CFD Wake

  • Two firetruck ladders hoisted an American flag into the air near the entrance of a Southwest Side church where mourners and first responders attended visitation Sunday for Juan Bucio, a Chicago Fire Department diver who died during a rescue attempt last week.

Supporters including Gov. Bruce Rauner, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson and strangers from out of state came to pay respects at the chapel of St. Rita High School a day before the funeral for Bucio, 46, a 15-year veteran of the Fire Department.

[...] Bucio, who also served on the Chicago Police Department for several years, died May 28 while searching for a man who had fallen off a boat on the South Branch of the Chicago River near Ashland Avenue. The father of two young sons was separated from his partner for a brief period and pulled from the water before he was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital about two hours after the initial dive.
Funeral is at noon today. RIP.

Anybody know how I could send a check to this firefighter’s family? Perhaps someone has set up a bank account for them already. If anyone knows, please post.

I was blessed to have known and worked with Juan in 018 on the CPD.
He remains a credit to all first responders for his sincere devotion to duty.
Rest In Peace our brother, your work here is done.

Just got home from the Funeral with our CFD Brother and it was a great showing by both CPD and multiple other agencies. The main topics of conversation were the absolute love for Juan by anyone who worked with him at both CFD and CPD and the complete lack of respect shown by the Kneeling CFD Fool. It has to go down as one of CFD’S most humiliating photos ever. As a Black Officer I cant believe someone would be so vile and ignorant. Just when your think our culture is hitting rock bottom something like this happens. I am so very sorry for both the Bucio and the Bauer Families and their devastated coworkers.

The mayor ALWAYS shows support at a policeman or fireman’s funeral.

Then he withdraws support AND healthcare coverage at the contract negotiating table.

He cares.....HA!

If my eyes weren't playing tricks on me, I could have sworn that while the priest was giving the sermon, tiny dancer was seem slinking in back of the screen directly to the right of the altar, sans tie of course, and his suckhole bodyguards looked as befuddled as ever. God forbid , if he HAD to go even against the wishes of the family, he could have at least been on time. It was sickening the way the cameras seemed to find all of the bosses whi looked SSSSSOOOOOO sympathetic. God Speed Juan.

Rahm was there. CPD and CFD were in dress uniforms. Yet the mayor couldn’t be bothered to wear a suit and tie. He showed up in khakis and a sport coat.

This needs to be said. During the funeral, within close proximity to the grieving family, the group of CPD exempt rank was seen and heard yuking it up like they were attending a picnic. They looked like an undisciplined gaggle of sophomores. Even if you merit hacks are accountable to no one, have some respect at a funeral of all places. Beyond disgraceful. No wonder CPD is in shambles.

I worked with Juan. The support from the CPD was beyond words. From help at Blake -Lamb and throughout the two days. We could not have done this without you.

Thank you.
