005 District Openings
There are about to be a boatload of vacancies that will have to be filled:
- ...an officer claiming to have a CPA background tells fellow coppers that he'll amend their prior three years tax returns for $500 a year, promising them bigger/additional refunds then they had already received. Sure as shit, coppers start getting 10, 12… even $15,000 checks from Uncle Sam. Supposedly one of the fifth district commanders secretaries netted a total of +/- $47K for her three years' amended returns.
This copper/CPA abruptly and quietly resigned within the last week, all but disappearing. Didn't show up for his exit interview, phone number out of service, etc.
Yesterday and/or today, Federal agents accompanied the IRS, internal affairs and the city's law department into the building. [T]here are a TON of clinched assholes and some of the likely suspects are openly panicking and having frequent powwows in the shadows. [...] NORTH OF 100 COPPERS INCLUDING SEVERAL IN SUPERVISORY CAPACITIES - POSSIBLY SOME EXEMPT - ARE INVOLVED. Some of these coppers also turned family and friends onto the scam, charging them more than the $500 for the PO/CPA and pocketing the difference. These people may be part of the +/- 100 people involved, but the vast majority are coppers.
Mayor Midget is supposedly aware and has insisted on facilitating complete cooperation with federal agents. Licking his chops at being the reformer of police corruption just in time for the election, no doubt.
One-hundred coppers - all up on IRS tax charges - oh wait:
- ....the "list" of involved officers earlier today and it is now closer to TWO HUNDRED people. They mentioned that since it involves so many coppers the [Department is] scrambling to brainstorm a way to minimize the damage. They're kicking around the idea of a blanket CR and dinging everyone with X amount of days. Only thing wrong with that idea is this scandal falls way outside the realm of department discipline - I don't believe the IRS would be cool with just 15 day suspensions across the board.
Great. Just great.

I have an ex girlfriend who did this same thing-- she was the person getting the bloated tax return-- make a long story short- she squealed and got 1 year in federal prison in Michigan. Yeah I still see her-- I had a lot of catching up to do given I did not see her for a year 😘. If I can recall correctly, she can not open a bank account for like 5 years and gets audited for 10 years. She was facing something like 12 years, but you know how plea deals go
Comrad SSC, theft is theft, first who,talks,walks.,,are they that stupid. Ammended returns prepared by same guy always get flagged. Common sense 101, greed is greed.
Stupid-Assed M/Fers...
"If it sounds too good, it usually IS!"
And some exempts too?
EL-OH-EL!
THIS... Is gonna be good...
..... that is all i can think of at this moment just wow.
Well, I guess this is good news for that recruit class that’s being held up as it’s unlikely they’re going to get fired as the city may need the warm bodies. The bad news is they’re going to 005.
Greed + stupidity = criminal charges.
The greed of some coppers is absolutely amazing. Just like anything else in life. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.
Tsk tsk, those guys should know better... I am glad I never have to worry about getting jammed up like that. I actually don't mind getting taxed by Uncle Sam or Uncle Rahm. I actually encourage tax increases because I know the money goes to a great cause. If Uncle Rahm is happy, then my bosses are happy, then I am happy, and that is what I am about these days.

Rham it's time to create a second version of COPA but for checking police taxes-- TAx Office of Poleece Accountability. Never be too accountable-- Rhammie
I’d be more than happy to go work OT over there when all of those stupid greedy Mofos get stripped. 5th district VRI. Sign me up
Mayor Midget is supposedly aware and has insisted on facilitating complete cooperation with federal agents. Licking his chops at being the reformer of police corruption just in time for the election, no doubt.
Are you really trying to put this on the mayor? If these officers pulled this crap, it’s on them, not the mayor
I'm just stunned! I hope this isn't as bad as it sounds right now.
There have always been guys who "specialize" in doing police officer taxes. There is no special training needed to do your taxes. I've been doing mine on turbo tax since '98 and a village idiot could do them. The only thing we can deduct is our uniform related items and job related training and then again that only goes if you have enough deductions otherwise you take the standard deduction. I see people deducting mileage and parking fees,tolls and thats not deductible. We're not independent contractors or self employed individuals to have laundry lists of deductions.
I am a CPA and I file my tax return with my title being police officer. I like to pretend that I have no knowledge of how returns work.
