Stabbing Arrest

  • After plunging a knife into the neck of a software CEO outside a River North bar last month, a South Side man boarded a CTA train and began counting the cash he grabbed from the victim, prosecutors alleged in court on Friday.

Gino D. Bassett, Sr., 56, appeared before Judge Michael R. Clancy, who denied bond during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Court Building on Friday afternoon.

Bassett, of the 6100 block of South Ingleside Avenue, was charged with first-degree murder and two misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Bassett is accused of stabbing Miguel Beedle, 55, of Park Ridge, on March 23 around 2:30 a.m. after following him into an alley in the 400 block of North State Street on the Near North Side.
Nice job tracking down all sorts of video to retrace the offender's escape, but we maintain our criticism of that the cameras are only there to record you getting assaulted and (in this case) killed. They do nothing to prevent crime and six kids don't have a father now due partly to chronic officer shortages and Rahm's failure to address the situation.

The irony is that the offender lives down the street from UofC. If the offender did this to a student what would be the outcome. Snowflakes would defend this guy because "It was only a knife, and he's underprivileged."

THANKS for filling in the motive for this crime. In watching TV, they talk about the killing but do not say anything about WHY? I thought he knew the victim. Had no idea of what the motive was.

Just another story about how you shouldn't be going downtown - and if you do - load up with weapons to defend yourself.

Not to mention that due to Chicago politicians desperately wanting to disarm citizens in the murder capital of the country, I'm sure the bar had a "no concealed carry" sign as required by the city of any business with a liquor license. I don't know if the victim had a concealed carry permit, but Rahm wanted him disarmed and defenseless anyway.

Citizen Troll: The D unit should be bashed sometimes. With a cleared by arrest rate of about maybe 25%, how can you defend that? Those Tulsa PD bumpkins (who are great detectives) I see on the First 48 are at 96% I read. And I remember a CPD that was close to an 80% rate. But it bothers me you can be murdered sitting in traffic on Nelson Mandela Way and there is a slim chance anyone will be held accountable. As a citizen that greatly bothers me and as a voter I hold Rahm accountable for that. But congratulations to all who handled this Beedle case. Great work and it is very much appreciated by many, thank you. You can believe that.

Thanks to the police for finding this killer. Every citizen should be thankful to the police for getting people like this off our streets. His PD yesterday on the news is a real piece of shit. Several years ago the state's attorney's victim witness office used to call her "Miss Piggy". lol She looks and smells worse than the real Miss Piggy.

This offender has been a chronic, psycho, agressive beggar for years menacing the river north area. Convicted police fighter. The justice system has had many chances to put him away and has not. Someone has to be killed first I guess.

Anyone who touts the Cameras as the solution to crime prevention is missing the point. Cameras are Great INVESTIGATIVE TOOLS! I solved a "Heater Case" using CTA bus cameras when they were in their infancy, back in 2000. Even though the photos were in grainy Black and White, we were able to apprehend the kids who set a CTA bus driver on fire by lighting up his polyester uniform shirt while he was driving the bus. However, if there had been a cop on the bus, the incident would not have occurred in the first place. THE USE OF CAMERAS, UNLESS THEY ARE MONITORED 24/7, ARE REACTIVE POLICING! Officers on the scene deter crime and are Proactive Policing. Camera Policing is paid for with the lives and well being of victims. Meanwhile the Elite like Rahm, demand a physical police presence. Does anyone think Rahm would give up the 21 cops assigned to guarding his house, not to mention his actual bodyguard detail, to instead be simply protected by cameras? Yet the ignorant public that keeps electing Rahm settle for only being guarded by cameras! Baby "G"

I'm not blaming the victim, Miguel Beedle, as Leftists love to do but *if* the details in the article are correct, all I can say is: ........
----- Never flash a wad of Cash around in public at any time of the day or night, and no matter where you are.
----- When you leave a place -- LEAVE! Do NOT needlessly hang around outside like this gentleman, Miguel Beedle, allegedly did for 30 minutes. (yes there's exceptions, but you get the point)
----- Always be aware of your surroundings. Situational Awareness WILL save your life.

I'm glad the Detectives were able to resolve this case to quickly. Great work all around, 'guys'.

ps: One of my other survival tools is; When out in a public establishment (Restaurant, Lounge, Bar, etc) Never sit with your back to the door.

pps: I'm sure the majority of you Officers know and follow these simple 'Life Tips' but casual readers, 'civilians', may not.

