Numbers Push Again

Once again, this crap:
  • Please tell me why the commander and Captain of 018 are telling recruits that if they really wanna stay in 18 their gonna have to provide them with more isr activity? Isn't that illegal?
And once again, we point out this:

Taking advantage of the new kids who are scared of their own shadows and being separated for any number of reasons is wrong on many levels. Besides, you idiots in command have already lost downtown for the summer - you think ISR's are going to stop crime?

Numbers, numbers! I personally witnessed bosses telling people to get numbers and don't worry about anything. They will take care of them. Only to watch the boss get another promotion or retire. The guy getting the numbers only damaged his record and career with CR#'s. The same working po's have their names posted with a bunch of CR#'s. They are lucky they didn't step in any other shit because all of the numbers would come back to haunt them.

This job became a thing mans/women game.

Commander and Captain of 018 are crazy to want anybody in the station while 018 is in a backlog all day.
They don't care about officer safety, they only care about numbers. If there's a cop calling for help and there's nobody available to respond because everybody is stuck in the station on shoplifters and ISRs they don't care. Somebody is gonna get hurt out there.

Melvin started pushing hard for ISRs at the beginning of this year. Having “district orientation” meetings with the newer officers is just one of his tricks. He also has PPOs in plain clothes and unmarked cars working some bullshit uber mission with ISRs being the focus. He’s using the promise of staying in 018 as a carrot to get what he needs for compstat.

My first question is what the hell are recruits doing in 018 anyway? What are they gonna learn there? How to get 3 parkers and a positive community interaction in one tour? And you wonder why these recruits turn out to be clueless commanders at some point. Put them in a real working district, there’s plenty in each area around the city.

I am a supervisor, and I do not agree with requiring activity, however, I think most people on this job don't realize that quotas are only illegal for tickets. See the last sentence of each ILCS.

(65 ILCS 5/11-1-12)
Sec. 11-1-12. Quotas prohibited. A municipality may not require a police officer to issue a specific number of citations within a designated period of time. This prohibition shall not affect the conditions of any federal or State grants or funds awarded to the municipality and used to fund traffic enforcement programs.
A municipality may not, for purposes of evaluating a police officer's job performance, compare the number of citations issued by the police officer to the number of citations issued by any other police officer who has similar job duties. Nothing in this Section shall prohibit a municipality from evaluating a police officer based on the police officer's points of contact.

(55 ILCS 5/5-1136)
Sec. 5-1136. Quotas prohibited. A county may not require a law enforcement officer to issue a specific number of citations within a designated period of time. This prohibition shall not affect the conditions of any federal or State grants or funds awarded to the county and used to fund traffic enforcement programs.

They’re different breads of animals and NOTHING compare to the “wannabes” gang bangers up NORTH. Someone told me from this Northside District that All Districts are the same as far as the people you’re dealing with. You’re WRONG!

That being said. I love my job, but, seeing how this Department is being run by clueless (and ball-less) STUPIDvisors, I think I’m done. I just monitor my stocks and deferred comp regularly and looking towards my retirement somewhere far far away from this shit hole...

If you want to punish PPOs in 018 for lack of activity, send them to 2nd watch and put them on C.S.' log. Back in March, 018 had 9 opening on days which is absolutely unheard of. A bunch of newbies jumped at the chance to work days in 018. Wonder if they're regretting that move now. Also, these PPOs working in plainclothes on 06 cars with POs that just got off their probation themselves is a disaster waiting to happen. For those of us old enough to remember, we all know what happened in 002 almost 20 years ago when an inexperienced PO just off probation was allowed to work in plainclothes.

To all of the old timers who regularly comment in complaint about the new wave of “recruits” hitting your districts.. I’d like to ask of you all one thing.. Remember. You all speak so fondly of the glory days when you were allowed to be real police and do your jobs the way they needed to be done to achieve the greater good. You tell amazing stories of chases, arrests, guns, etc. The type of shit that, whether you can remember back this far or not, attracted ALL of us to this job.. And listening to you tell those stories all my life, I knew with absolute certainty that during those times you all once LOVED this job. In fact, many of you say so regularly on this blog.

I grew up and was raised in a police family. Those stories of the brotherhood I heard at the dinner table as a child are what drew me to this job, even if it has changed so much that I will never have what you all once did. Please don’t fault me and other young officers for wanting to carry on your torch. We have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for you guys, and many of us aim only to fill your shoes. You often fault us for trying to bring in activity, and yet call us lazy in the same breath. You then get upset that we get to work rapid or 06 cars, while in the same breath preaching the importance of “staying fetal”. Who do you think those cars should go to? Shouldn’t they go to those of us still naive enough to try to do some police work?