Obviously, the officers had to review and sign the amended returns. Depending on how far the CPA/PO took them into the gray zone will determine the amount of liability or guilt. From reading the post, the dollar amount had to be omitting w-2 wages just not bumping dry cleaning expenses and weapon purchases. I wish the affected officers good luck but they are in for a ride with the IRS. Felony tax evasion is doing something deterimental to the image of the department.
If true these officers should have known better. They let their own greed get the better of them. They are victims and they should be treated as such if they truly that stupid. If they knew they were scamming than they are not Police Officers and should be prosecuted.
I hope they are victims! It's sad more officers caught up in the switches!
Three years of amended returns pockets you $47k on top of whatever you already received in returns from those three years? I wonder if people are really that soft that they think they can lawfully receive 60k-70k in returns for three years? Wtf
IF it sounds too good to be true then it prob is.
If its too good to be true.......
Anyone who believed this was legal is too stupid to be a sworn officer.
I'm sure all the money has been spent. Good luck repaying all the fines, fees and back money that is for government give always. This is truly unbelievable.........
The young and brightest are on their way! I can't wait to retire and I can't wait to get far from here.
The men and women of 005 who were approached, assessed the situation and declined to be involved should be made meritorious supervisors. Their decision to not be involved proves they have some working brain cells, unlike the others whom went along with this nonsense and many others otj previously made meritorious supervisor with no proof of working brain cells.
In every crime there are victims and there are offenders. That's what they thought when I went to the academy. I'm just wondering where all the officers fall?
The Repo Man finna be working OT snatching up all those new Bimmers, Caddys and Lexuses.
2 years.
As long they reported all their income, it's just a mistake. No jail, but a boatload of interest and penalties.
Usually the police are telling the citizens to be careful of tax scams. WOW!
This reminds me about 19 years ago when an officer in 007 got other officers social security numbers that were listed on the seniority roster posted on the wall. He used that info to take out loans. That's why they don't use your SS# on as many forms as they did 20 years ago.
Mayor Midget is supposedly aware and has insisted on facilitating complete cooperation with federal agents. Licking his chops at being the reformer of police corruption just in time for the election, no doubt.
And why shoulding he be? If they were CPS, USPO, Streets and Sans guys you would be saying throw the book at them
If exempts are involved this story will disappear within 2 weeks.
200 people: can you say REPAY all the money.
It's a fraud, even though you were not aware.
Uncle Sam give you BIG enema to get that cash
out yo ass
How could anyone be so stupid to buy into this scheme?
Lol. Do your own taxes, plug in the numbers in the boxes. Be realistic in your itemized deductions. If this is true, these fools deserve whatever comes their way.
White shirts and the connected will get a pass. Sorry blue shirts you have to take the fall again
The POs will just claim stupidity, and with the hiring standards the way they are it would be hard to argue.
I guess Sessions did come to Chicago.
Now I may not be the brightest bulb in the bunch, but shit hahaha $500 per year to turn a 1000% or more...
Every once and a while you have to see that when it's too g $$d to be true smh 47K hahaha
Damn! Greedy motherfuckers. Really? Come on SCC, April fools day was Sunday
There is a guy from 010 who’s going to the federal penitentiary for defrauding the irs. SS
Didn’t the new 018 th/dist. boy wonder politically connected Commander just get made out of that district. Must have another shortage of qualified candidates. Or he didn’t know nothing???
It is possible they thought (or were convinced that the deductions were legal) and are really victims. In that case just repayment and fines and penalties no way jail except for the tax prepare $500 guy. remember Innocent until proven guilty.
Didn't some female cop, whose husband and son were high ranking gang members pull this same crap 25 years ago???
Didn't a lot of POs have to take emergency loans from the credit union to pay back the IRS? Victor Crown just did this same scam to Streets & Sans a few years ago.

Unless they prove conspiracy. Then it’s federal time. And you know some copper is gonna lie to the IRS Special Agent...
Lets see how far this SKITA rolls down hill, meaning the Blue shirts take the hit. Not the White.....How STOOOOOOPID and GREEEEEEDY are these clowns....Pretty much so it seems....
This guy was a total arrogant asshole, glad he's gone, and I hope he goes to jail. I wouldn't trust him with my half of the lunch bill, let alone doing my taxes. A lot of really good people got scammed by him, people who I wouldn't expect to be so gullible.....oh, I know......GREED. It's an awful thing. Try to stay away from it.
