- Neighbors in Lawndale said gun violence is so bad, they have to hide their children inside. There are calls for help after two suspects fired into a crowd of children playing basketball. The shooting wounded three children and one adult. People living in the neighborhood are desperate for help and want action from police, the mayor or even the feds.
And what form would this help take?
- Some residents say the problem is much bigger than finding the suspects in this one shooting. And they will keep their kids inside until they see more police outside. “It’s time for the police to walk the street like they used to,” said Mason.

I don't blame the police for not doing a thing in black areas. Answer the calls, write a report and drive away. Late 70's - early 80's - 100 homicides a year in 014. I don't remember any chickenshit protest marches. The easiest homicide, in a bar in dogpatch, Mexican guy stabs another. Stabbed guy went to his car and retrieved his 1911 .45 cal pistol, goes back and shoots the guy who stabbed him. Both DOA. Very short case report, detectives didn't get much OT if at all.

OT- So the Commander of 007 came to roll call the other day to “smooth” over the Consent Decree. First after crying the the street Deputy was the one who supposed to come and talk, starts off with talking about best tags. He said if you lose a beat tag it will be a day off. Then he goes into his speech about how the decree won’t be that bad. Great speech there Commander. Now let us go out and give you your numbers. Hahahaha. And onto about the beat tag. So let me get this straight if I get into an auto accident and smash up the $40.000 squad car I’ll get a reprimand but if I accidentally lose a $8 piece of plastic I’ll take a day. Went to Midway last night to pick up a traveler coming home on leave from abroad.
I was DISGUSTED with the Bad Attitudes of the (entirely) "community" workers in the arrivals pick up area. Grouchy, frowning, uncaring, unhelpful, downright rude people USED to be FIRED for acting like jackwagons who simply refuse to DO THEIR JOBS.
A pathetic way to Represent what was once a Great City. Shame on every one of them and shame on their bosses for allowing them to act that way toward paying customers. FFS, those people have hard to get jobs that are well paying for simple straightforward customer service labor. And they act like they couldn't care about their jobs or the people they are there to direct to the right places.
A TSA test, heck a CPD test of security would be national news based on the PATHETIC work ethic of these people. They made me ashamed to be a Illinoisan based on the impression - often a first one- that people get just trying to get out of Midway Airport. It was so ridiculous I had to wonder if it was even real.
Don't believe me, well, take a stroll down yonder and see for yourself!
Johnny Jihad and Achmed imagonnajiad could play terrorism bomb games and none of them would bother to even TRY to see it coming, much less deal with getting good and decent innocent travlers where they need to go. Dangerous Stupidity because of reckless disregard is a solvable problem. Those in charge should be taken to task, forthrightly and immediately.
Not everyone in the west and south side hate the police. I get calls all the time and I explain what is happening. Some in the community see the fault of there own but lack the courage to say something. They have to step up and defend our actions if they want real police service.
