- Chicago police have secured and reopened Water Tower Place after a gun was fired there earlier Friday evening.
Police say a dispute between two groups of people ended with someone discharging a gun.
No one was was reportedly struck and no injuries have been reported.
Weren't those two "street ambassadors" supposed to be starting yesterday? Oh wait, that was only on State Street. North Michigan Avenue doesn't rate protection.

Besides, who knows what he's saying anyway? You can't get blood from a stone. They can only add 15 more minutes to check off now. What, they'll deny time off? The way it is only 1 or 2 PO's could technically be off on any day already. If you're sick, there isn't anything they can do to you about a day off. We can sit at home and nurse ourselves back to health. The raps can continue until tomorrow, we'll clear the jobs one at a time. Say what you all want. But a team of well trained and state certified security officers could have handled this situation quickly and professionally. I am proficient with both a semi-auto pistol and a semi-auto AR-15. I am also a devoted practitioner of CrossFit and I have studied judo. So the point is I am not a loser. When I attended a two day seminar law enforcement/private security partnership seminar in which CPD Academy instructors and internal affairs staff participated. I learned security is before the fact and law enforcement is after the fact and both have distinct roles and responsibilities. These guys got it and respected this fact. The CPD and private sector security facilitators were awesome. You can laugh at security officers if you wish but we face unique complexities and dangers that oftentimes we must react to before CPD arrives. As a security officer working at a well known retailer I detained and ultimately pressed charges against a police officer who was shoplifting. The situation could have been handled out of the courts but he elected to try and push me and so it was escalated with me taking him to the ground. At trial he was found guilty of retail theft and battery. The responding officers which included a sergeant and a lieutenant tried to convince me to drop the charges but once he put his hands on me he put his fate in the hands of the court. No doubt this action could be attributed to his remark that he was the real police and I was a wannabe. I am glad the responding officers were courteous, professional and realized the arrested was first a jerk and then a police officer and now has an I.R number. I would not have had the courage to press charges if I had not attended the CPD/Private Security relationship building seminar which included a presentation by a CPD internal affairs sergeant who stated boldly that even officers must obey the law and be professional on and off duty. I was appreciative that he addressed me by both my rank and last name. With his professionalism I retain my faith in the CPD.

What a shame. I’m retired ISP who worked in the Chicago area 30 years ago and now live across the river from St Louis. Always loved visiting Chicago after I moved south. My wife and young daughter love visiting downtown Chicago. Spring break is in a couple of weeks and sadly I won’t even consider A trip to Chicago anymore. Unfortunately with the current climate, which just might be changing, I understand and support what you all must do to protect yourselves and your families. St Louis PD in a similar situation. The last time that I visited Water Tower Place, pre-9/11, someone screamed at the top of their lungs and threw hundreds of small neon colored fliers/papers from a high floor, which rained down the center atrium.
They read "If this were a bomb, you'd be dead already, Israel out of Palestine". It never made the news, but it was quite a mess of paper. Haven't been back since.

Say what you all want. But a team of well trained and state certified security officers could have handled this situation quickly and professionally. I am proficient with both a semi-auto pistol and a semi-auto AR-15. I am also a devoted practitioner of CrossFit and I have studied judo. So the point is I am not a loser. When I attended a two day seminar law enforcement/private security partnership seminar in which CPD Academy instructors and internal affairs staff participated. I learned security is before the fact and law enforcement is after the fact and both have distinct roles and responsibilities. These guys got it and respected this fact. The CPD and private sector security facilitators were awesome. You can laugh at security officers if you wish but we face unique complexities and dangers that oftentimes we must react to before CPD arrives. As a security officer working at a well known retailer I detained and ultimately pressed charges against a police officer who was shoplifting. The situation could have been handled out of the courts but he elected to try and push me and so it was escalated with me taking him to the ground. At trial he was found guilty of retail theft and battery. The responding officers which included a sergeant and a lieutenant tried to convince me to drop the charges but once he put his hands on me he put his fate in the hands of the court. No doubt this action could be attributed to his remark that he was the real police and I was a wannabe. I am glad the responding officers were courteous, professional and realized the arrested was first a jerk and then a police officer and now has an I.R number. I would not have had the courage to press charges if I had not attended the CPD/Private Security relationship building seminar which included a presentation by a CPD internal affairs sergeant who stated boldly that even officers must obey the law and be professional on and off duty. I was appreciative that he addressed me by both my rank and last name. With his professionalism I retain my faith in the CPD.
Just because we're cops does not mean we can deprive stores or individuals of their merchandise or property. Having worked security prior to getting on the job, and on multiple occasions had to tell on duty coppers leave our property for whatever reason, they knew the drill and complied. Remember cops are not above the law. I always tell security officers they can deny entry or remove anyone they wish from the premises, you have authority over the police at the establishment in which you were hired to protect. Know your laws. BTW, never refuse to press charges, cop or not, thieves need to go to jail.

And then you get home, only to be just in time to put your kids to bed. Plan to spend time with them on the weekend? Want to take them to swim lessons? A movie? Maybe, if you're lucky. There is a very inexpensive solution to this problem Chicago police radios cannot transmit inside of the water tower cannot receive or transmit any type of radio message . This simple repeater needs to be installed inside of the building so that police radios can transmit inside of the building it is a very simple fix. The only problem is who will pay for this repeater for waste money on tennis courts in the ghetto what do so worried about who will pay for the $25,000 repeater that needs to be installed inside of the water tower pathetic.

What a shame. I’m retired ISP who worked in the Chicago area 30 years ago and now live across the river from St Louis. Always loved visiting Chicago after I moved south. My wife and young daughter love visiting downtown Chicago. Spring break is in a couple of weeks and sadly I won’t even consider A trip to Chicago anymore. Unfortunately with the current climate, which just might be changing, I understand and support what you all must do to protect yourselves and your families. St Louis PD in a similar situation. I hope the current climate wasn’t the intent of your political leaders but the by product of misguided principles. If this was their intent, it’s treasonous. He met justice that day, I was one of the responding units that day and I must say that after reviewing the surveillance footage, you truly could have incapacitated the man, but your proficiency in judo led to you not having to unleash your proficiency in semi-automatic pistol. Not only are you highly trained in judo, but when the Lt. showed up, you employed your black belt level verbal judo as well. I think it would be scary to see you with a semi-automatic AR-15. It definitely is a relief to know that we have bosses and IAD learning from you, I think that without you, this department would be headed down a very dark road....well, a darker one I guess. I’d really like to train with you, I’m thinking of doing a 2-day seminar using edged weapons and defenses, where security officers can become highly proficient in Japanese Samauri sword and Chinese throwing stars. lodding was a merit lt in the last class before education was required. he then made commander, then ads, which was his rank when he left the job to retire. there is no education required for exempt beyond high school. howard is heavily connected. he came otj late, but everything went fine. made exempt asap so he could get the gold braid pension asap. it worked. he left with 25 years otj and a big pension. he also has been in two big money government jobs since leaving cpd. remember, work hard. it is all legit.
Channel 9 has totally sold out to Rahm . The main culprit is mike Lowe talking about how the crime is down. EJ said the CPD is now a model for the country.