Thought you for a minute your were talking about MAIU, all Supervisors are out except for the Lt. Can anyone guess who that might be?
Years back in the old 015.....someone found a "great tax guy" too. You just had to meet him at the rest stop on the expressway. He got coppers $1000's back for the current year and amended the past few years for $1000's more. Heard they all got audited too. How can people fall for this crap ????? T
Five reasons not to cheat on your taxes
https://www.hrblock.com/tax-center/newsroom/irs/tax-fraud/reasons-not-to-cheat-on-taxes/
4: The penalty can be higher in cases of tax fraud.
When taxpayers step over the line to intentionally filing an incorrect tax return, the penalty increases to 75 percent of the amount of taxes they underpaid. The fraud penalty is saved for the most egregious of cases, such as getting caught for intentionally not reporting a substantial amount of income. This is a civil penalty, not a criminal penalty for fraud (see #3). In 2016, the IRS assessed this penalty 3,219 times on individual taxpayers.
#3: The penalty can be jail time.
Saved for the most egregious of tax-evasion violations, Section 7201 of the Internal Revenue Code states that any person who willfully attempts to evade or defeat any tax is guilty of a felony and can face up to five years of imprisonment. Fortunately, the IRS doesn’t use this stick much. In fact, in 2016, the IRS investigated only 3,395 suspected tax cheats and convicted only 2,672 taxpayers. And many of these convictions started because of other crimes, such as drug offenses. But, when the IRS pursues criminal tax evasion, the IRS means business; almost 80 percent of all convicted tax evaders serve jail time.
Felony tax evasion is doing something deterimental to the image of the department.
Hasn't hurt the politicians yet.
White shirts and the connected will get a pass. Sorry blue shirts you have to take the fall again,
With the IRS? Geez, you need to get audited just for making a statement like that.
If they were dumb enough to think that such unusual amended returns wont get flagged, then they deserve to work over at COPA with all the other morons. If it sounds too good to be true then it is.
As For Myself and MR. T , we have been getting out taxes done by a Licensed Tax Accountant for a long time. We sit down at his office and present our documents and receipts at his office. We would never give our taxes to anyone who says " hey I can amend your taxes and get you more money". Always go to a professional Tax Accountant who is established and is Licensed. Don't be a fool and fall for a scam.

OT - Public comments are still being sought by the Attorney General's Office about what the consent decree for CPD should include:
http://chicagopoliceconsentdecree.org/input/
Every copper, active or retired, should read the site and leave a commment. Goes for all concerned civilians too.
Guidelines:
Blue Shirts = $10,000 fine, two years in jail
White shirts = Warning Letter on file not to do this again
That is all
The guy comes in, makes big promises, delivers, then disappears, leaving the Police Department with egg on its face. Does no one else smell a rat?
Appears the CPD took a round in the War On Police.
Find that guy!

Can I just call a mulligan on this?
I don’t blame them. If I was breathing the paint/chemical fumes from the Ford plant all day, my decision making skills would diminish too.
I’m not sure who’s dumber. Is it the chick who tried to cash the million dollar check at the credit union or these mouth breathers as a collective group?
Ralph K also had similiar angst when called into the IRS offices...

Sounds like the Comic book scam. Here's your Comic Books (In the middle of Summer) You owe me $300 and a "Steak Sandwich" go donate them and I guarantee you an Extra $1,200 on next year's Tax Return! "Oh yeah by the way I'm NOT signing your Tax Returns, your on your own when IRS comes knocking on your door" IRS Problems is A PROBLEM THAT WON'T GO AWAY!

It’s sll good because doesn’t Al Sharpton owe the government upwards of a million dollars for tax evasion?
I need to buy some stock in Proctor and Gamble because Peptol Bismol is gonna be flying off the shelves.
Good news. Maybe you can share a jail cell with Mike “The Situation” from Jersey Shore. He’ll have time on you because he’s getting sentenced in late April.
I can't rap my brain around this?
The IRS is a federal agency?
Yet IAD is cooperating with a federal agency.
I seem to remember that RAHM said Chicago is a sanctuary city and would not enforce FEDERAL LAWS with city tax payer money???
