- Authorities are trying to determine how first responders placed a sheet over the body of a teenager who was shot multiple times in the head — then, minutes later, realized he was alive.
The 17-year-old man was shot about 4:45 a.m. Monday in the 1300 block of South Loomis outside the ABLA/Brooks Homes, a CTA housing facility, in the University Village neighborhood. Four others were also shot — one of them fatally.
“I don’t know the length of time (he was under the sheet) but from what my understanding of the incident is — that individual has a catastrophic injury,” CPD Deputy Supt. Anthony Riccio said Monday at a news conference at police headquarters held to discuss weekend violence.
The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Over the years there have been fuckin' riots because a body has been left on the street.
I remember about 15 years ago in 025 over 100 coppers were on the scene because of one of these incidents.

I have always been in favor of CFD taking all bodies, whether dead or alive. Leaving the body at the scene just agitates the family/friends of the deceased and makes it tougher to keep the scene secure.

Five people shot and all the yelling, screaming, crying and falling out by the "did'n see nuth'n" witnesses added to all the people and vehicles and raised voices from multiple agencies on scene makes for a very confusing and complicated set of circumstances. The paramedics had their hands full. They do not deserve to be criticized. It could have happened to any of us. Besides, he is far from the first one who miraculously returned to life and he will not be the last.
If I remember reading the article correctly, “victim” had multiple GSWs to the head - even if he breathes on life support, this dude might as well be known as Mr. Broccoli brains. I would suggest we just don’t allow bodies to be covered. We only do it out of respect for the family anyways and they hate us anyways. CFD still has to triage. Also, I like the idea of bringing the bodies to be pronounced at the hospitals. It will create a greater financial burden and let the medical staff see the amount of death we do. The. The shitheads will increase their lawsuits claiming doctors fucked up and failed to save their poor 25 year old son, whom they haven’t seen’t since the age of 8.

The first arriving paramedics perform "triage", the French word for sorting. If one of the victims appear at first assessment to be DOA they move on to other patients.
If upon the 2nd and more thorough assessment the patient was alive then medical care was initiated.
The CFD paramedics did everything by the book, but that won't stop the grievance mongers from seeking their million dollar ghetto lottery paycheck that they know Rahm will be all to happy to write.

In a "regular" shooting, moving the body quickly is a good idea. Let the community see an ambulance take the body away thinking that they are doing something. (downside tying up an ambulance which is not available for other service) Not much forensic evidence if any, will be lost. In a police shooting, if you move the body before complete forensic processing there will be screams of tampering with the crime scene to cover up police misconduct.

In respect to the paramedics, there is a condition called "Signs Incompatible With Life" where medics are not required to work on/transport a patient. This covers injuries so severe that the patient cannot reasonably be expected to be alive, such as brains all over the place, head outright missing, etc. It's not like they covered someone who appeared readily viable, but some lawyer will raise a stink.

I understand the theory of evidence and protecting the crime scene. These street gun murders are not going to be solved by a hair falling from the offender onto the victim. Remove the body and there will be a peaceful follow up.

Guaranteed his pupils were fixed and dilated with no reflexes and brain death test was being done with Gift of Hope being notified. Media playing it up like there was fuckery going on. I firmly believe the body should be removed from the scene by CFD. Never has it benefited the investigation of a crime scene where the security of the officers and detectives becomes primary.
The first responding officers note the position, direction of head to north, face down face up etc....primary evidence being spent casings and any damage to surrounding property,video and witnesses.
Examination of the body noting angles can be done more accurately at a hospital setting.
Edgewood community forced her out. Good riddance to very bad garbage.

Clearly not a police officer. Here’s why: crowds form and break through crime scene tape. We have to physically keep them out or evidence is destroyed and we can get in trouble for not challenging those seeking to contaminate a crime scene. People get in your face, yell, scream, clench their fists, make sudden movements as if they’re going to attack or just plain volatile. How the fuck are we to know who has a gun on them, who might retaliate, etc. no one respects the police anymore- there is zero fear left. Others threaten to kill police and then slip into the crowd. You’ll just say, “so what, it’s your job to be yelled at, just laugh it off and stay professional.” Fuck you. Assault is making someone fear they will be battered. I never liked people getting in my face. Before this job that meant there is 100% chance of a fight. Clenching fists, jaw muscles are indicators someone will attack you. Since the D-unit to no fault of its own isn't going to solve a lot of these homicides anyway, they should 100% of the time take every body off the street. It does nothing but elicit a negative reaction and makes us fight a war with people we don't need to. Just collect the brass, collect the "i didn't see shit" statements, suspend the case, and move on to the next one.

In the surreal insanity of the modern day as a Chicago Police Officer I unfortunately was trapped at the predominantly Black on Black shooting insanity at 47th Street a week ago. My family has known REAL unspeakable sadness and extreme horror but yet I was BLAMED by the most ignorant tribal group of morons I have ever met blaming White Police for "assassinating" an innocent Black Scholar for no reason at all. I am numbed by the fact that Black America has descended into a misinformed genocidal machine. I'm still waiting for the media to report that the whole situation was Black on Black. Sad very sad

I firmly believe the body should be removed from the scene by CFD. Never has it benefited the investigation of a crime scene where the security of the officers and detectives becomes primary.
The first responding officers note the position, direction of head to north, face down face up etc....primary evidence being spent casings and any damage to surrounding property,video and witnesses.
Examination of the body noting angles can be done more accurately at a hospital setting.

You want a reward to produce? Just keep doing what the Sgt, Lt, Watch Commander and Commander keep TELLING you to do and you will reap your reward, which usually is being sued. If it's not in writing, DON'T DO IT!

So true, I do nothing except respond to my calls,back up brothers and sisters in blue, will not be stupid enough to jeopardize mine or my families future with this stupidity!
