Are You Kidding Us?

This appeared in the Daily Bulletin today???

The rumor currently out of HQ is that the entire Gang Unit, North, Central and South are about to be disbanded the same way they disbanded SOS after that scandal, with everyone being given one chance to bid and then everyone goes to 003, 005 and 006 to await bid openings elsewhere.

And if our sources are correct, with all the hiring going on, the bid openings are about to shrink to "non-existent" for the rest of the year, same as it was about eight or nine years ago (check our archives for numerous posts about zero openings for months on end).

Everyone in uniform has been a way of life for over a decade in many major cities, with C.D. limited to detectives. The concept of Civilian Dress for District personnel in tactical units goes back to the 1960's, when policing and Chicago were both quite different. And let's be honest; "White Boy Tac" is a uniform! The baseball cap, and exposed vest and firearm works to what purpose? Everyone knows that the Tac Team is the Po-Po. In a Democracy Covert Police operations MUST have close supervision and Accountability, which has not been the case in Chicago. What I find interesting in this latest scandal is the involvement of a Sergeant of Police. Unless you go back to the scandals of the early 70's, documented in a book called, "Beneath The Badge", which involved Austin and the old East Chicago Avenue District, where Lieutenants and a Commander, Mark Tanasorus went to prison, no supervisor has gone down with his subordinates. The issue has consistently been rogue coppers without supervision, often in civilian attire, CD. That is not to say that detectives are above reproach, in the 80's, Joel Fivelson exposed Major Accident detectives shaking down citizens at that unit. Tactical personnel may end up in uniform City-Wide; with running shoes. Baby "G"

This NOJO is ill-timed, but it was intended to be released yesterday regardless of the incident. Nearly all areas, both for Gangs and Saturation, have had similar announcements in the last several months.

Your rumor is indeed correct, unfortunately. There's no question GEU is going to be disbanded after federal indictments are publically announced. It will more than likely be for the 3rd period, after HQ and downtown finalize how to disperse members assigned to the unit. More than likely, there will be a citywide superbid with limited districts similar to MSF.

It's a shame many other hardworking officers will be affected because of this. However, as a certain boss put it yesterday, the entire unit is now compromised. It's all over with. Especially in the age of accountability. The timing coudn't be worse either with the creation of additional civilian oversight. You think any of them care about the unit? Saturation alone can easily fill the void for a city wide response unit.

Lol, this is an obvious Gang Enforcement officer. Blind to the facts in front of him, upset about the possibility of wearing a uniform, and a gay comment to inflate his masculinity.

And it's not just you, either. I called my friend yesterday who is on Gangs South and he was saying everyone was confident nothing would happen and the Superintendant understands how important they are. It's really sad

You’re the same motha fuckers that haven’t written a fucking ticket and talk everyone you can out of paper job so you can be lazy and comment how you never went anywhere. If you wanna do nothing and get a pay check, god bless, i won’t talk badly but do me a favor and stop talking shit about guys who are doing police work the right way and actually work. One fucking team in a unit went rogue and now all of GEU are thieves and should be bounced. Why? Leave the people that dont get in trouble alone or you’ll end up exactly where you were when TRF and MSF disbanded and countless other units when good cops got fucked over the actions of a few and instead of continuing to work they said fuck it. Shit disband everything. Let’s just stick to patrol and see how that works. And stop fucking comparing us to LA or whatever other town. You know damn well it’s like comparing apples to oranges. Just because it works there doesn’t mean it would here or anywhere else for that matter. You like LA fucking move and work there they’re hiring and so are other countless agencies.

Sorry guy but the only ones who staged and enabled this corruption are the ones who became the beast and stole. I don't care what kind of numbers were pushed and by who, they took the initiative and STOLE all on their own and placing the blame elsewhere is trying to legitimize what they've done. And if you don't like the "numbers they're pushing" well there's 22 districts with 3 watches each you could very simply go to.

Spoken like a true shithead!

You're blaming Nagode and Ryan for OTHER OFFICERS stealing? Are you serious? Ryan and Nagode put guns to those officers heads and ordered them to steal?

