Did this really happen?
- OT: How in the hell does this happen? The nine newly promoted Lieutenants from the previous go-around showed up at Navy Pier yesterday with their families in tow to attend their graduation ceremony only to be turned around. They were informed by Academy staffers that they were not on the list to graduate. After leaving Navy Pier and arriving home, their were all contacted and directed to return to Navy Pier to participate in the ceremony. After spending another $20.00 on parking, they all crossed the stage.
It's 100% believable - we've seen who runs special events for the Department. And the way the Department delays "graduations" until Rahm is available to do multiple classes. If they're out $20 for parking...twice...they should just chalk it up to how much the Department thinks about them.

I was at the ceremony, they left off some of the names from the list and they weren’t in the program. Fucking embarrassing.
Can't have a graduation without the supreme commandante, Mayor Rahm.
It's $28.00 for parking - not $20.00 (40% difference)...
Who cares about the ceremony anyways? It's all a sham. Better to skip the ceremony if your merit than to go and act like you belong there.

Graduations are coordinated by the Academy staff (front office) and the Mayors office.
Just add the $20 to the donation you made to your sponsor to be made a LT. Cost of doing business
It was not a big deal. It was identified and mitigated in a matter of minutes.

The incompetence in every unit and part of the CPD is being more apparent everyday. Could it be the new people they are putting in these positions and where are they coming from?
WHEEEEZZZZEEEE was there and stated that this would never happen if she was "EXEMPT" then took 4 hours on the end because she came in late....
I actually tried to skip my own promotion ceremony (I made it off score without the answers) they said I would have to turn in a slip if I didnt show. What a colossal waste of time couldnt wait for it to be over.

Their Comp time on the books just went up in value so just look at the extra $20 as the cost of doing business with this ass backward department.
$40 smackaroos? Sheeeet, some of them paid far more for the study material so I’m sure they won’t mind. Earned, not given!
If any of them are over 55 and don’t t immediately hit the medical, they’re chumps.

If all you took out of this was that it was about the $20, then you are a complete moron.
This is the Training Division.
They like to have group ceremonies whenever possible to save whatever, time, personnel, money, but mainly the mayors schedule.
But if the highly paid, internal house-mouse police there can’t organize an simple ceremony, what does it say about running the rest of the Academy functions.
Good thing nobody was lost, jack-robbed along the way or left unattended on an empty short bus.
That would not bode well for The Right Man formthe Right Time™️, who is riding high with the low crime statistics.
For $20 (additional) those affected by the shutout, can get their image superimposed on a Rahm2019 City skyline calendar.

Doesn’t surprise me, most of the academy staff is incompetent as hell. For those great cops who stay at the academy, I tip my hat. Being around those morons all year must drain the soul.

A few of the merit(LT) already have RDO SAT/ SUN as new LT's.
They all were allowed to change shifts and RDO's so none of them would have to go to ceremony on their own time. Of course they all left to celebrate and did not have to work the shift for the day.
Only lowly recruits have to work shifts the same day as ceremony.

It’s the point that these Sworn members of the CPD had their families attending a promotion ceremony proud of their children and their kids coming downtown to be just turned away and humiliated - yeah I know they make better money than you, they gonna have their feet kicked up on a desk , they are LTs - get over it! They took a test and out of 9 seven made it legit! Their families are proud of them! Just like yours when you got on this job or got promoted ! ~ stop hating other sworn members - get a life

I have 18yrs on the job and I have come to point that I hate to tell anyone i'm an officer. The departmemt has been become a disgrace. They give rank to those that continously do wrong, they don't protect us, they rather sweep things under the rug and never investigate things properly. I've never been this bitter with the department. Tone on top is not trying to make the department better. You can't get into the unit unless you are sleeping with the right person. There no use of doing any work cause it only backfire.

You sure? The only recruits that work on graduation day are those that work 1st watch, which would be the next day.
They’ll retire with 6 figure pensions and cash out about a quarter million in compensatory time and you’re bemoaning they had to shell out 20bucks for parking? Seriously ?
I would give a shit, but most of those merit Lt. are taken care of. A few of them are as smart as rocks. 7th Disrict

Not sure about that. Talked to a recruit that day and she said she was going to call the district the next day for her watch and DO group

In the last few years these screwups have become common place. It will continue and become more frequent considering the top brass and who they are putting in the positions below. Competence is not longer a requirement

Sounds like you have the inside scoop. I bet your job is tough. Are you the baton handler? You don't "work" at the academy. How many minutes do you have on the job? Batons being made has nothing to do with being turned away, not being on the program, or anything else. Someone fucked up and someone signed off on the fuck-up. But it's the academy, so no one cares. You're all just playing police and thinking you're making a difference. Keep churning out moron snowflakes and kissing those ashes that got you your spot.