The next time you see “bureau of organizational development” under someone’s name, try to remember back just a little. Maybe don’t instantly write that person off as an entitled millennial. I’ll be the first to admit there are some idiots getting on this job who have no business in a uniform.. But there are also plenty of good people who look up to you all for guidance and mentorship, who were raised with the same values and morals as yourselves. Many of us are YOUR KIDS. Sincerely, one very discouraged PPO with about 10 minutes on the job.

She sees a copper working cta special (he was in a special employment car that is how she knew), he calls it in, asks for a beat car, dispatcher tells him to have her call 311. A robbery 311, a lieutenant from 001 pulls up and tells her to call 311 also, guess the bosses in 001 and most likely 018 are told to "kill crime" to make rahms chances better!

Then on the starbucks note this is intetresting the snake ceo who allowed the big payouts to scum that set-up girl inside starbucks is now leaving company as the stick tanks!

Myron E. Ullman, former chairman and CEO of J.C. Penney was named chair, while Mellody Hobson, president and director of Chicago-based investment management firm Ariel Investments, will be named vice chair.

Anyone who thinks 018 is a Cush retirement spot hasn’t been there in the past 8-10 yrs. it’s over in with savages. You’re in a backlog from the time you roll out til checkoff most summer days and nights on 3rd and 1st watch.

While it’s not ghetto domestic busy , it’s drunken bar fights between shitheads and gangbangers , lakefront debochery , flash mobs , and robbery centeral. Plenty of solid police work to be done with legit victims should one choose. Unlike the ghetto which slowly does as the late night goes on , the bars and clubs don’t empty til 4 and 5 am . The night gets busier as it goes.

Ask all the do nothings from 002-003-006 that bid in the last time bids were open thinking they were going to come 018,do nothing, and eat like kings .....90% of them bid back out because they found out the hard way what summer is like. Winter like anywhere is definitely cake

General Orders and Special Orders are merely " vague guidelines " for exempt members.
They are only considered " Enforceable Directives " when applied to the discipline of patrol officers.
I personally know of incidents where " exempts " have violated rules 1,2,14, and 38, and when this was pointed out to a higher ranking " exempt " member I was informed that the G.O.'s and S.O's were merely guidelines, and not enforceable articles in our " para-military organization. Thus no repercussions. Like when former Supt. Matt Rodriguez associated with a known organized crime figure, and convicted felon. " his response : " I didn't think that applied to me. "
They did what they still do today. He was allowed to resign, and keep his pension.

To that one very discouraged PPO with about 10 minutes on the job.

Son, or daughter, you are 100% correct. Do not be ashamed of doing the job, or wanting to do it. Hold your head high and be proud of who you are, be proud of what you do and what you truly try to do, and be proud of the star on your chest. Do nothing to tarnish it and always be proud of it. Times are tough for cops right now, more than it ever was way back when it used to be more fun. We used to get to be the real police all the time. Never let anyone else's perception of you, or your goals change who you are or what you want to do. Pay attention when you see or are involved in something good, ask questions and take note. Pay attention when you see something messed up too, and remember it well so you don't repeat it. Learn the job and enjoy yourself doing it. There are still satisfying moments and ways to have a little fun, maybe just a little bit different from your dad, uncle and grandparents. Stay focused and stay proud.

Because you have bosses from units that find religion with that gold star. Do as I say not as I did. And because the officers with time won’t listen to them . Well at least the Lt on 3rd watch is retiring, useless.

Nice try. They deservedly got dumped for not assisting their teammate on a 10-1 while they stayed inside processing their soliciting arrest. Embarrassing. They should be fired.

Fired ! Seriously, for what processing an arrest. Idiot

Maybe if the watches were run correctly and bosses knew what they were doing it wouldn’t be such an issue. So may do nothing “spots” , foot , bikes etc. , what do they do

OK Rambo,,give it a break,,,,,did you ever consider that maybe some in 018 already worked in the ghetto before you were even born !!! *****

What does that have to do with anything you tool? They were talking about the younger officers....maybe you should set a good example for them instead of hiding out at restaurants and stuffing your face or complaining how bad it is in 018. And if an old timer who has that much time on doesnt want to hump then i see no problem with it at all.....they by all means have the right too.

