- State lawmakers heard an earful from both sides at a Monday hearing on legalizing recreational use of marijuana.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle told lawmakers she supports legalization because, right now, law enforcement focuses a disproportionate amount of energy on pot smokers in black and brown communities.
“Rarely do we see white college students, or young professionals, suburban high school students or their prosperous parents, arrested or detained for the use or possession of marijuana,” Preckwinkle said at a House-Senate public health hearing on legalizing marijuana in Illinois.
Everything is racial to Prickwrinkle, indeed to most democrats - it's their defining characteristic. That being said, this will be an interesting social experiment should recreational marijuana be legalized. The disruption to the cartel distribution networks, gang hierarchies and street-corner "territories" is going to be amusing. That's a big income stream suddenly cut off and a lot of inner city entrepreneurs without pocket money. They can't all become safe passage workers at $10-an-hour.

But a young black or brown man can get arrested and his life is fucked. I have a uncle who had a minor weed case 30 years ago and he has to work at a damn food processing plant for 9 bucks a hour. The legal system is not fair when it comes to drugs and it is time we admit that. You can be white and get a felony DUI and fucking go home. Do not get it twisted, that is what Toni is talking about. As much as I dislike the increased open air consumption of stink weed, has it ever occurred to Bullwinkle that the disparity in arrests occurs because minority youths peddling hash and openly consuming it in high crime neighborhoods which are being patrolled by police officers? Could there be a correlation? To Phony and Kimesha it is racism. To neutral observers, it is stupidity on the part of those arrested.
I will add that the grass available today is more potent than anything that was being smoked at Haight Asbury in the Summer of Love. It is not harmless fun.

Did any of you watch the NBC Forum of Democratic candidates for Governor on Tuesday night? Six people are running. The ones you see commercials from - JB Pritzker, Kennedy, and Biss, and then three others Tio Hardiman, some other Downstate guy, Bob Daiber, and a physician named Robert Marshall.
I did not catch the whole "debate", but the one thing that was different than all the typical Democratic "we need to raise taxes" rhetoric was said by the physician, Marshall. His idea is to split the state into 3 states - Chicago, the collar Counties, and downstate. Each one would have its own Governor and 2 US Senators.
In effect you would have Chicago - the State of Confusion (a sanctuary state of course), Downstate (whatever they would name it, and then the suburbs. When you think about that, that could be a good thing.
All the others touted how good they would be for Illinois and how they would "fix it". Yeah, it's already "fixed".
No one mentioned cutting spending and waste, just raising taxes to cover bloated pensions that cannot be sustained. Break the state into three - sounds like a good answer to me. Not voting for the same old crowd anymore.
And a lot of aldermen & revrunds not getting kickbacks.... interesting indeed.

- in school

- while walking into the police station to pick up their child

Having worked all over the city, it is only in “black and brown” communities where residents boldly walk around with weed blunts behind their ear, sitting in the park smoking it, and 3 out of 5 cars stopped for traffic on the south/west side on a weekend have a strong odor of cannabis emitting from them.
Perhaps it’s not that enforcement is unfair, it may just be the communities that AREN’T “black or brown” choose to use a bit more discretion in their consumption.

This argument has been used by other Dems in other states as they lobbied for legalization of pot. The argument is used to cover up the fact that all the politician really wants is the tax revenue they think will result from taxing and regulating pot. The reality in the states where pot is legal and is dispensed from stores that have a state license is that there is still a lot of "illegal" pot around, being grown or brought in from other places. When potheads know they can walk around smoking joints in public because it is legal, they will buy from the cheapest source. Law enforcement in those states now spends more than the tax revenue from legalization trying to shut down the flow of illegal pot.
More excuses for black and brown people. Let them buy and smoke weed where they want, when they want and leave them alone. Does she really think that this will help them in the long run? Should have got it ex sponged.2nd in most black and brown areas the smell of weed coming from cars is the norm.And since those areas have a disregard for law and order there are more police to see and enforce. yeah its the teachers and the police s fault that we are held down. I have not been in patrol for a long time but i remember not making an arrest only for pot. If we searched someone and found some weed, we would either give it back to them, or if they were an ass we would drop it and step on it. Never felt it was worth the time to make an arrest just for weed. I cant wait till retirement! I see a doobie in my future!