Cops do their part, arresting the criminal element.
The problem rests with the BAR takeover of OUR Judiciary, acting as if it their own to operate however it wants to. The DA / ASA has BECOME the judge jury and executioner, and to avoid accountability they now abdicate the very duties they usurped and do so to play politics in their party electioneering.

They send right back out to the street the criminals the cops just apprehended.
Sounds about like illegal aliens captured, huh? Catch and Release.

Toss EVERY Bar member off the bench - every election!
Toss every Bar Member OUR of political office - every election.
Do this -send the democrats packing, kicked out of every position of power, and we can finally stop this mindless catch and release stupidity - with ALL forms of criminal catch and release!

Of course cameras can't prevent crime. They only document the crime. Criminals would have to care about facing actual consequences after they're recorded. Now if it's a camera on robocop then it would be a different story. But we're not there yet.

Good old fashion detective work.
Too bad it’s not the 70’s.

Not knowing the details (ballbustin’aside), besides the stench and rummaging through the garbage, was it hard was it hard to find a nut in a nut dish called Lower Wacker, a Rahm Emanuel protected Sanctuary?

Bassett probably a repeat violent offender who happens to be a violent nut and is going to be cared for and exonerated by the least effective and most corrupt criminal justice system in the world.
No weapon, witnesses, just images....In Cook County IL...no trial, Kim Fixx-NoTime Evans (neither could pass a notary public course), lords of judiciary.

The AlderThieves as well should just as accountable and tried for allowing and assisting the criminal element that flourish in these downtown Sanctuary Wards.

The scumbag offender has been getting locked up in 018 since the 80's. Three decades of engaging in crimes as a super predator. How many times has this subhuman gotten away with shit? I'm guessing too much to count. But, keep voting the same and these half-mental, substance abusing super predators will thrive. What happens when residents and tourists refuse to patronize downtown and Mag Mile? Maybe the liberals and politicians should think about our main economic engines rather than borrowing billions for an airport expansion when Chicago may become a no-go zone in the near future.

Were there to develop an accurate, reliable, authentic, sincere and trustworthy expectation of the absence of the effects of the enforcement of the second guessing of self defense actions, the problem of the career criminals surviving to become career criminals would be solved by those who only truly fear being judged by the abudance of second guessing nitwits.

As it is, avoiding experiencing the effects of these career criminals is far easier, for those who are capable of facing, and, thus, knowing the nature of reality, then providing the beneficial contribution to civilization of reducing the career criminal population to near zero.

Why did the victim Beadle hang out front for 30 minutes? What was he doing? Waiting for an Uber? Then the victim ducks into the alley? Why? Take a piss? And the offender Basset has been a chronic problem for years. Why, at 58 years old, murder this particular victim? And murder in such an odd fashion? Stabbing in the neck does not seem to be a usual method. Not that it would change anything because Beadle is deceased and Basset is Hopefully going away for the remainder of his years

Catch and Release in Full effect at 26th and Cal:

Cook Co. ASA love to release convicted sex offenders on IBonds -or- they just don’t approve charges at all.
These predators lie on where they live, usually next to a school or playground, or they are already grooming the little boy down the street. All violating the IL sex registry laws.
Gives them another chance to grab a kid and do their dirty deeds AGAIN.

Same arrest would be a very high bond in any other county.

To the citizen troll at 6:54-

I suggest you do a little research before you rip anyone. Learn about the so called "criminal justice" system here or at least the system that pretends to be one before you spout off on a topic of which you obviously have little or no knowlege. Learn about the no snitch culture that exists here and in the areas where most of the shootings occur. Learn how vastly understaffed the "D unit" is in Chicago (which I am NOT a member of ) and how hamstrung they are by Department rules and all the consent decrees that the City has agreed to. And lastly but not leastly stop watching television and thinking that you are getting the real picture on shows like 48 Hours or that watching shows like that somehow make you an expert on Police work or that you are even entitled to have what you think is an "informed opinion". Tulsa and Chicago are worlds apart in demographics, political structures and criminal justice systems. Comparing the two is the equivalent of comparing Mayor Emanuel to an honest and ethical human being.

A good question was asked as to why Beedle stood outside for 30 minutes. Did he call for a ride? He lived in Park Ridge and it is a long drive on the Kennedy from 400 N. State after a night of drinking. What was his blood/alcohol level? If he was intoxicated, he was a good victim choice.
