- At least 67 people have been shot in the nation’s third-largest city since Monday, a troubling uptick of violence for a metropolis that has seen some recent success in reducing shooting incidents.
The surge in violence, which includes five people who have been fatally shot, comes as Chicago Police Department officials have expressed optimism in recent months that gun violence was on the downward trend in a city that tallied more than 1,400 homicides in 2016 and 2017 combined.
Chicago recorded a 22.3% reduction in murders and a 26.5% decline in shooting incidents for the first four months of 2018 compared with the same period in 2017, according to police department data. April also marked the 14th consecutive month in which Chicago recorded a decline in gun violence, according to police department spokesman Anthony [Google-me].
Rahm and Special Ed have been crediting technology (which only assists after the crime has been committed) and the great job by the rank-and-file (who don't have a contract - and won't for quite some time at the current pace of negotiations...but trying finding a word of praise when Rahm cries poor-mouth.)

A friend took the written test this weekend at McCormick Place. Stated there were many empty seats where people just didn't show. Unemployment numbers are reaching near historically low numbers, even for Chicago. If that trend continues, you will definitely not be hiring the best or the brightest.

The next paragraph states “Despite those losses of beat cops, murders and most other type of crimes have dropped in those four districts so far this year”. Interesting. Seems lack of VRI and manpower haven’t had much of an effect on crime. These fools will do what they are going to do and most have no idea or care about manpower or VRI.

Typical. But do you want a partner that never wanted to show up for the test. Even if he passed the written what are the chances he shows for power test, psych , polygraph or even completes the paperwork. If you don’t want to take the test don’t. That the trouble now. More and more applicants do want to be the police or do police work, but just want the salary and benefits and nothing else that comes with the job

It’s funny how people on this blog who aren’t the police talk about getting things done. They talk about how Vri didn’t work and it’s just bodies on the street. Well let’s hear some ideas. At the very least Vri provided backup and an illusion that there were more of us in the streets. We don’t police anymore and this is the era a fetal policing. So maybe we should just make more units right? So we can have 6 cops going into the police station to process a riding bicycle on the sidewalk arrest. That sounds like a great solution. The hood is going to explode with crime this summer. At the very least least, the city should pay us overtime to work downtown and protect the city’s money maker. There are not enough police on the street period. We need the backup out there.