Oh.. on the taxes send an amended tax return(FORM 1040 x) with all moneys owed plus interest before the interview you DUMBASSES.... I know you spent the cash on DISNEY LAND.
And hire a T.A.X LAWYER
I remember back 10 yrs or so, evverybody and their grandmother were in the oBama Mortgage ReFi bidness.
This IRS scam is of the same sort of abuse of taking something not entitled to thinking nobody checks and questions the sudden change in deductions.
All things said, the fraud committed by illiegal alien tax refunds especially in Shithole Illinois is astounding and probably makes this guy CPD work look like small potatoes...unless the scope of his enterprise is spread that far throughout the community.
Either someone wasn’t satisfied with the crumbs and ratted out the accountant, or the IRS is on the ball in the new Administration.
Now if they can just get around to finally auditing Dorothy Brown and a few AlderThieves before 2019.
Look out Kim is licking her lips and COPA can't wait. Better hire 200 new bodies your going to need to replace some very soon. Lots of merit opportunity coming as well. Aldermen have their lists ready. What's the going rate for a one step promoting nbthese days?
Could this be what's gets Feds looking at CPD? Hope so way overdue.
Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. That is all.
I'm Rich, Beeaaoochhhh!
this sounds like the scam RUTH was doing at north and throop years ago.....
stupid people falling for pyramid schemes
I think either there are some really stupid officers out there that knowingly engaged in criminal activity or..... they were duped by a guy who was, claimed to be, a CPA who ripped the officers off while putting the officers in a boat load of financial problems as the simple solution would be repayment of the monies as well as a fine. Unless the officers purposely and knowingly committed fraud, I don't see where there is an issue. I smell democ"RAT" bullshit in the air trying to make the 9 1/2 digit midget look better....lord knows there is no way to make the thieving bastard look good!
Had to make up for all the Free lunches you lost last year. Don't know if Club Fed has pizzas.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Actually mileage is deductible if you are going from a primary job to a secondary job.
Ex.- a guy working midnights, goes from working midnites to court. That mileage is deductible. So a go getter, tact guy or a detective can get some pretty good mileage over the course of a year to deduct.
These greedy fools went overboard. And all amended returns were from the same preparer, that's a red flag to the IRS.
I recall a guy I worked with who put down that he donated $10k cash to the church in addition to all his other deductions. He had no receipt/cancelled check to support it. IRS gigged him.
While one could claim that they reported their income correctly, their deductions are another thing. They will face hefty fines, interest on those fines, they may not face criminal charges but most certainly will face department disciplinary.
My question in all this is:
Does Call Back have enough chairs?
4/06/2018 02:10:00 AM
1 word Greed!
Exit interview? What is that? No one interviewed me when I left.
The government always gets theirs. Always.
Shout out to the 5 District. If anyone has a new Tacoma of Ford Rapter. I will take over your payments. Large GMC or F150's included.
How dumb can you be the repo man is going to be busy in the district parking lot for sure the credit union will be selling a lot of the autos cheap security on the CTA is going to be up for years
Fraud is fraud, Police are not exempt from the law... How dumb do you have to be to get involved in this in the first place? Dumb enough to believe in the easter bunny is not dumb enough..Greed has bitten them in the ass and it is going to leave a scar.
Sounds real stupid...cops filling out schedule c's without 1099's...like that is going to work.
That was an FTO in 007 who stole his recruit's information and opened charge accounts in their names. He sold Big screen televisions to several high ranking members of the department at reduced rates.
3 years tax returns at 500 each is $1500 x 100 suckers= $150,000 in cash. Was that reported on the CPA's income or pocketed?
Reminds me of the funeral home scandal from the early 90's. So many coppers involved they gave everyone 15 and said get back to work.
You want to be in the Front of the Bus or in the Back of the Bus?
Well if a cpa tells me that I’m due money because of a loophole who am I to argue or kno better? I’m not a cpa. I don’t know the tax laws. I don’t know the deductions which is why I have someone else do my taxes. Taxes for a police officer has numerous deductions and things that you can get money for. If my cps tells me it’s legit and a way to get money then so be it. If the cpa ends up bogus then it’s on him, it’s his name on the return submitting it. The only thing that can happen to the person filing is to pay back money or fines. Relax all...
Can you say "Wage garnishment" for the next ten years.
Oops.
Wow.
I won’t be assisting in 005.
