- Black Americans are not more likely to be shot by the police than White Americans in proportion to each group's rate of interaction with the police, as measured by crime rate, a new study argues.
The report, by psychologists Joseph Cesario and David Johnson and criminologist William Terrill, analyzes trends in fatal shootings by police in 2015 and 2016 using a variety of data sources.
Measuring racial disparities in police use of force is a touchy subject. High-profile shootings of black men by police have been a focal point for Blacks Lives Matter and similar groups, which see such shootings as both endemic of larger police abuses and an epidemic in their own right.
The study takes on the nonsense statistic that since blacks make up 13% of the population then they should account for 13% of tickets, offenders, prison population and (of course) police shooting encounters. The authors blow a large hole in the waterline of that argument...but they also realize such an inflammatory finding won't endear them to the establishment that has a vested interest in continuing the political theater. It's still a mildly interesting read.

I get nervous whenever they say we should have mental health check ups for firearms ownership. I'm not 11 years old nor am I a millenial, I remember because I'm an old fart that pays attention. The old Soviet Union, that paragon of world socialism used to send people to the psychiatrist when they had the temerity to disagree with or point out problems with the communist system of governance there. When you have a stereotype to uphold, you know, young black men are cool, play ball well and are bad asses. Well, you revel in the bad boy stereotype as long as it gets you the girls and respect on the street, but it also gets you into trouble since part of that tough guy appearance is a take no shit from no one and you can't make me do nuthin. And then you get jammed up. Bad asses have more interactions with the police and we never meet no one that's havin a good day. When the wolf tangles with the sheep dog someone gets hurt and there's no guarantee it's gonna be the bad guy.

I do not know of any or any of my colleagues do not know of any fire fighter organizations that on her only their race that were killed in the line of duty this further separates the firefighters who lived together sleep in the same house this kind of reeks of racism possibly?

That methodology is "misguided" because it 'assumes' everyone in that 13% is committing crimes. And they 'ain't'.
That 13% includes everyone. Women, Men, Kids 18 years old and younger, and Seniors 65 and over. And we know all those folks aren't out there Slingin' Dope, committing Robberies, and Killing Folks (and people). Black women are 50% of that 13% and Kids & Seniors make up another couple percent (I went to the latest census data for the numbers).
Granted, things are changing and younger kids are getting involved in shit and so are women and girls. But all those things considered, you get to Black Males between 19 and 64, the 'prime age' for committing crime and their number is roughly 4.5%.
So forget 13%, it's only 4.5% of the US population who is committing 51% of all Murders, 54% of Robberies, and 36% of all violent crime (per latest FBI Stats).
So should the CPD and all other government positions nationwide hire only 13% of blacks? They’d shit bricks.

Male blacks commit an exponential number of violent crimes while making up only 6% of the population. I'm surprised the number being shot by Poleec isn't much higher than it is.

Following their logic then:
Blacks should be 13% of the NBA and NFL.
In fact blacks do make up a little over 13% of the population. But not all segments of that demographic commit crimes at the same rate. Seldom do we arrest <10 year olds, or people who are 60 and older.
Here is what I mean. Lets say that 7% of the population are black males. We know that black males are responsible for over 50% of the homicides committed in this county. It would be inaccurate to deduct that 7% of the population are the culprit in over 50% of the homicides. That's because that 7% represents all black males, and crime is not evenly distributed over that population.
Most violent crimes are committed by males between the ages of 17 to 35 year old. So I would think that about 2% of the population of black males compose that cohort are responsible for the majority of homicides.
Now is it any surprise that this group is the most violent demographic in the population and also are those that are most frequently shot by the police?
the article does not present any truly useful information. just some percentages that don't mean much by themselves without knowing where the underlying data came from, or anything about the raw data. and you have to pay to get the full story. so i would say while it might mean what it purports to mean, it might not either.
police deaths due to murder are at near record lows. the "war on cops" is not working out all that well for whomever it is that is at war with cops.
