Another Way to Kill Crime

Prickwrinkle's people are already disregarding the law - might as well get rid of it:
  • The Cook County medical examiner’s office routinely fails to abide by a requirement that it send an investigator to the scene of every suspicious death, including all homicides and suicides.

Now, saying it can’t afford to do that, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has come up with a Chicago-style solution: water down the county ordinance that requires the on-site visits.

The ordinance says a medical examiner’s “representative shall go to the location of the body” and begin an “investigation with an examination of the scene” — though the agency and Preckwinkle dispute that that’s a requirement.

Still, Preckwinkle is moving to change the ordinance so the office instead would be given “discretion” about whether to make “a scene examination,” based on “generally accepted guidelines for conducting medico-legal death investigations.”
So a failure to investigate sets the stage for downgrading all sorts of suspicious "death investigations."

Why have a squad of Investigators if they don’t go on scene to investigate . . .

Pretty sure “generally accepted guidelines for conducting medico-legal death investigations” means you have to see the body. Hard to do a thorough examination over the phone.

You might expect a question in there about the months wait of finding a double murder happened in an arson case but nope. Yet they do include a link about an ex-cop hired by the ME office after he had shot his fiancee in her legs. I didn't get any further as it requires a subscription to the Scum-Times.

Why don't she follow suit and disband the entire cook county level of government. We can't afford that either!!

They're useless anyway. All they do is delay the real investigation and get in the way.

In 18 years as a V/C Dic, I may have seen an ME Investigator on my scenes about 5 times. It was such an anomaly to see them, you wondered why they came out on those.

We shouldn’t be sending out Detectives to UUW’s either, when probably 95% of the Felony charges are Declined.
Dragging a Detective for an arrestee and/or ME for a community corpse... pointless and only agitates the dindu and seent nuffins.
When there’s a dead body is because Asst. States Activists Office of Cook County Restorative Justice failure to do their job of prosecuting criminals.
In the grand scheme of CC RestoJustUs States Atty is more responsible for death and injury that the hack activist judges

ME’s being told to hold up the Homicide findings as long as possible?
Is PorkWrinkle holding some numbers, but hasn’t endorsed Rahm yet?
Is there another contender being groomed to spike the deaths rate by years end?

PorkWrinkle has a point. ME should be confined to the lab or desk.
But if history serves CC correct, it’s another stunt to eliminate (fire) people that don’t fit the CC model of disparagement amongst their ME staffing.

Stay Fetal.
Write the report, go in make the notifs.
Thanks for a job well done.

Geez, I thought they were doing this already.

In my time on the job,(25+ yrs) I have only had the M.E. come out 1 time.

Get ready for more training!

Next you will hear "Since the police are already on the scene, they will now be trained to "supplement" the medical examiners role."

Make sure you have enough clean uniforms in your locker.

On the bright side, maybe the department will spring for washers and dryers for the district stations when you get one of those extra squishy ones that have been lying around for a few weeks!

Hey, what the fuck do I know, we have a 13% clear-up rate and some cook county investigators are running around a crime scene is just what the Dicks need with that low of clear-up rate. Having another useless fuck on a crime scene is counter productive in my humble opinion, so I think if Prickwinkle changes the wording, it's only going to help all concerned. Oh, I almost forgot, blow me tiny dancer............

Because like most "jobs" in this city/county it's a political hack favor for future campaign donations...

They're worthless anyway... I can't tell you how many times one of the geniuses showed up on scene spouting off on how a suicide is suspicious despite all the evidence (notes, phone calls/personal conversations where the subject says they're gonna off themselves, etc.)that supports otherwise. They're supposed to investigate the death, yet they never conduct interviews of witnesses, and most of the time they don't even collect surveillance video. The usually end up calling the police to get copies of the video and reports. Shouldn't they do that when they respond for their "independent investigation?"

Pull Walsh out of retirement and make him Director of Investigations for the Medical Examiner the city would never have more than a hundred murders a year.

This is the only city I know of where the Medical Examiner or Coroner does not have transport vehicle and crews to take bodies to the morgue.

As soon a they were the corrupt City of Chicago had to pay CPD squadrol crews about $60 bucks a shift when they took the bodies Richie Shortshanks got the Daley/Vanecko Body Snatchers to do it at $880-1000 a pop.

With the pathetic homicide clearance rates and now this move by the ME's office, It's only a matter of time before Chicago gets an upsurge in serial killers.

The environment is ripe.

A populace worn down by years of crime leaving them mostly jaded and uncaring about unusual situations or people, a police force forced to go fetal for their own protection, and large areas of the city where empty buildings outnumber occupied buildings. Mix in the fact that the FBI has largely become a political body and the local chamber of commerce should be placing ads in Serial Killers Monthly.