PPOs,
Please Don’t feel like us old timers don’t like you we can only shileld you to a certain extent now. You have eyes watching your every move (BWC, in car cameras, Copa, BLM, ACLU, A Mayor that doesn’t have your back, a Supernintendo that will all turn their back on you) ready to nail you to a cross. You have more to lose by been pushed to get this activity like your freedom, your family, your health, and your house. You have new use of force policies, car chase policies and a new foot chase policy to tie your arms behind your backs. You can do everything right under state law, but under Chicago copa policies you are expendable. You can respond to a dispatched call and things can go south and they will still put you out to dry. Watch your six and always think before you get into any situation because that might be the one that puts copa nails on your coffin. An old timer told me kid wearing this uniform doesn’t give you special powers, you can’t leap over a building in a single jump, learn to crawl first and listen to those officers with time we didn’t become old timers without experiencing a beat car and Most importantly go to all 10-1 even if you don’t like your fellow officer you might one day be his savior as he might one day be yours.
Oldtimer..

To that one very discouraged PPO with about 10 minutes on the job.

Son, or daughter, you are 100% correct. Do not be ashamed of doing the job, or wanting to do it. "Maybe just a little bit different"? Really? In the past we never had cameras, multiple agencies watching every move and the horrible lack of experienced and effective bosses. How many times in the past, were you guided and helped by the detective, LT or a veteran WC? Not now. Make a mistake today and you face civil and criminal sanctions and civil suits. Talk to your grandparents today and they would be very shocked how the job has changed. Stay fetal.

We have whole teams in 010 made up of newer po’s who have been taught since the beginning, “get me numbers or else you’ll be off this 1088 car!” Ditto reverse seniority tac teams. They just dumped 20 year veterans and a younger P.O. who was smart enough to realize the numbers they demand are not worth it. Guess they didn’t bring in enough riding bike on sidewalk arrests. They demand quantity, not quality.

6/04/2018 07:04:00 AM

Those cars are a joke!!!

The special tact team they made up to be the big league club for them....WOW......I don't think that team had 100 box 1 or 2 arrests combined in 2017, if you take out long form traffic it might be below 50. .......LOL.......

The PPO's the last few years are cocky "know it all" millennials who think they know everything and look at anyone with more than 10 years seniority that we are dogs. Call us dogs, but we still have a job, and will get a pension. Can't get in trouble for street and traffic stops that never occur, right? Wait till the PPOs work a few years and realize that its all a game of smoke and mirrors and they have to work an additional 5 years for their pension! After a few years reality will sink in. PPO's coming to watch secretary telling them what car they want to work or early or late, are you friggin kidding me!

I hope she kicks them out of the office

I'm in 18 and don't want to be here. I'd like to be in 11 and I'm finding it's hard to get there; I've stopped ISR's to piss off the bosses to no avail.

I hate fucken 18 and trying to get out is a bitch presently. fuck the 18th dist.

When the district bids open up, bid out. Simple

All the "poor baby, you have to do work," comments are just confusing to me. Do you guys really think of ISRs as actual work? "In on ISRs" is how people are hiding from work, now. Arrest people for part one crimes, and you can say you're doing work.

Anyway, the ISR is just a bullshit love notes to the ACLU, and *that* is the real issue. Fuck those communist bastards.

Look snow flake cupcake. I don't and never did work in 018. You must be 1 of those bosses kids who gets what ever she wants. I know, you spent your whole 3 months with your fto in the ghetto then mommy made her call to get you a soft school car or park car with week ends and holidays off. But yet you still brag about your time in the ghetto

This is a common problem and sad that they seem to give these PPOS what they want. Bad enough most of us get stuck working with a PPO but then to see them demanding cars or start times leaves a very sour taste in most officers mouths.

Oh you're supposed to just leave your prisoner unattended? I never heard that one before.

That explains why so many prisoners escape from 010. Dumb fucks drop their prisoner off in the processing area and then go fuck off in the tact office.

Let's PRETEND you are supposed to leave your prisoner unattended, how many people listen to the radio while they are processing an arrest?

—- tact in 010 never processes their arrest in the processing room. Always leaves him handcuffed in a room or locked in the larger holding cells. They process the arrest in the office, there are radios in that office that are always on. There is no chance they didn’t know what was going on. Fact is they chose not to help their teammates out. If I were a member of that team I wouldn’t want someone like that as my teammate. If you can’t count on them when you need them most, they’ll never be there for you.
