End the Parade
- How police handled a fight in the wake of Sunday’s Chicago Pride Parade is now the subject of an investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA), according to a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department.
The videos were recorded as police were in their fifth hour of trying to maintain order along Belmont Avenue where large, lingering crowds sparked a series of fights following the parade.
At 9:33 p.m. on Sunday, police officers witnessed and responded to a battery-in-progress in the doorway of Big City Tap, a bar at 1010 West Belmont.
Footage of the incident captured by several bystanders shows men in “security” shirts involved in a physical altercation. At one point, a woman dressed in white is seen stepping from the sidelines. She then appears to punch a security guard in his arm or chest.
A Chicago police officer steps into view and separates the woman, who falls to the ground. In one video, her legs begin shaking in the air while a spectator screams "she's having a seizure." In another, officers are seen tending to her while awaiting an ambulance.
Ghetto fools acting like ghetto fools, and when the cops arrive and cameras go on, act even more like a ghetto fools then complain that police tried to stop you acting like a ghetto fool.
Time to end this disaster for a few years, same as the south side organization did when St Patrick's Day got too stupid to exist in a neighborhood setting. Five hours of crowds and fights isn't a celebration by any stretch of the imagination.

Stop parades for a year or two until the citizenry starts acting like responsible civilians. Lol! Yeah right.
To say nothng of the fact that a group of slugs surround a squad car and started pounding on it like animals.
It was the typical unadulterated nonsense from a majority of the minority community that came in droves after the parade was over. The bars and food establishments closed early and then it became a scene of wandering drunk or high degenerates. Numerous fights and unreported damage to property from the crowds that would jump on cars dancing and twerking their ass on the bumper. But as I was told by a participant, “ya’all can’t fuck with us because we’s celebratin.” Uh huh, we did what we could. Cleared the sidewalks as we do. Then finally were released around 2am. A nice 12 hour day. As long as the check clears. Look, laugh, leave.

I saw the video of the woman striking one of the security guards. Then the officer gently pushed her, and she went down hard! I also saw her shaking on the ground, while someone yelled she was having a seizure. But what really happened, and I make this assessment after spending some time as a Sgt. in 015, and as a youth having watched many a Tarzan movie, (in Black and White on WGN), I feel there is No Need for an excessive force investigation. The woman was Not having a seizure! The White Devil Cop applied a Bad JuJu curse! The woman was experiencing Bad JuJu! Look it up, it is like Bad Karma, or Voodoo and it is from West Africa, and of course Tarzan movies with Johnny Weissmuller! Since so many of these new officers are college educated, this White Devil, obviously took a college course in African Studies and applied what he learned. It is really beautiful to see an expensive college education with practical applications being applied in our great "Shitty"! Baby "G"

Why not just tape the fight in case someone gets really hurt then arrest offender and use tape for court. Why try and break up fight. Let them hit punch and kick themselves put. Don't put yourself in fray just observe. Plead for calm and ask for cooperation that's how you manage crowds these days. Use a calming but commanding voice. Use your please and thank yous.

Now personally I think we should spray the whole group that is fighting and not even touch them. no politician wants to offend this voting block, no matter what they do. I was working a homicide of a gay prostitute some years back and had to spend time in many of the gay bars and nightclubs. What I saw and what I learned made me so ill that I should have hit the medical. It is out of control, weird , illegal but is OK with city hall and the police leadership.

The parade wasn't as bad as the aftermath. Once the out of control black youth started actin a fool, it got out of control fast! Businesses lost out a lot! By 5:30 pm Target had to close down due to all the disturbances. Then once Starbucks was bumrushed, it also closed early. Stores, bars, restaurants had to close early to avoid the mobs.

In the mid-2000's, The Center On Halsted greatly expanded its social service outreach to include youth homelessness among other areas. That's where a lot of this trouble came from - LGBT kids from the West and South Sides bringing the usual West/South Side problems of violence and savagery. It gets a spotlight during incidents like this but that area has been dealing with a steadily rising problem for a few years now. The ghetto has indeed come to Boystown. Some kids get help (the ones who want help, like anyone else) and some just come for the basketball leagues.
If it was an “Irish” parade it would have been cancelled by now. Then they need to ban together, collaborate and either end the event entirely or scale it back. The truth of the matter is EMS and police simply cannot get to you through the crowds if there is an emergency. Add that to spotty cell phone service and deafening crowds and music. The whole event is a disaster waiting to happen.

Seizures are not caused by hitting one's head. While concussions can cause a seizure, it is not necessary for one to hit one's head to have a seizure. Just flashing lights, or disorientation can cause a seizure. It does not take much. Being thrown to the ground could easily cause a seizure in someone prone to them.
If you consider being slammed to the pavement being handled "gently", I think you need to look up the word in a good dictionary.
In any case, it did not seem like the cop's response was completely out of line. Sometimes unintended consequences happen. it is unlikely he intended to cause a seizure, even if that is what happened.
