- The weekend began with seven people shot in just an hour on the South Side. It ended with 10 people shot in two attacks on the West Side.
By Monday morning, at least 56 people had been hit by gunfire in Chicago over the weekend. At least nine of them died, according to data kept by the Tribune.
It was the worst weekend for violence in the city this year. But more troubling, it was close to comparable weekends in 2016 and 2017, when gun violence hit levels not seen in Chicago in more than a decade.
"Most of Chicago celebrated and enjoyed this weekend," Chicago police First Deputy Superintendent Anthony Riccio told reporters, referring to Pride Fest on the North Side and various Father’s Day celebrations. "However, we saw an unacceptable and frustrating level of gun violence in several communities.
“There’s too many illegal guns on the street,” he added, echoing a constant theme of his boss, Superintendent Eddie Johnson. “They’re too easy to get.”

Kim Fox is CI-ing way too many UUW cases. We had an incident at Puerto Rican fest over the weekend where the command post saw a guy on the pod with a gun in his waistband. They called it out including a detailed description of the guy right down to his tattoos. Area central gun team grabs him just after he pitched the gun in a bush. They CI the case pending DNA analysis. Mind you because of the crowds gathering the gun was recovered by the officers so prints and DNA will come back inconclusive. BUT they have 22 min of pod video showing this goof with the gun in his waist. Unreal.

Unfortunately this is the result of more and more restrictions placed on officers. Back in the day everyone arrested went through the same extensive search (and I mean extensive) now they don't want you "manipulating" the arrestee clothing to look for contraband. The constant restrictions are making it difficult and DANGEROUS for all involved
What it's too easy to do is have children paid for by the state who grow up without any morality or constructive purpose. If they don't have guns then they will kill with their feet and fists.

After a couple of late expirations and late reported incidents our final count for Father's Day weekend is now at an "unacceptable" 12 killed, 46 wounded. That puts it inline with the previous two "unacceptable" shitshows of 2017's 14 killed, 55 wounded and 2016's 13 killed, 46 wounded.
2015 and 2014 were more "acceptable" and "less frustrating" coming in around half of these weekends.

After retirement, we moved to a new town outside of Illinois. Half of the people near me have concealed carry and most have guns in their houses. Numerous gun stores are around and crime is very low. The clearance rate for any violent crime is 80%. Plenty of guns but a very low crime rate?That contradicts the statement made by Ricco and Johnson. Bad people not guns are the problem. BTW, if you are caught with a gun during a crime, you are punished.
I'm hoping for a good wilding on July 4th. Is there an online gambling where I can bet on Chicago violence? Gotta have fun with it somehow.

I would hope every "copper" has easier access to guns than any "banger." 30 minutes after a phone call versus right there in your holster. And Riccio isn't right. You could put every illegal gun in the world on the street and those guns wouldn't and couldn't do a damn thing. Guns are a problem when they're in the hands of criminals who use them to commit crimes. That's it. End of story. Blaming the guns is liberal Democrat nonsense.
