Detectives Detailed?

So the clearance rate for homicides hovers around 14%. Shootings a tiny bit better. Property crime investigations are suspended on a regular basis due to inadequate evidence collection/processing.

The Department just made something like 110 detectives who are rushing to the Areas to solve crimes. Wait. They're not? They're being detailed to the streets, beaches, downtown, in uniform, until after the Fourth of July?

Is this a grievance? After all, these detectives are merely detailed to the Academy for training. Their Unit of Assignment is still where they came from. In many cases, some of these officers had twenty or more years, yet here they are being re-detailed from Units of Assignment, in many cases with days off being adjusted, for what should be a reverse seniority situation.

And remember....we're not shorthanded.

I heard Class Action Grievance filed already. Department will rather spend the money for an arbitration and detectives will be awarded a few hours compensation four years from now.

As of this past Sunday we were officially assigned to one of the Areas, no longer our units. Days off adjusted, working the weekends and the 4th, one possibly 2 days being OT. We report for duty to Area starting the 10th. They have 8 of us on most corners along Mich Ave in 018,

Um....yes it is a grievance for a contract violation. They are in training for their unit. If they cancel training you by go back to their units. They should already be being canceled on any weekend days offs they have or if forced to take the 4th off should be back in thier unit of assignment that day. But....no one will grieve it and the union will say but they are being promoted. And not worry about the contract.

Off topic;
Key decision awaits Officer Van Dyke as judge pushes for summer trial: Bench or jury?
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/laquanmcdonald/ct-met-laquan-mcdonald-jason-van-dyke-jury-bench-trial-20180624-story.html

Does anyone in their right mind think that if a jury trial is chosen that this will be fair and the most corrupt county in the United States of America the most corrupt city in United States of America? They’re talking about a change of venue they should’ve already been granted it’s going to be very hard if they choose a jury trial to find somebody anyone that is not already known about this case which the dishonest media put out constantly 24 hours a day seven days a week painting the police officer in the worst light as they always do. It would’ve been nice if the Chicago police Exempt rank would’ve stopped by their original decision which was correct that the shooting was justified which it was, changing your mind on a case like this due to political expediency brought all of this.

If you are a police officer and you are reading this which many are for your own good please think about your families think about everything when you get involved in any situation like this proactive policing is totally gone the only thing that should be proactive is the acne cream you have to put on your face other than that protect each other protect yourself, protect your assets protect your family God bless the police

Downtown must be looking at them like PPO’s and think they can do whatever they want with them. They’ll grieve it and probably get something down the road. It’s just another example of 35th Street scrambling to do something and not having a clue how to problem solve. And hey Rahm has put “1,000 new officers on the street.” Not!

No Grievance just griping.
New Dets fresh off Academy IST are at the whim of Area Management for the rest of 2018.
Whether you have 3 yrs or 20 on. New to the Unit blues.
The only thing you keep is your Furlogh seniority on the Roster.
Mgmt. assigns your Watch and Assignments like anywhere else.
That 6-8 week Area Training period when you get to try PC-VC-SVU and then if needed, all the special details, then for the rest of the year after you get a more permanent division, they farm out by unit seniority...unless you’re skilled, versed, juiced and important.
These preplanned low IQ HQ contingent plans pull from all over.
Lowest on the totem pole always applies.

Anyone know if more Dets are detailed than the embedded HQ house mice?
That’s how they do it in the D...how is it in the elite Special Units?

Guess the question really is - why is it necessary to deplete the D Unit?
Because Rahm and Jugghead continue lie about manpower and continue to deny there’s a serious culture of crime that’s beyond out of control.

If any of the Dets out there are contemplating a move to the JISC my sincere recommendation is DON'T DO IT!!! The commander is a total goof and there is so much in-fighting among the supervisors that the JISC is no longer a decent place to work. Most of the Dets are competent hard working dudes, but some can't help but bitch and moan while taking notes on what perks the next guy may be getting or not getting over them and tattling to the sgt...petty shit! The civilian social service agency that works on the third floor of the building pushes their agenda of being able to save even the most deviate repeat offenders and the commander is completely on board with this bullshit. Dets are instructed to assign felony offenses to the program thus avoiding sending these kid criminals to court. The unit is totally understaffed (as is every other unit) especially with the addition of three more districts which brings the tally up to ten districts that bring their juvenile arrests to this building. You are always under the microscope with newly installed cameras in every room and hallway that will serve as the evidence to hang you when you're forced to deal with some unruly kid who refuses to enter the holding cell. Even with the ten hour days, all other perks are gone! Unless you're a south sider who may live ten minutes away and simply wants the convenience of being close to home, the area is still a better place to be trust me.
Just my two cents...newly retired and not missing the bullshit.

The above 2 comments must be from the offspring of a boss. Someone who always got do nothing spots, week-ends off and then due to a miracle made Detective, sergeant, etc,,, on the 1st try via merit. SO now you be a hater when you hear anyone complain about you do-nothings who talk about your 1 day in the ghetto and how you don't know how your name was a merit pick. And yes, I did actually pass the test to make detective, but never had the phone call, clout or family member in a supervisor position to get me in Hollywood area