The reports coming out of Western states that have legalized weed for recreational use have been interesting. It has not stopped the illegal sales of marijuana, but has actually increased it . People are buying the stuff and sending it across state lines or selling weed to people who are not eligible ( under 18 years of age). The use among the teens has more then doubled and the legal weed has increased the homeless population and vehicle accidents in the states. But, the only thing the political class ( with the exception of the racist Preckwinkle) think about is money, money, money. The kids are already saying that the adults have been lying to them all of these years when they said weed was dangerous and now it will be legal. If the adults lied about weed, did they lie about the other drugs as well? It is a dangerous slope that the progressives go down on. Decriminalize it and force people into drug counseling, but don't legalize any more mood altering substances.

Ha! Where'd you go to college? The suburban kids were drinking and smoking the city kids under tables in college. Here I am from the southside of the city and thought I knew about weed. Ummm no. I have a family member who had a drug problem in the 80s...drugs! But he worked with mostly white guys and would not drink more than two beers when he went out with them because they got super drunk every time.
Now I don't buy, and have told several of "my people", the white kids don't ride around in cars full of weed smoke. But as far as actually using drugs don't fool yourself. I call bull shit to this story of yours. I know many white people who did time for possession and delivery. They were able to put their lives together eventually and be successful. Any fool knows how many neighborhoods are ruined by the chokehold of drugs and violence, which go hand in hand. Unfortunately those happen to be minority neighborhoods in this town. They’re not doubling up manpower and sending mission teams to the slow districts to try to catch some white guy selling coke in a bar bathroom or smoking a joint walking down an alley. You’re just plain silly dude. We see the low crime districts who pay the most taxes get the least police service. As far as your unfair practices I also call bullshit. For some reason I don’t see garbage all over my streets, open drug spots in plain view, grown men hanging out drinking on the streets all day every day and people running around smoking reefer like cigarettes on the streets where I live. Before you start throwing around racial injustice you better look long and hard. All the education and money in the world can’t solve those problems. That will only work if it comes from within.

Even if it was an ANOV if you can verify the name with ICLEAR and IR number.

#1) In the mid 90'S, arrested a M/2/20's had 100 each of rocks, rocks and dime bags of weed. He openly admitted after Miranda that he had never did drugs and was a business man. Heard his business plan- Buy at retail the resell fordouble to the soccer moms on the Far western suburbs. 30% of the customers on that spot were white! So when it comes to Racial shit regarding Rock blow or weed. Whitey just hides using it better.
#2) Why is weed illegal anyway? Been doing some research on the subject after see'n Bullwinkle on TV. Medical Marijuana just put the foot in the door for the recreational use of weed. Cant help but draw a parallel to the Lottery being the panacea for the States financial woes.
#3) I gonna explore the possibility of getting a license to sell Marijuana. If it become recreational dispensaries/Weed Stores will pop up all over if not I forsee a lawsuit against the state for some Constitutional reasons! Like liquor stores on the west-side! Imagine a Weed Shop with the traffic like an Arab store on Chicago Ave or Lake/Pulaski!
Ask any heroin addict what was the first illegal drug they used and it is nearly always marijuana. Not all weed smokers get relaxed. Contrary to popular believe, weed does make some violent. I never understood why people can't just stick to alcohol???

How and why do any of you live in Cook County? Suburban LE here in McHenry County. I can’t tell you how many weed arrests we make out here. Probably 85 to 90 percent are affluent whites. Preckwinkle is a moron. Using her logic, maybe murder should be legalized in Cook County because the police are arresting mostly blacks and Hispanics. You all have my sympathy.

While I'm in favor of legalizing weed, people have listed several of the negative outcomes. One they didn't mention are the bums, who flood into the states and cities that have legalized weed.
One issue with "weed", particularly here in Chicago, is its use as street currency. If anyone thinks that legalizing MJ will put an end to Chicago street crime, they would be sorely mistaken. I predict MORE violence, not less, with the legalization of Marijuana. At least in the city. The people who push the legalization narrative know nothing about the street economy.
Also, I saw a report some months back about a huge uptick in the number of single car crashes in Colorado after legalization. California had an MJ related fatal not six days into the new lay. #justsaying

have to jump in on this one. Yes it is racial because one arrest can fuck up your life. I have seen white men do coke in the office, their suppliers are arrested but not them. White high school and college students use to cruise the south and west sides for drugs and get escorts back to the expressway from the police. Get pissed if you want but it happened. But a young black or brown man can get arrested and his life is fucked. I have a uncle who had a minor weed case 30 years ago and he has to work at a damn food processing plant for 9 bucks a hour. The legal system is not fair when it comes to drugs and it is time we admit that. You can be white and get a felony DUI and fucking go home. Do not get it twisted, that is what Toni is talking about. If we both do dirt, we both pay the price. Period.

I suspect that the person impaired by the ingestion of alcoholic beverages is likely the most dangerous vehicle operator on the road, if I had to choose between that and the weed toker.
