compromise public safety.”

“The positive outcome sends a strong message to a Trump administration that appears less inclined to confront troubled police departments.”

“That prompted a Department of Justice investigation in 2011, back when that agency had its priorities straight.”

“The city and police officers’ union must also agree to a contract that incorporates the reforms…”

“The ruling validates the work of advocacy groups, particularly the American Civil Liberties Union, that rightly called for a civil-rights investigation into the department’s treatment of minorities and misuse of force…”

There’s more, but you get the idea.. FOP should be watching; as they are here, Seattle mayor(armed with the suspect success of this consent decree) is trying to work it into contract negotiations…

More nausea: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/crime/seattle-police-found-in-full-and-effective-compliance-with-court-ordered-reforms/

I don't know why any of you are shocked at this. In many police agencies around the country now, a prospective applicant can already go to any number of coilleges and take (and pass) their equivalency of the POWER test and receive a card, good for one year, that many agencies accept in lieu of the applicant actually having to take the POWER test under the watchful eye of actual police agency personnel.
Many of you can recall that no less than Masters Masters Masters went out and obtained his LE Illinois certification at an OUTSIDE agency when the path was greased for him to become a 'sworn' chief of staff with our agency, rather than to take those courses required for Illinois certification while under the watchful eyes of CPD Academy personnel, fully endorsed by Weis and RayRay.

The skeptic in me says it’s certainly a program geared towards Getting the Right Applicants for the Right Time™️.

Did some entrepreneuring hacks of CPD past just introduce this novel idea into the CCC catalogue or is this a limited time offering?
Thinking one of those pop up study group outfits doing some after hours stuff, on City property.
And if the program is widely unknown, then its by invitation, only based on geography.
It’s not like cheating and guaranteed passing grades are a no-no in corrupt Chicago.
Nobody EVER fails Chicago’s City Colleges and PE Training...something I never knew existed.

I remember long ago a place called Discovery Center (still operating), they had 1-4 week continual and introduction adult learning seminars on every topic from soup to nuts comprised of independent experts from all over. Actually was pretty good at the time and cheap.

Who knows what’s among the physically unfit, another Jugghead & Wheezay waiting to happen.

This was started by the guy that owns i o Solutions. Many Suburban departments and fire departments do it. It allows the person take the test as many times as they want as long as they pay the testing company. Many villages towns in Fire Protection District like it because then they don't have to run an actual test or run space and the candidate pays for the actual test.

But if you want to peel the onion a little more, it's not the money that's bad, it's the love of money that causes problems.

Like guns. By itself a gun is neither good nor bad. The goodness or badness depends on whose hand is holding it.

Same with money. Put a stack of bills on a table in an empty room and it's only a stack of paper. Put Rahm in the same room and all hell breaks loose.

This is total BS! When I was in the academy they have this thing called "welcome to the gym". Where I don't know for how many hours, the instructors had us doing hundred push ups and sit ups. Ran until we almost throw up. I thought the academy was nothing compare to military training. Now, we have police officers in the academy who've spent about 4 in the street then became instructors. We were fortunate enough to have J Morowski, a very pro military guy, as our instructor until the CPD put him and his buddy back on the street because they were too "tough". Those guys should've been promoted, not demoted.

If your son did not pass the psychological and was given a not fit for duty based on not passing he can call his background investigator and request a re-evaluation from another psychiatrist but it has to be who the city schedules him with. I believe he has to also write them a letter that he wishes to take the psychological over vs doing the whole testing over from scratch. Good luck. We've been getting POWER Test cards for years. I don't know about all this remedial training after failing then getting back in the line stuff. The cards are much simpler. My first dept I took the written exam in a HS cafeteria, they scored it immediately, then everyone that passed undressed and took the POWER test in the school. When I started applying for other depts. the POWER test cards were picking up. You can go to Triton, this police/fire training place in Glenview called NIPSTA or Joliet Junior College. You make an appointment to test. Depending on location there could be tens of people with you down to 3 ppl altogether. I passed and got a photo ID card with an expiration date on it. When you apply at departments you submit a copy of your card in the beginning, just like your FOID or DL. This just gets your application in. You still have to pass a mandatory POWER test like the Friday before the academy starts or you're terminated. The cards can be good for a year or whatever but the departments actually decided how long ago you had to have received your card i.e. within 6 months, sorta like your recruits having to pass the test every 45 days. This way is much faster, easier and cheaper on the recruit and on the city. If that's what they're doing...welcome to the new millennium.

If you're willing to drive you can fail that test and probably have one scheduled within a week, if you're lucky maybe as fast as that same week. Triton and NIPSTA do big tests every so often which used to cause recruits to miss tests because they might be booked already and you couldn't get a card from them before the application deadline. Joliet runs it out of a small, active campus gym with several slots a week. It's really easy to get in there and much closer if you live out south.

It is not a city college thing either. The testing locations are legit and the standards are the same across the board. There is no scam, no envelope being handed under the table, no bosses kid being taken care of, no back door to being hired and no Russia collusion. All this does is helps candidates become "pre-approved", like a car loan, so they can just hand a certificate to CPD once notified to appear for the power test. That's it! Now go and worry about something worth worrying about.

About screening people....

South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy is reported to have said this.

"Trey Gowdy just said a few things about the military in response to a stupid question from a CNN reporter about the ban of transgenders. He nails it!

Nobody has a "right" to serve in the Military. Nobody. What makes people think the Military is an equal opportunity employer? Very far from it.

The Military uses prejudice regularly and consistently to deny citizens from joining for being too old or too young, too fat or too skinny, too tall or too short. Citizens are denied for having flat feet, or for missing or additional fingers. Poor eyesight will disqualify you, as well as bad teeth. Malnourished? Drug addiction? Bad back? Criminal history? Low IQ? Anxiety? Phobias? Hearing damage? Six arms? Hear voices in your head? Self-identify as a Unicorn? Need a special access ramp for your wheelchair? Can't run the required course in the required time? Can't do the required number of pushups? Not really a "morning person" and refuse to get out of bed before noon? All can be reasons for denial.

The Military has one job. War. Anything else is a distraction and a liability. Did someone just scream "That isn't Fair"? War is VERY unfair, there are no exceptions made for being special or challenged or socially wonderful. YOU change yourself to meet Military standards.. Not the other way around. I say again: You don't change the Military... you must change yourself. The Military doesn't need to accommodate anyone with special issues. The Military needs to Win Wars.

If any of your personal issues are a liability that detract from readiness or lethality... Thank you for applying and good luck in future endeavors. Who's next in line? "