Instead, I’ll be working on my own fucking taxes, investments, property, and various and sundry family business in between slow rolling to stupid calls generated by Rahm’s kids and illegal aliens. I refuse to violate traffic laws, along with tax law......
Thanks to my fabulous seniority, they’ll need to reverse 96% of the department to get my ass into 005.
🤡🤣😂🤡🤣😂🤡🤣😂
Make me whole with subsidized insurance and I’ll “be the change” by leaving.
Until then, I stick it up your ass every fucking second I’m on the clock.
In fact, my ear still hurts. Kind of like someone stuck something in it.
I think I need to go on the medical.......
No one is going to jail, the IRS is going to audit all of the ones involved and make them repay the government along with fines and penalties.
When city hall has decided the line to take I look forward to reading about this in the Sun Times and the Tribune
I spent my tax return on a sword used by one of the elves on the set of Lord of the Rings. Gonna use my April duty availability check to by a display case for it. I'm glad I don't work in 005 cuz I would have bought many more dumb things that I don't need and I don't think the IRS excepts vintage lunch boxes as a form of payment.
$500/year to file amended returns for the past 3 years for 200 people is $300,000 right there, not including friends and family that might have gotten pulled in as well. Then the guy skips town not only with the money but with the SSNs and financial information for all those people, their spouses and dependents. Once the IRS finishes with them they'll have to deal with the inevitable identity theft.
These people weren't stupid, they were greedy.
My only question is, how many times did they ask "How much" and NOT get caught?
The only thing this has to do with the dept,is the fact these people are all cops.This kind of shit has gone on for years. In the early 70's a bunch of fellow teachers did the same thing.the pied piper then set up phony shoe shine businesses and bogus car washes as the vehicle for decide. Every one got caught, had to pay what they owed, and got audited for years.none of this should have anything to do with being a police officer.If you fell for it, get ready for a haircut.
He was charging a lot more than what is stated here. He would prepare it for you, but not sign his name to the document. Lots of additional exemptions for donations, gambling losses, uniform expenditures etc. Idiots hopped on his short bus in droves for years. Fair warning was given, but they all just saw dollar signs. No sympathy here.
9.5 get off the website!
Get a large tube of crazy glue for those very loose rectums. Non tax deductible..............
So the tax guy scoots with about a quarter million in fees and leaves the idiots who filed holding the bag.
You’re missing out on several deductions
Union dues
Parking is deductible
Mileage is deductible under certain circumstances
Your dry cleaning
Ammo and range time (your own not the department)
The % of your cell phone bill as it relates to work use (they’re gonna subpoena your records anyway)
Tolls are not if you’re just commuting to and from work
Pens, notepads, etc
Anyways, that doesn’t matter cause no of that will be deductible under new tax laws.
Bad move. It’s simple. Your tax return has to make sense. Now, they have to come up with answers to cooked up bullshit. Good luck! You re gonna need it.
The IRS is the collection agency for the Federal Reserve. We get taxed into oblivion from every direction to pay the interest on the trillions of dollars the Federal Reserve creates out of thin air and loans to our government. In the eyes of the IRS there is no greater crime. Examples have to be made. Murderers will see less time than these P.O.s.
I believe the old adage is "pigs get fat, and hogs get slaughtered". Sounds like a lot of people got rather hoggish........
Happened on the cfd a few yrs back also i believe.
Greed will get you every time. Fact.
Too many people to fire. Precendnt was set with the numerous firefighters caught up in a theft scandal maybe 5 to 7 years back by ig's office. Something about charging downtown business's 500.00 usc for standpipe tests. Nobody will get fired.
005 has always been an abode of genuis's.
From a VERY good source at IAD: The PO that was doing the taxes is reported to be cooperating with the IRS (first one to talk gets the best deal!!). Cellular records of those involved have been subpoenaed to prove intent to defraud. Seems they've known about this for sometime and was letting it play out to see how many people took the bait. They had to shut it down because it looked like there was an endless supply of greedy cops. They let these morons paint themselves into a corner claiming ignorance and now they're gonna hammer them. It'll be interesting to see how many of these mopes get hit with making false statements in addition to the other charges.
I thought it was a sanctuary City and we didn't have to follow federal law? That would be my defense.
A lot of fines backpay and interest but I don’t see jail.
