- Dozens of friends and family gathered around the gravesite as Maurice Granton’s black casket with silver detailing was slowly lowered into the ground. Six white gloves were placed on top, a sign of respect from the former South Side gang he was once part of. Now, the family must wait for the release of body-camera footage from June 6, when a Chicago police officer fired three shots at Granton — one fatally striking the 24-year-old’s spine — as he ran away.

A group of young people leaned out the windows of their cars, cheering and holding one of the red shirts that memorialized Granton.

My momand dad must have been former gang bangers because there were 6 white gloves on their coffin too.
The white gloves are a funeral home upsale for the pallbearers. The funeral director would then tell the pallbearers to place one glove on the casket and the other to keep as a memory. Six pallbearer equals six gloves. It is not a gang sign of respect. The funeral home charges 20$ per pair for those cheap China gloves that they buy in bulk. So it's just a funeral home money grab. I've seen this done at pretty much every funeral directed by AR Leak, and the deceased were never gang members. Though this guy may have been involved in gang business, the gloves are not exclusive to gang members. It's even listed as a standard upsale on the Leak and sons price list that is given to everyone who plans a funeral. We even brought the gloves for all my family members who passed. The writer of that nonsense needs to do a little more research.

This reminds me of one of the funniest scenes on the TV show The Wire. A gangbanger goes to a florist to get an arrangement made for his fellow banger’s funeral. After hemming and hawing about what he wants, the florist leads him to the back room where he shows the gangbanger several custom floral arrangements for gang funerals, all with crossed AK-47s, etc. Finally, the banger gives the guy several hundred dollars to do a custom arrangement in the shape of the projects he and the deceased grew up in.
We all have our own way of dealing with the loss of a loved one. But tell me more about the “six white gloves”.

Most of my kin is there, absolutely disgusted with what has happened to the cemetery. Goofs can't act right even during a funeral procession.
My hope is that one day I will hear a news story about one of these funeral processions where a Dindu with his head out the car window will be kissed by a light pole.

A couple of years ago a retired area four homicide dick was visiting parents graves at Resurrection; three bangers approach him and announced a robbery, one had a blue steel handgun and the other assholes pretended they had something under their coats. The retiree to cover behind a tomb stone and pulled out a 45cal auto. The one with the gun dropped it and ran, with the others to a waiting vehicle. He stuck around and made out a report. Fucking cemeteries are dangerous places, its just fucked up.
