Prostitution Ended?
So if the numbers fall for a particular arrest category, does that mean that the crime has been eradicated?
Does CPD even have a Vice Unit any more? Because we have a hard time imagining that all the hookers suddenly stopped plying their trade. Or is Backpage.com all paid up with the appropriate connected people? Because 018 with zero prostitution arrests is kind of hard to believe.

On the topic of charts... The 009 commander has his briefings daily in the sdsc room filled with admin sarge, lts , captain etc.. what do they do? Look at spread sheets and presentations. Wow. Social media officer must account for minus 50 shootings. The future of policing will be through excel!!!!!
The probably do have a prostitution unit but like many of the units on the new CPD it turned into a better “spot” and now they sit inside and do nothing but write a few reports.

I live in 018, and one of my favorite things is to be solicited by prostitutes of varying quality if I go to an upscale place and have a drink at the bar. But zero arrests is downright shameful and shows a lack of effort and poor fishing techniques.
Tact LT in 018 couldn’t fill his tact and gang teams, so he disbanded the Vice team and backfilled them onto a gang team. It was too bad, they were productive officers who did their job, and now he probably doesn’t get a thing from them after being “redeployed.”
It's the same reason we don't communicate through letter writing. Technology has changed. As long as both sides are consenting and people are not being exploited, trafficked, and/or legal age then it is what it is.
Remember broken window theory. I mean hey if it's not on our streets; drugs, solicitaion, and other bs who is it really effecting. Now the next story det. hijacked. That's where our focus as a society let alone the police should be.
007 has a lot of hard working proactive officers. A lot of them don't know what reasonable suspicion or probable cause is. But they are the real police. Go ahead and ask them.

When I got on the job 25 years ago, I remember Officers arresting prostitutes in 014, on Armitage Ave. and Operation Angel on North Ave. just to get a court date in the old Whore Court!

These undesirable results are what reasonably support both the current unlawful status of this age old business AND the practical alterations of law proposed by some, from time to time.
Believe it or not, business cares not about morality; only as morality affects business does business concern itself with morality.
Business also does not, inherently, care about legality; ditto the above concerning the affects of legality.
All natural needs are the basis of business; individual wants are not needs, though business flourishes where, with natural needs thoroughly met, wants produce more business, and, if nothing else, more business is what business wants.
The essential key here is actual, sincere, mutual consent, though, business values this as one, the most conducive to business, possible way of doing what business does.....namely.....provide goods and services to those who need/want said goods and services.
For the time being, we are fortunate to have as our nation's President, a fellow who knows what truly matters to EVERYONE.

So true. Back in the day those pickpockets would fight to the death. They always tried to run you over and threw a 1st District pickpocket copper into a plate glass window. Avenues of escape are everywhere in 001. Those great arrests were made up of patient surveillances, good cover, and phenomenal takedowns.

For the officers that never worked in vice but want to comment on it, 1st when I worked on a district tact or gang team we handled everything in the district and didn't need outside help because we were the police. we did our own narcotic stings and prostitution missions including decoys. Everything thing that happens in a district now they ask for outside help, where are your tact and gang officers, they do nothing while the outside units clean up their mess. 2nd prostitution was an easy upgrade to felony until a couple years ago, there are groups that argued that prostitutes were victims so the states attorney's office took away the felony upgrade, then vice was told to not charge prostitutes with the state charge so the only charge was an mcc so why should officers arrest a prostitute and spend a couple of hours in the station when they can write an ANOV in 5 minutes, blame the states attorney's office and the officers in the districts, not the vice unit and for those of you that don't know, vice is very short staffed and there is (1) prostitution team with (5) officers that covers the entire city and the vice unit handles a lot of jobs other than prostitution, but they do handle prostitution but issue ANOV'S which you can't track when pulling up the district arrest. Over 500 ANOV'S are issued per year regarding prostitution.

Back in the day, on the wesside (the best side) we used to ask them if they had flat dick or stick pussy.
They would always answer honestly.
Plenty of street hoes in 001, 014, 018, and you can even see them occasionally working Lincoln ave, very late at night in 020.
But only if you are seriously looking to arrest them. Many have given up the street trade, trafficking their wares on Craigslist or Backpage or Tinder, cutting out the middlemen (pimps) in the process.
Back in my old tact days in South Chicago, we also would occasionally run prostitution missions along Exchange ave.
Many times we would commandeer a hot car we would recover, and use it as our 'undercover vehicle of the day,' and we would make controlled buys, pick up prostitutes who would solicit for dates, hitting all the hot spots and accomplish crime control (at least for that day) with tools necessary for proactive enforcement of the laws. We would then inform the dispatcher of the stolen vehicle recovery and order up a tow from the station parking lot as we clocked out from another day of real policing, with a full humper (often two) with numerous arrests. An era long gone these days... :-(