This was out and out fraud. You don’t get $47,000 back for 3 years by adding uniforms, parking court , mileage and tolls. To get $15,000 a year back, you have to take probably an additional $50,000 or more in deductions because you are only getting the taxes paid back on those deductions
Quick question. You are exactly right about the deductions and it must be the wages and W2 that are involved. I know when you initially file you taxes you could exclude a W2 or two, but once you file and then amend the return, the original W2 would have been filed. How can you withdraw that W2. This scam just seems so ridiculous and stupid you wonder how anyone would think it could work
how is it that otherwise reasonably bright people can be convinced to commit tax fraud on such a wide scale?
it is not like we are talking about completely stupid people. they had to be not completely stupid to pass the various tests to get hired and to pass the academy.
I see people deducting mileage and parking fees,tolls and thats not deductible. We're not independent contractors or self employed individuals to have laundry lists of deductions
Obviously you have a idiot ta. Preparer. You can deduct all your work related expenses except for your cell phone. But that should be allowed as well since most land lines are gone and not its communities action through cell only.
Well, I guess this is good news for that recruit class that’s being held up as it’s unlikely they’re going to get fired as the city may need the warm bodies. The bad news is they’re going to 005.
Not the chosen. They will end up in 016 and008
A thief is a thief. If any of these scammers are in the merit process, they should be pulled out and not allowed to interview. You knew exactly what you were doing. $15,000 dollar tax return... yeah right! You stole money and should be required to pay it back.
I'm a CPA. This sounds civil, not criminal, except for the prepared. Hi
“Tsk tsk, those guys should know better... I am glad I never have to worry about getting jammed up like that. I actually don't mind getting taxed by Uncle Sam or Uncle Rahm. I actually encourage tax increases because I know the money goes to a great cause. If Uncle Rahm is happy, then my bosses are happy, then I am happy, and that is what I am about these days.
A bigger tax return, sign me up! I need some money after the divorce.
No wonder the Horseshoe casino have been busy on the $5. to $ 10 slots. Free buffets of animal food and Jack Binnon steak house. The share holders of Harrah' says thanks to the CPD and will have a party for first responder's soon for dropping tall cash in their machines. Also buying all those high line rides with a nice down cash payment has the IRS laughing how stupid these coppers are. A little time in Club feed will make you live healthy and live longer. Ask that Jag Off George Ryan.
You think white shirts mean anything to the U.S attorney ? Fuck no. No golden pension for them. Felony convictions get you a refund, money for the blood sucker attorney' to use up to get you a short say in the country club.
Hope city hall starts seeing the fed; hitting city hall and crook county also.
Maybe I could buy one of them on the cheap.
Are there even 200 Officers in 005?
The number involved seems rather inflated.
I can’t believe any copper would be this stupid in this day and age.
I remember a guy in the 010th district was a CPA and did Policeman's taxes. Coppers with no mortgage or other deductions were getting returns of nine-ten thousand. I was told about this as a recruit and couldn't figure out how this was possible. Well everyone I knew who had their taxes prepared by this guy had their reurns frozen and the Cpa/Copper got 20 years. He got out in like 2004-2008. If you have your taxes done on turbo-tax or by an accountant and some says they can get you thousands more, know right away its a scam.
This sounds like a shit storm on a Epic Level. Folks, the feds will hit you with wire fraud. Lawyer up and save your pension.
I still haven’t sent my taxes yet, anybody has a contact number for this guy?
Yet the democrats lining their pockets and “war chests” with kick-backs doesn’t even bring a bat of the eye from the G.
Is this a belated April fools joke? Or are the fools the ones who agreed to do this?
The Repo Man finna be working OT snatching up all those new Bimmers, Caddys and Lexuses
I believe the plural of Lexus, is Lexi.
Just playing devils advocate, but if a “tax expert” tells me my prior year tax returns are wrong and tells me he could fix them then why not have him “fix” them. Hypothetically in this scenario I’m completely ignorant on tax rules so I have no idea if he’s doing something shady or not, I’m taking his word since he’s an expert. Assuming I get audited and caught , let’s say I agree to repay then how can I be charged with anything if I didn’t have knowledge of the fraud. The preparer of the returns is the one orchestrating the fraud.
(OT) we can agree the kid shot by police University of Chicago was definitely a "mental" his mother confirmed this, and with all the slashing,deaths and maiming caused by so many mentals all over and even on CTA buses and in the loop,on the Gold coast what would help this?
