Now they can hand them over to these rehabilitation companies who will proclaim them "born again" and is now an upstanding citizen. And what's in it for these private companies? The more thugs they rehabilitate the more money they make. And what's in it for our politicians? A thank you from the companies, for giving them business in the form of a campaign contribution. Some of these companies have failed to keep proper records, don't know whether the offenders completed community service, have treated victim's poorly. So now we hire private companies because government has failed.

A pair of Parkway police officers, neither in uniform, noticed they Saturn had parked in a handicapped parking space. The officers issued a parking ticket.
Returning to their vehicle, Kyla McCarthy explained she suffered from ankle surgeries following an automobile accident. She had a valid handicapped ID badge on her personal vehicle, but the Saturn she had been driving at the time belonged to her mother. The New Jersey officers didn't accept the explanation, so she immediately called her father from a cell phone.
Garry McCarthy drove up in the police SUV, blocking the unmarked New Jersey police car. McCarthy described one of the New Jersey officer's response to him as a "profanity-laced tirade at the top of his lungs." The New Jersey officers accused McCarthy of the same, adding that they smelled alcohol on his breath. As a crowd watched, McCarthy was arrested and placed in handcuffs.

Cook County, which contains the city of Chicago, operates one of the largest single-site jails in the United States. Cook County has made progress in reducing reliance on jail incarceration, with the population of the Cook County Jail declining 6.4% overall between April 2016 and April 2017. Notably, the proportion of low-risk, nonviolent defendants held in jail pretrial has also declined from 45% to 30% since the county began implementing pretrial reform efforts.
To build on past efforts, Cook County was awarded $1.85 million from the Safety and Justice Challenge in 2017 to implement strategies that address the main drivers of the local jail population in the area, including unfair and ineffective practices that take a particularly heavy toll on people of color, low-income communities, and people with mental health and substance abuse issues.
To continue reducing the jail population safely, the county plans to implement new strategies aimed at addressing system inefficiencies, providing non-jail options for lower-risk offenders, and rebuilding community trust in the justice system. These strategies will include the rollout of an Automated Court Reminder system to reduce failure to appear charges, a comprehensive bail review and reform strategy, implementing deflection and diversion options for law enforcement to help provide alternatives for non-violent offenders, and fostering extensive community engagement around ongoing criminal justice reform in Cook County.

I heard the same thing of 115 and only class this year. Class will not be at the academy. Don’t know if this part is true but summer mobile is going to be double the size this year so I assume many of these Sgt will be going to summer mobile along with recruits that will be workin downtown details.

Well how about we think about rest of city not part of community, will they feel safer and trust police more with known criminals back on street. Does anyone really believe that this will a positive impact on level of crimes in city. Sorry guess I answered own question it will have a very positive impact on crimes going up. Does anyone in CPD command structure have even a little common sense. Guess not with programs like this even being considered. Lots of merit in this idea.
Why not just state the obvious. Justice reform is really a other democratic sanctuary program for criminals. City says it's OK to rob, pillage and steal just don't do it to any connected individuals. Would be interesting to see what restorative justice considers a punishable crime. Bet there is two answered and depends on color of individuals committing said crime.

Who do you think that commanders will send to this meeting? Anyone that is available and will not embarrass the commander. When was the last time any exempt ever listen to a blue shirt? After the meeting, a new program will start without proper training, letting officers figure out how to use another useless program. The big problem with this department is a horrible lack of training. Too bad we do not have a exempt leader in charge of training???

So true even why does the city treasurer and city clerk and of course eddie burke and rahm have fully police spec vehicles? How many do they have? Working at the garage and you check the emergency equipment you could light up the entire city with all the bells and whistles! then we have the mayor who swears he is "green" an environmentalist, who is shuffled around along with his entire family in extremely fuel thirsty Suv's and a complete fleet of these vehicles! If your so "green" why not show the people how much you care and get rid of these and be driven in a pruis 53MPG? Or better yet mayor you say the city is "safe" along with the 50 and the clerk and aldermen,why don't you show your faces and take public transit,ride the bus,ride the el like the "regular people?"
Simple answer is your "scared really scared" and it is cowardly that you want the public to take this shit show but yet you ride in luxury with armed valets,with police radios to call for immediate help!
