- Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Wednesday dangled a $175 million pre-election perk that could provide a substantial savings for Chicago families with young children, but the scripted roll-out offered more questions than answers. [There's a lot of that going around Chicago lately - SCC]
The mayor who endured a 2012 teachers strike so he could implement his longer school day and school year is promising to provide universal full-day pre-school for 24,000 four-year-olds by 2021. That is, if he’s still mayor by then.
During a campaign-style fireside chat at Truman College, Emanuel said the phase-in would cost $175 million annually by the fourth year.
$175 million, but hey, cut that health care for retirees and widows!

My wife and I were on the job but retired now. We raised ours without any help from the government. And did not even get the free public school educations. They went to Catholic grade and high schools. And this meant working extra jobs. And now this weasel Rahm took away our health care and even though we paid into Social Security from other jobs we get a fraction of what other people get because of the Windfall elimination tax bill that Congressman Rostenkowski passed. So don't count on getting your full pension in the future because the Democrats have mouths to feed for votes.

The longer school day in CPS consists of a addionital 50 min. of gym class daily and making gym for 4 years a requirement for graduation.Is it really worth all the extra money when the data is squed and the core classes standards are so low??

True story! Rahm was once heard in a closed door meeting, in reply to a question about where the money for one of his pork projects was going to come from. I quote, "We always have the Stupid Money!" Meaning, the taxpayers.

And I'm lucky, I have seen widows who pay all of their checks for healthcare. No help from FOP. They just have programs for those that are Medicare eligible. F**k everyone under 65 and their wives. Don't trust Rahm(city) and don't trust FOP. Think they'd mention it in new contract talks? No! Kids, you are on your own. Hope there is a pension when you retire, but remember Rahm always finds money for his political projects ( I mean Votes).

175 million! That is just a low end estimate,not counting the food,wipes,diapers etc... The parents would be doing what then? Then not all neighborhoods, you have to be under a certain limit,though government was "by the people,for the people, with liberty and justice for ALL"! How can you allow some "children" free but others would be excluded because their parents choose to hustle and work hard to make more money?
Rahm shorted the police pension payment,and yet here he is again buying votes,and pandering using "our money!"

A good question. Who do you contact to get the Windfall Elimination Tax repealed? I tried contacting our senators, with no reply!
Maybe contact the national FOP? What have they done for their dues payers lately?
The current Presidents likes law enforcement, and could be helpful if someone could inform him about the injustice being done to law enforcement people in this country!
The senior senator in Illinois, who has a wife and a son who are registered lobbyists, has a new plan to clear up the opioid crisis. He plans to tax the cancer patients, etc... that get prescription opioids and use the money to treat the no self control assholes that steal or otherwise acquire opioids illegally. That’s all the asshole leaders know how to do, is tax the shit out of everyone but themselves.

Wouldn’t happen today. Husband and wife on the job today with salary, uniform allowance, duty availability and with some overtime make $100,000 each a year. Making $200,000 a year you can pay for catholic grammar and high school. I would say in my kids grammas school, over 90% of the parents make less than that