Emanuel's mental health clinic closures curiously absent from Kennedy Forum
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/chicagoinc/ct-met-rahm-mental-health-0117-chicago-inc-20180116-story.html
Oh boy rahm somehow forgot to mention this:
But while he was keen to claim credit for one of his final acts as a congressman, Emanuel chose not to mention one of the most controversial decisions of his first term as mayor: closing half the city’s mental health clinics, including clinics in the high-crime, low-income neighborhoods of Woodlawn, Gresham and Back of the Yards.
** Now this is interesting does anyone think that if these were open many of the mentals could get care and meds? so all the murder mayhem and maiming fall at rahms foot stool! Wait he is spending hundreds of millions building new schools even going so far as to build on ancient burial grounds,may the deceased be damned? Then taking away police retirees health care is he hoping many coppers "go mental" also after removing health care? Now he has a few running against him who are pawns in the deck who will all get juicy contracts after election for drawing votes away from each other!
Here is example of what police officers deal with on a dily basis any citizens liberals want to chime in and tell us how to handle this?
“Forget it, Jake. It’s Chi-Town again”
This is unbelievable. I reported this kind of activity to one of your officers attending a CAPS Meeting and that the person doing it was arrested for this criminal activity. Why would officers fall for this obvious scam? I do not know why they would be afraid, they did not know it was a scam.
There are constant ads on social media and other internet sites claiming free grant money, government grants, free things for seniors and other free money available. The only person guilty of criminal conduct is the person who did the tax returns.
How stupid are you that see a problem with getting 47k back.
About 15 years ago there was a CPA that all the coppers in 009 and 008 were using. Getting big returns then the IRS started audits a bunch took a beating on back taxes and fines. If it sounds to good to be true - it is!
4/06/2018 12:44:00 AM
Actually, you can also write off any and all work equipment you personally purchased (cuffs, gun,etc), union dues, donations, capital losses (stock), since you are on-call 24hrs you can also write off your cell phone bill for voice, data if you respond to emails....there’s a considerable amount if you read the regulations.
I’m sorry but I never trust when an officer has a side hustle because usually they don’t devote the correct about of time on whatever needs to be done and/or done correctly or things like this happen and you’re left with no chair to sit on when the music stops. Haven’t been burned yet.
The city gave him a "Retired" cpd ID, even though he resigned before 20. He would have had 19 years this year...unfortunately I just lost a lot of respect for that ID.
"Anyone who believed this was legal is too stupid to be a sworn officer"
But is qualified to be a boss
As a CPA, I am curious to know exactly what items were amended to generate these refunds. As a W-2 employee, there isn't a whole hell of a lot that can generate refunds like that, sans fraud.
They did not understate their income. They are going to pay fees & fines. The city will garnish their checks for years to come.
Unless someone admits to knowing li y defrauding theIRS, don't count on criminal charges
Doubt the IRS will care much about what the Department does with them. The IRS wants and will get their money.
The refund money, back taxes, interest and penalties. Fire them and that makes it tougher to repay.
The scamming CPA will be found and put through the wringer.
This is like that piece of shit Aaron Gibson in 007 years ago that stole the identity of his fellow coppers.
if they actually engaged in tax fraud to this extent I suspect they will be doing federal time. some minor punishment from the cpd is just not going to matter. the IRS just loves this kind of thing becasue they can get a big splash and terrify the rest of the taxpayers into paying.
The guy comes in, makes big promises, delivers, then disappears, leaving the Police Department with egg on its face. Does no one else smell a rat?
Appears the CPD took a round in the War On Police.
Find that guy!
Finding the guy doesn’t change anything. These idiots knew what they were doing and couldn’t be this dumb to believe this was a legitimate filing. I can’t you think there was a CPD conspiracy on this.
At least this statement sounds good until rahm crushes her like a coack roach and attacks the police as he is known to do:
As long they reported all their income, it's just a mistake. No jail, but a boatload of interest and penalties.
=================
Unless they prove conspiracy. Then it’s federal time. And you know some copper is gonna lie to the IRS Special Agent...
