No Parole for You

  • Last January, Illinois inmate Dewayne Roby won the rarest of endorsements.

Seeking parole after four decades in prison for a murder, rape and robbery he committed as a 16-year-old, Roby won the vote of Illinois Prisoner Review Board member Peter Fisher.

In more than three years on the board, Fisher has voted against parole 160 times and in favor just once, according to an Injustice Watch review of the board’s parole votes since January 2013. Roby, now 57, was the only prisoner whose petition for parole got his support.

Fisher is the least likely member of the Illinois Prisoner Review Board to vote for parole but not the only one to routinely lean against release. Several of the board members typically vote against releasing any of the roughly 120 prisoners who are locked up for crimes committed more than 40 years ago, before Illinois law was changed to largely abolish parole. Eight current board members have voted to deny parole in about four of every five cases heard since 2013.
No idea why he decided to break his streak -we're all for prisoners dying behind bars if they have time left to serve. But the state needs a few people like this who adhere to the rule of law.

If there is gonna be no death penalty then they gotta stay in prison for their life, all of it, every last day.

No need for parole when 1/2 is all you serve in most cases. Thats if you get charged in the first place. If you are the right shade then it's a built in Get out Jail Card.

He has been in Prison since he was sixteen.

DuWayne will probably end up like those guys you hear about from time to time. They get out, freak out, and decide to go back. Hopefully Like the guy that robbed the bank, and sat down on the curb waiting for the cops to show up, Not like the guy that murders some poor neighbors in a fit of rage. I think he might be the latter based on his record.

This is the opening shot of the media/activist campaign to get him off the parole board and replaced with someone more sympathetic from the "community"

My personal rule for parole of murderers - unless you can miraculously bring the victim back from the grave, then the murderer stays in prison. No possible reason you can think otherwise, unless you’re full of sh*t.

Carry on.

Hopefully, Peter Fisher will continue to vote "NO" on behalf of cop-killers who continue to come up in front of the IPRB.
So sorry for the families that have to endure and relive the accounts of the murder of their loved ones in order to keep these offenders in jail per their original sentence.

A commonsense approach to parole or over medicated at the hearing?
My opinion : Fisher was appointed by Gov Rauner, Rauner probably tied to one of the grant grabbing foundations that’s tied to Injustice Watch.
What’s Happening?
This is politics, not compassion.
Any hoot,
now that Dewayne is out maybe he can hook up with Raj and Rerun.

What I would like to know is who did the bad ass bad boy rape, rob and murder? Was it the downstate UIC student found behind the substation along the Eisenhower which I think about once in a while as I go by because I can still find outrage in my heart as I do for that Wilson pile of shit. Laurie somebody as I recall. Any old time Area 4 guys remember? I am not a cop but I find it amusing on the A&E and ID shows especially the First 48 that the cops do excellent work and the courts fuck it all up by sentencing dude to a life term but he is eligible for parole in six years. Just what the hell is that crap? And it is not Crook County where that stupid shit is the norm. Can anyone help me understand?

Pretty expensive to keep them there. At some point you have to let out some of them to make room for worse criminals.

The Record indicates Mr. Roby is 52 years old and has served approximately 36 years in the Department of Corrections. Mr. Roby was convicted and sentenced to 25 to 75 years for Murder; 10 to 20 years for Rape (which was later overturned by the Appellate Court), and 5 to 15 years for Robbery. He was also convicted twice while in IDOC for Aggravated Battery against a Correctional Officer in 1987 for which he was sentenced to 4 years, consecutive, and Aggravated Battery in 1989 for which he received a 2 year sentence, consecutive. The inmate was convicted for Murder which occurred on August 3, 1977. He robbed a tenant in his apartment building, then stabbed her multiple times in the chest, and attempted to rape her. He was unsuccessful in the rape, which resulted in that sentence being overturned by the Appellate Court. He fled the scene, but left a bloody fingerprint behind. The victim also had multiple defensive wounds to her hands and arms. After questioning residents of the area, they were led to the inmate who was heard to say he “needed money and would kill somebody for it”. He confessed upon arrest, and also admits to his 2 additional aggravated battery charges against Correctional Officers at Pontiac and Menard.
