Theft of Cash?

Anyone hear about this one?
  • Anonymous said...OT - This years Puerto Rican Fest was the first time they charged a $2 donation at the gate. They claimed that the money was earmarked for the Hurricane Maria recovery effort.

Low and behold, four days after the Fest is over the President of The Puerto Rican Parade Committee went into the 14th District desk to report that "up to $70,000" was stolen from the donation boxes. He's claiming that security was responsible for the theft. Sorry Hurricane Maria survivors, maybe next year.
All sorts of untraceable cash in boxes at a political "festival." Kind of reminds us of the shady accounting that goes on every year at the Taste.

"Shoddy Accounting"? -- that seems to be pretty pervasive on a LOT of things in Chicago including a LOT of City and County Projects.

What School in Chicago gives out an MSA (a Masters in Shoddy Accounting)?? Seems like they have a lot of Alumni walking around.

Gee I could have called that one. What a coinkidink.

If the split is right he'll probably be President next year too. Must be something in the agua, don't worry, the US taxpayer will cover all the natural disasters AND still deliver the welfare checks on time.

More proof that Government is corrupt. Who approves and issues permits for these fest. I am sure that all of these political fests have the proper charitable documentation and the organizers are vetted to prevent just this kind of problem. These events have been breeding grounds for scams and continue to be on multiple levels, no matter who is running them. If there are carnival games most are rigged, some are out and out scams that suck the money out of stupid (and we have a lot of them) peoples pockets. Another big scam is vendors who are not affiliated selling items. Some, more profitable, stands are controlled by politicians and I am sure they are giving a true and accurate count to the effort! But the sad fact is these fests are breeding grounds for gang activity, violence and murders. Realistically from a public safety concern, yes I know Chicago pols don't care, they should be required to have adequate security (not on duty cops) in place or they should not be issued a permit!

I believe you need a different permit for a festival when you charge admission , tickets have to be used and accountable so the city can tax it

Just wondering! Isn't there a Hispanic politician who isn't running again? Speculation was he would run for some other position, like mayor! You don't think this money could wind up going toward that or another campaign, oh no never in Chicago!
One other thought, how much of the total raised does $70,000 represent.

Why would anyone pay to enter. It’s a suggested donation. You don’t have to pay, just walk in

6/22/2018 08:29:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

One problem is the cash takers are usually volunteers and how do you keep track of the number of people who enter, considering some pay, others don’t because it’s a donation. A recipe for fraud

Funny how the PR committee president fired everyone yesterday and put the Casa Puertorriqueña (PR house) where committee does their business for sale! Now he blaming security! He steals thousands of dollars every year! This year since security was watching him and stops him! He makes a report! A joke! Hope no more Parade or fest!

And by no coincidence Tito, the president of the PR Parade Committee stepped down the day after the Fest and now Abel, the corrupt vice prez is in charge

How do they know it was 70,000, and even if that number is right, what the fuck did they think was going to happen to the cash. The money's were going into someones pocket, just like the hurricane supplies were being stolen and sold on the black market. Then the PR Major starts blaming Trump for lack of support. Puerto Rico is bankrupt, and our Common Wealth agreement should be dissolved.

bunch of lies....case report was done by vice president of committee blaming the current president of stealing $80k......but that has been business as usual with the puerto rican committee...and how can he sell the building when the PR house owes city thousands of dollars...i think Maldonado bought it...

$2 a head, that’s 35,000 attendees for the 4 day event?
Bean counters of the IRS and IL Dept of Revenue....time for an audit of that 501-c charitable organization (if it even bothered to apply) and all its Board members.
Someone driving a new Dodge or Jeep this week ?

Believe it or Not -
Puerto Rico came up with a $17 BILLION figure they’d like to have for hurricane disaster relief from the USA...just for starters.
Their failing GovMint experts “estimated” they’d be needing $95 Billion.
FEMA approved and sent over $2 Billion...so far.
FEMA approved over $1 Billion just for individuals and families, includes housing repairs, personal property losses, related medical, childcare and funeral expenses.
And that’s just the FEMA aid and doesn’t include the UN or other relief organizations.
Nobody there or here really knows how many were killed, missing or affected.
Let’s say 70,000 folks are put out, some reports said 65,000 were w/o power.
How much aid did the President of the Puerto Rican Parade Committee say he collected again?
Do the math, amount per family of 4, I’m tired.
Let’s not mention that PR is dead broke, stiffing their retirees like Chicago does or that their San Juan mayor, her administration, her select preferred suppliers are under FBI investigation for fraud, theft and corruption of that FEMA aid.

Nice round unaccounted figure, $70,000.
Where’s the ledger, the daily receipts, list of the benefactors receiving those donations... the Area?
Case Suspended.
$70k isn't even a drop in the bucket compared to the FEMA aid.
That impromptu donation money was just scammed and strong armed from guilt-shamed, clueless people attending a City of Chicago - Rahm Emanuel/Louie GutterRatz promoted and sanctioned free to all community event.
No shame, none what so ever from any of them.
Nothing is going to happen criminally nor will the money magically reappear.
It's the “It’s for the Kids” exemption.
The PRP Committee is planning for another charity drive.
Watch out for the M&M sellers in the intersections along Division St.

We went to the festival that Saturday night. When we were at the ticket booth, we asked both the security guatd and admission booth attendant if the $2 fee was a voluntary donation or mandatory. They both yelled out that it was mandatory admission and not suggested. The security guard then blocked the entrance as if i was going to run through.
