Well fuck it, I managed to stay off the watch for over a decade. I’ll go push a beat car on days for a couple years and live a normal life .
The lieutenant? Really? Commanders ain’t shit on this job anymore. Commanders are just tyrants reigning over serfs. The lowest level decision maker is a Deputy Chief. The lieutenants will find out the unit is dissolved about an hour before the P.O.s. You have no idea what a pointless and meaningless job being a lieutenant is. Go troll someplace else.

I remember when we closed, didn't know it until the period before we closed.
I don't know if there is any truth to this post,but the this is exactly what happened to sos. I remember like it was yesterday, the blog called it a month earlier, the bosses blew smoke up our ass at roll call, until one day we showed up for work and were told not to worry about getting dressed, just head to roll call for your new assignments. didn't give blog any credit back then, but I've been reading it ever sense.

Just disband all plain clothes units. Have everybody in uniform, on patrol. Bring back the old school walking the beat, (foot, no car) Learn to spin your baton like in the old days.
These units like most are a waste and just a way to work short days. Lack of accountability. If we are so short with manpower, they better serve in a patrol car on a watch
SCC -- Some insight into GEU's disbanding. The order will be released next week, likely around Feb 16 (atleast 14 days before next period, per union contract). There will be a superbid available to the unit's assigned officers. No word on available districts

I don’t think there are many hard chargers around anymore. That word really doesn’t apply. The world “survivalist” is better. The city and department made it that way with all the monitoring and constantly changing orders being levied upon the police.

How would any GEU react today if they refeived confirmation the entire unit would disband next period? You may say "continue doing their job with the utmost integrity" but reality is they would shut down. No more motivating factor to produce.

In 2011 Then Commanders Kevin Ryan (TRU) and Leo Schmitz (GEU) were called down to McCarthys office and told that Rahm wanted to put 1000 more cops on the street and that he was disbanding GEU. Leo reminded him that they were 2 years into a 5 year federal grant so Ryan was told that TRU must go back to the districts. He put up NO fight whatsoever. His only concern was what would happen to HIM. He came into roll call that night and basically told everyone that "nothing lasts forever" and "good luck, your new assignments will be posted on the board effective Sunday" (this was Friday). He said "please have your lockers cleared out by Sunday" and walked out after saying "if I can help out anyone, anytime don't hesitate to call me" and then didn't give out his number. Most coppers were on the order to go south and some were stuck there literally for years. Same will happen to GEU. Just watch.

I know that everybody gets the shaft for the actions of a few. I use to be in those units that everyone mentioned. Hopefully you can get into a good dist. and sit back and realize that its not the end of the world and at least you still have a job. Even if you did nothing wrong other coppers and bosses wont trust you.

No need they sent about 20 or more PPO’s there in the last 6-12 months. Slid them in at 17 months just before the probation ends and they are subject to the contract. Never mind about the guy with 10 plus years who can’t transfer in.
Rahm is coming up short on his big money Hiring Plan, hence the disbanding of a few non-essential, antiquated and vicious 20th Century Units.

We need units to alleviate the strain on Patrol. We definitely need better bosses in these units who are smart and can handle situations. Everyone knows a boss that they would want on their scene or in a bad situation. Some units do great work but others are over saturated with hacks who just want to hide out. Disbanding all units just to create other ones is dumb. Just get rid of the trouble , and do nothings.
Its funny to read all the comments from the hayers who could never make to a Unit because they were probably a dawg their whole career. on a side note, work is work regardless where the fuck its at. the 1st and 16th still there so who gives a fuck if your city wide or district wide. Radke, aka the long term sponser of Jerry should be in jail with finnegan. Radke was an arrogant POS who swept everything Jerry ever did. When Jerry got in too much trouble, certain bosses said he needed to be dumped out of the unit and the CRs need to be looked into. Radke said no way, not his boy Jerry so he had him quietly moved to the airport. Soon after the enemy’s of Jerry were gone from SOS Jerry was brought right back in to steal again. Radke single handedly ruined SOS with his little boy toy Jerry.
Gangs is not a unit. They are just run in patrol at the deputy chiefs office just like the saturation teams. The only thing that would happen is it would go back to the old way of ang teams send back to the district level and work out of the tac Office. They will again become the 68 and 69 teams. Most guys who are on teams in gangs are on the teams from the district they came from anyways. Not a big deal. Gang teams are in patrol, not a unit.

This is true except it wasn’t Radke(he was already retired)it was Starks, Georgas, Risley and Guillford. Then a few weeks later Risley returned to tell us we were disbanded, I thought he was going to cry because he knew that we were lied to a few weeks prior by him

---There has been a recent influx of 5 yr wonders in Gangs but most of the officers have 15+years, well in Area South anyways, can't speak for the other Areas.
One thing is for certain, the city loses a large group of officers to fuck over on their weekends for every little protest and parade, not bad timing really, I will just bounce from call to call when the JVD riots start!

Not a chance! Many of us, the smart ones are assigned to 001, 012 and 018. So you won't see us in 003, but if you absolutely need to find us, maybe you can catch us during lunch, at one of our many fine dining establishments.
School unit has been disbanded twice the second time we were sent to districts and kept the spot losing and benefit of the unit / union coverage dumped back into patrol and made to multi-task on holidays, summer vacations and weekends. Might as well go back to a watch probably get treated better. It’s about time no training and no arrestees makes what’s left of unit pretty lame. Don’t believe the data it lies just like the people who provide it.

I was in SOS, came in there in 2005, from a Southside district. There were a lot of good people there, some great Sgt too. I got stuck on a team with a lazy ass Sgt. All he talked about is where him and his pal Sgt. JK.were going to drink and what time they were ducking. I was glad to get dumped but I landed on my feet both me and my brother in law who also was there.

They don’t care and flaunt it in front of you. Rub it in. If he wanted her transferred and he’s heavy he could have followed the contract and made her one of the original four. Or he could have told her wait for the next transfer order.

I am so fucking tired of people bitching while sitting on their pensioned asses. I get "stay fetal" while on the job, we all want you to come home safe. But if you stay fetal when it comes to your own life (neighborhood, school, state & local government, Union) then you are part of the problem.

Wow, great pep talk, man!!! I’ll remember that when I’m listing my assets at the Dirksen building or awaiting criminal charges at 26th street for proactive policing. How about I come and critique you at your job? How about I use you like a fucking doormat and then ask you “why don’t you perform better?” You’re damn right we aren’t doing shit. Anonymous movements of under 10000 cops (assuming full participation) will go where? If we tell our stories of injustice, it is easily linkable to cases and then we what, lie to a federal judge? Or we admit to posting information and then have to give 100% access to all of our email, social media sites, cell phones? Will you be on the COPA board, police board when we’re facing termination for detailing abuses in the courts or with CRs? Will you take care of my family when I get suspended, fired, blasted on the news?
With all due respect, you’re an idiot. You want to shame us into being aggressive cops but you won’t be there as we burn at the stake, let alone going into harms way. You’re lucky the whole job hasn’t quit. Guys are retiring at 20 vs 30 much more frequently and under 10 years a nice amount are quitting. If I had under 10 I’d like to think I’d tell you to shove the pension up or ass and bounce myself. About 6 years and I say fuck this city. I’ll be one less asshole you have to worry about. I’ll go live a nice quiet, peaceful life away from needy loudmouths offering faux praise, liberals and criminals. You can, however, keep preaching.

What other unit gets guns and dope like gangs? The city disbands them, its truly up for grabs. This might be the last unit in the city that does any police work.