Ryan and Nagode want activity from activity based units. Is that too much to ask? Or are you one of those officers that expects to drive around for 8 hours and do nothing? I know it's not the day and age for pro-active policing, but that's what to expect if you're in Gangs, Sat, Gun, Tact teams. If you don't like it, come back to the watch. Then you take the extra step of stupid and attempt to make the correlation of "Oh, the bosses want numbers, so I'm just going to steal this cash!"

Blaming anyone else for that these officers (allegedly) did is just fucking stupid. "set the stage and enabled"... How about we look at what you're inventorying off the dope arrests you make, because you gotta be smoking that shit to say dumb stuff like this!

which involved Austin and the old East Chicago Avenue District, where Lieutenants and a Commander, Mark Tanasorus went to prison

Thanasouras was the Commander of 15.

Also that year, Thanasouras and 18 of his men were indicted in a $275,000 tavern shakedown scheme on the West Side.

For years, Thanasouras had led a ring of vice detectives in what came to be known as a "$100-a-month Club," referring to the standard fee they assessed bar owners to keep out of their hair.

Thanasouras pleaded guilty to extortion, testified against others involved in the scheme and served 18 months. After his release, Thanasouras was gunned down gangland-style on a North Side street. The murder was never solved.

Patrol needs bodies, and not the ones with the extra P. No offense to them, but I'm not an FTO and sure as hell don't want to be.

Disbanding GEU and placing them on a beat car would be great.

Why do we need gang and sat teams? Even Tac teams for that matter. Put everyone in districts on a watch, increasing the number of p.o.’s on the street. If anything, put up a few 06 cars on the watch.

What is it with the some commenters on here always talking about everyone should be in uniform because of something like this. Do you actually think these guys being in uniform would have prevented this? Remember SOS? They were in uniform most of the time. Los Angeles
Rampart division same thing mostly in uniform. And saying detectives should be in uniform too! Well then I guess most Federal agents should be in uniform too, they conduct investigations like detectives. Your obviously obsessed with seeing everyone in uniforms. Like one poster said, it's ok if you like guys in uniform:)

Explain why over 60 brand new unmarks were sent to get the new pdts and pdt mounts today out of 55th and wentworth today jagmo?
2/02/2018 06:16:00 PM

Number one it's 52nd and Wentworth. The new cars are for Commanders, XO's and inspectors. That's your 60. Unmarked are going to be repainted white and be rolled out in the new color pattern.

I was a Sergeant in SOS and the problem there was just 1 It. Who was so bigheadex and wanted to be the best let Finnegan and his posse run loose while their SGTS. We're told by It. JAKE if they didn't like it they could leave. But as soon as the shit hit the fan, his pussy ass ran and retired. SOS did good work for a lot of years.

Jake wasn't the only boss who allowed Finnegan and company to run amok. Nothing ever happened to the two commanders that thieving crew worked under, Tobias or Gulliford. They got off easy too.

And now Gulliford is a big boss at OEMC, double dipping his way toward another pension.

Many years ago was assigned to 002 out of the academy. Was amazed to see that there was only one black on the Tac. Team. A sergeant.
Back then a team was 1 lt. 3 Sgt s. And 24 officers. There were 53 projects in Taylor and Stateway alone. Now....no projects and about 48 on a team. What a joke.

You forgot about the 3 gang teams huh?

which involved Austin and the old East Chicago Avenue District, where Lieutenants and a Commander, Mark Tanasorus went to prison

Think Mark T also spent time as commander in 018

Baby "G"

No supervisor has gone down in a long time?
Have you forgotten Watts?

Oh NOICE! Should be some great fing deals on very highly modified jeep wranglers after a few pay periods. I especially like the ones done up in custom matte finish colors and super bright fing lights you know.

****

Hahahahaha that’s hilarious. With their oversized tires with stars in the middle, an extra external fuel can and fie extinguisher.

City needs Tact teams so they can get away from the contractual issues as far as adjusting hours whenever needed

I feel sorry for the real workers who will be screwed and their sgts. Hope you land somewhere good.