4/06/2018 05:41:00
This is more than a mistake. A mistake is adding a few hundred or thousands dollars to a deduction or taking a questionable deduction. Do you realize how much additional deductions they would have to take to get $47000 refunds if you are in the 25% bracket you would need over $200,000 in deductions to get that kind of refunds
My guess is the IRS employee who first audited this took one look and said “this has to be a joke. This can’t be for real”. A 10 year old must have mailed this in. Don’t think this was a sophisticated fraud. Almost like the bank robber that drops his drivers license on the way out and can’t figure out how he got caught
No big deal. over refunds always happen. As long as there was no intent (and how could there, copper was not doing his own return) they will have to set up a payment plan and pay it back. If its even true that agents were there, trust me they are looking for the cop who prepared the returns. Happened to TONS of coppers in 009 back in the early 90's. Some lady on archer was making it rain for all the coppers. Not one got into trouble but had to pay it all back w/ intrest. No new car/boat/
motorcycle FOR YOU!!!
4/06/2018 08:13:00 AM
Sure...relax all! You only have to come up with additional taxes, penalties, and interest. Potentially big numbers.
For future reference, you should never sign a tax return prepared by a third party until after it is signed by the third party. Keep in mind, also, that even if your return is prepared by a third party, you are responsible for the accuracy of every line item on the return.
Ok, this is what he did. He didn’t sign the return or the amendments. Since he didn’t sign it, he assumed no responsibility and he didn’t declare the income to the irs. He has been doing this for years, He didn’t just do taxes in the 5. He did pos taxes in a couple other districts as well as a couple pos in headquarters. One the supervisors received almost $70,000 in back refunds.
He was charging a lot more than what is stated here. He would prepare it for you, but not sign his name to the document. Lots of additional exemptions for donations, gambling losses, uniform expenditures etc. Idiots hopped on his short bus in droves for years. Fair warning was given, but they all just saw dollar signs. No sympathy here.
4/06/2018 09:02:00 AM
One more thing about the Credit Union and the response yesterday from the Dir of Sales...
The CPFCU was built twice, expanded and branched out several times since the old Wabash & Lake office...on the paychecks of thousands of police officers and their families.
If they’re not making money and have to charge bs fees, it the management NOT the member.
Who here is not making money in this economy under the leadership of President DJTrump?
Pull out and watch them fail just like Broadway and Seaway, never had good run, not even for one fiscal year.
My lump sum isn’t going to close them, but back in the day CPFCU was the Bailey Bros Building & Loan of its time.
Not anymore.
That’s all.
Thank you.
Sounds like that retired copper/tax man, Brian Short
It has been reported that he filed the financial paperwork and is due to announce.
If this racist hater makes it, we will definitely become an even bigger joke on the national stage.
Two things I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone mention.
1. How many "Rules of Conduct" did this dumb shit violate? Start right with #1.
2. Aren't tax returns and amendments signed by the TAXPAYER "under penalty of perjury"????
nothing in this video says to me that it's an issue that requires police to go in and handle anything at all
What other B.S. are they on?
This is what happens when you end VRI...
If you report anyplace other than your regular assigned location, ie court, vri, details, etc. it is deductible.
Read very carefully what the IRS rules actually say. Under no circumstances are you allowed to deduct commuting expenses. You can deduct mileage tools and such if you are required as part of your job to go from one place to another. So if you go to court first and then go to your regular place of employment your expenses for getting from court to your regular place of employment are probably deductible but not the expenses to get to court. You can deduct union dues and you can deduct things like uniforms to the extent that they are not covered by a uniform allowance. You also can't deduct things like guns ammunition and other toys unless they are work-related. For instance you would have a tough time deducting a lever action rifle since it probably could not be used for work-related functions. Training ammunition is sort of iffy because your employer provide you the necessary ammunition for training and qualifying. The thing is the IRS does not care if there was some minor cheating going on. They have computers that scan returns and look for trigger points where someone will take a closer look because it's an unusual situation. If you make 75 grand a year on a W2 and try to claim $30,000 in business expenses you are going to get flagged because it's so out of whack with everybody else that make 75 grand a year.
4/06/2018 12:44:00 AM
Blue / white shirt will not matter, there phone call will not matter. They got greedy and got caught. this will put all the cops now on the IRS watch list to see who is getting too much back. Well they got caught and Uncle Sam will give you what you have coming. Now kiss your job as a cop good by. Have your side job, have your side job, just hope they do not freeze your assets.
