What a bunch of assholes are working over at the Tribune. A few days ago, we pointed out that MoperahLite had taken an open field shot at the CPD for doing great police work and making Kimesha Foxxx look good with a double conviction in the Pendleton murder by invoking the specter of "Burge!"
Then two days later, they point out the single arrest after 75 people (and folks) got shot earlier in August (see our post directly under this one) and then post this editorial bullshit:

The simpler imperative is solving crimes when they occur, but Chicago falls woefully short on this obligation too. Last year, the Chicago Police Department solved only about 17 percent of the homicides committed. The clearance rate, as it’s called, for nonfatal shootings was an abysmal 5 percent.
[...] To prevent and solve crimes, CPD needs to be seen as a trustworthy community presence and partners. This has not been the reality in Chicago, where many minority residents fear the police because of the department’s troubling record of tolerating excess force and abusive behavior. Ending the pattern starts with City Hall completing its agreement to give a federal judge oversight of reforms to supervision, training and accountability.
Wait - didn't you morons just allow MoperahLite to obliquely slander the CPD Detectives because one happened to be among maybe 400 detectives who worked at the same time "Burge!" did? How does that help build any sort of trust? Or is that what is actually eroding trust?
"Burge!" was fired in 1993. Something like three-fifths of the current Department wasn't even on the job when "Burge!" was fired. Around one-fourth weren't even born. How are they supposed to bear any responsibility for "Burge!"? Does the absence of reporting these facts somehow erode trust?
As for the editorial board claiming, "Chicago’s long roster of shooting victims, most of them minorities," we're already had our stat people show those numbers to be (A) vastly perpetrated by other minorities and (B) barely 1.3% shot by the police. And that 1.29% that the police shot, the Tribune offers no numbers to show how many were (A) armed, (B) shooting at the police or (C) in the act of shooting/maiming someone else. Is that eroding trust, too?
How about being part of the solution instead of perpetuating the problem? Of course, that might involve putting a muzzle on the "po' po' pitiful me" chorus from these no-talent racist hacks who write for your rags.

Your thread exemplifies the reason I do not subscribe to either the Suntimes or the Tribune. Both papers have long been biased and slanted to a point where they are not worth reading.
As to "the solution" for Chicago violence. STOP coddling criminals. Start questioning AND removing judges who won't impose stiff fines and penalties.
Carjacking should be a capital offense. Horse thieves were hung in the 1800s, car thieves should suffer the same fate. This punishment would eradicate this crime very quickly.
And while we're at it, end this Sanctuary City nonsense. Before money is spent on illegals, it should be spent on veterans.
There is not one news outlet in Chicago that will print the truth about the gun violence. The fact that it is the minority communities that are killing themselves somehow escapes them. It's the cops fault for not stopping these shooters but when they do it's the cops fault. Tribune writers must think police work is like the tv shows: every job pretty much involves a bad guy with a gun. In truth, there are thousands of interactions daily that go perfectly fine and most of those interactions are actually caused by the community calling for the police to come to them. Is there distrust of the police? Sure. But the majority of the people in the community trust the police more then their own community members. But the Tribune will never actually go into neighborhoods, go into a CAPS meeting where people praise the police. That would take effort. Hell, Eric Zorn helped frame a member of the community for murder to let an actual murderer back on the street. You think the community thought that was a positive step?
Burge was suspended pending separation in December 1990, 28 years ago. I doubt that there are very many current police officers who have ever met him, much less served under him.
Slavery and Jim Crow, while an important part of this country's history, are long gone. Those that claim otherwise, for whatever reasons, are LYING. Yet, they are still being used as a crutch by some for the black community's failures. Add "BURGE!" to this list of excuses for low expectations. Short of reparations, which some are still clamoring for, more has been done to redress these past grievances than all other social programs combined. "No one ever said a homicide interrogation was supposed to be a day full of sunshine and roses. It's a day of asking questions, hard questions based upon probable cause, witness statements, evidence. Detectives talk to the suspects to give them a chance to account for why they may have been named or identified as possible offenders. They take down what suspects say and then they go out and investigate some more to gather more evidence not only as to their guilt, but as to their possible innocence -- THE TRUTH IS THE GOAL. Bullshit stories are proven wrong and those who provide them are confronted. Eventually, the lies don't stand, suspects weigh their options and try to mitigate their involvement, "I didn't shoot anyone, I was just there, the gun just went off, I just wanted to scare him."
The sessions are held in private rooms, not poolside at the Hyatt-Regency as much a to protect those from being seen talking to the police as to provide an atmosphere of focus. The detectives share the stink and the heat and the sweat. They work hard and they know they are recorded and that every single thing they say and do is part of a video that will be scrutinized possibly all the way to the Supreme Court.
Why do they do it? Why don't they just give the suspect his rights and tell him/her to shut up? They don't get anything more if a suspect confesses. The bosses know that these cases are hard and the States Attorney keeps setting the bar higher and higher to get charges approved. Why not just take the easy way out? They don't get promoted or extra money if they solve a homicide. All they get is jeopardy that threatens their careers, their reputations and their very freedom. So why do they do it?
They do it because that is their oath, their job, their calling. Because they choose to speak for Hadiya who no longer has a voice. They do it to try to give a family who has no voice in a criminal justice system that favors the defendant a measure of justice. That's what good detectives do Dahleen, they do the "ugly" work of gathering evidence to include witness statements in these ugly homicides. That's what they've been doing for years, within the framework of the law, sitting with suspects in stinking rooms, running all over the city to find the truth in spite of the jeopardy they are placed into. All this without laying a hand on anyone. Think about it. See, confessions could be gotten without touching anyone, without mental "torture", all within the law. Maybe that's what they've done all these years and maybe they should be given the respect and gratitude they deserve, instead of being fall guys for the money machine."

