- Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson got an earful from community stakeholders Wednesday about his decision to rule that Police Officer Robert Rialmo was “justified and within department policy” when he shot Quintonio LeGrier and bystander neighbor Bettie Jones.
During an invitation-only meeting at the South Side Community Arts Center, roughly 30 black ministers, elected officials and community leaders confronted Johnson about his decision to contradict the Civilian Office of Police Accountability and COPA’s recommendation that Rialmo be fired.
“They feel frustrated. They feel angry. They feel like there has not been much difference in what we’re seeing in the past as it pertains to the shooting and killing of unarmed black men and youth and people in the community,” said Chicago Urban League President and CEO Shari Runner.
We wish the media would stop being such whores and including Bettie Jones in the "justified" statement. There hasn't been a single finding that her death was anything except a tragic accident. A bullet passing through the offender's body and striking an unintended person is not criminal by any stretch of the imagination.
We also wish Fran would stop publishing bullshit like this Runner character's statement about "unarmed black men."

The weekend of April 5-8, 1968.
The MLK riots started about 18 hours after he was assassinated by sniper fire on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. "Students" from three high schools (Marshall, Austin and Farragut) converged on the intersection of Madison St. and Pulaski Rd. about noon.
What began as shouting soon evolved into violence with rocks and bottles being thrown at 011 officers from the back of the mobs. Then the smashing of store glass windows, looting and rioting with non-stop 10-1s. Within 2 hours., stores on Madison St. between Pulaski and Kostner were set ablaze by arsonists, the huge clouds of black smoke visible by COS dispatchers at 1121 S. State St. HQ.
011 Cmdr. George Sims ordered all gas stations closed (Molotov cocktails). We were in for a looooooooooong weekend despite an Illinois National Guard call-up.
Two years earlier, there was a riot after a CFD tillerman's steering error on a hook and ladder accidentally killed a youth outside the then fire house on the NW corner of Pulaski and Wilcox St.
While about a dozen looters were found fatally shot at various looted and torched stores during the MLK riots, mostly on Madison St,, none of the good guys were seriously hurt or killed. Shots fired by rioters everywhere.
The previously cheap-ass Goldblatts store on the SE corner at Pulaski was closed to customers and suddenly became "police-friendly" giving out free sandwiches, coffee, soft drinks, etc.to officers, guaranteeing CPD protection (wise merchants since only Goldblatts survived unscathed by rioters). Before the riots, they would not give CPD officers a break on even flashlight batteries.
We will never forget that weekend from Hell.
OT: At 6:01 PM on Wednesday in Memphis, the exact minute MLK Jr was murdered 50 years ago, phlegm was preaching in his usual style while standing on the very spot where MLK Jr fell when shot. Why was phlegm chosen for such an honor? phlegm was not present when the incident took place 50 years ago and there were at least three others in attendance who were at the original incident. Why not one of them?

1st "question" - all shootings by police have a single cause.
&
2nd "question" - that single cause is the 'subject' refusing to comply with an officer's lawful command.

Although elected by the City Council, not by the voters, Eugene Sawyer was still elected, not appointed.
And, it was surprising the City Council actually got something right. Eugene Sawyer was a good man and a great Mayor (02 December 1987-24 April 1989) until shanks stole it from him.