Understand, the Far Left Radical, Clarence Page has been in control of Tribune content for many years. Page has led the Tribune to write shameful articles regarding veterans, the Police and anyone who does not agree with his far left agenda. Page and his fellow communists have ruined the Tribune. Covering other common nicknames (Sparklefarts?) would help. Also, there are good reporters doing yeomans work regarding crime in Chicago. If you are not aware of Maggio news ( dba Bloody Chicago) on You Tube, I would suggest that you invest 10 minutes to peruse his reports. He deserves a shout out. He does not deliver the standard boilerplate pablum found in the MSM, he looks much deeper and does not crap on the CPD. In fact he is damn supportive. Anyway, keep up the good work and God Bless.

The papers were a total waste but I'm concerned about the bias shown by local news on broadcast stations who always castigate Trump and the CPD, and personal responsibility as a whole. Yes, the homicide clearance rate in Chicago is about 1/3 the national average. But, I would wonder what it would be if you eliminated the many variables that some other cities do not contend with? Here, ever interviews are taped. Is that happening everywhere? The media can't wait to criticize some detective because he raised his voice or talked harshly to some suspect. Witnesses can't be held for any length of time in an effort to get them to cooperate. And, even holding a suspect for 24 hours is being slammed as being coercive. Finally add the poor leadership that politics and phony merit promotions add to the mix and the critical shortage of detectives that has plagued the department for decades. Yes, I think it is about time someone from the outside, a chief of detectives from a city that has a good clearance rate, come to this town and take over. Staples should go.

Little league, school sports for the kids, block parties not to mention the theater, entertainment and sports venues. I can leave anytime I want but decided to stay with about 2 million others. Young people from the suburbs are moving in all the time and enjoying the neighborhoods

They don't get promoted or extra money if they solve a homicide. All they get is jeopardy that threatens their careers, their reputations and their very freedom. So why do they do it?
They do it because that is their oath, their job, their calling. Because they choose to speak for Hadiya who no longer has a voice. They do it to try to give a family who has no voice in a criminal justice system that favors the defendant a measure of justice. That's what good detectives do Dahleen, they do the "ugly" work of gathering evidence to include witness statements in these ugly homicides. That's what they've been doing for years, within the framework of the law, sitting with suspects in stinking rooms, running all over the city to find the truth in spite of the jeopardy they are placed into. All this without laying a hand on anyone. Think about it. See, confessions could be gotten without touching anyone, without mental "torture", all within the law. Maybe that's what they've done all these years and maybe they should be given the respect and gratitude they deserve, instead of being fall guys for the money machine."

Because of the hands-off policies generated by the aforementioned, the communities that need policing the most, are getting much less. Less policing has increased violence and the threat of violence within these communities. It ironic to see what the community and their leaders have demanded and got, taking proactive policing out of the equation. They've created lawlessness the likes Chicago has never seen, causing the Chicago Police to be restricted from doing their job, protecting the citizens of Chicago. It's not only my opinion, but the black community in Chicago is responsible for creating an ineffective Police Force from protecting all of us. Now Chicagoans are suffering, by following this ignorance and stupidity generated by a false narrative of a corrupt hypotheses.

I get a big charge out of the fact that while the papers print what they want you to know and to think, you tell your readers what is happening and challenge your readers to think about what is going on. And the mainstream media's views are not to be challenged or debated. You cannot point out that the emperor has no clothes, or the narrative they set out is specious. Comments are not allowed. Here, ideas are exchanged and debated, and most postings have scores of comments, some expanding on your observations.

What do you have against the carnival? I just got promoted to the "Guess Your Weight" booth and I am the under-study Tilt-A-Whirl operator. And, the bearded lady kind of likes me. If I squint, she does not look half-bad. Plus, I get to travel. Life is good. It beats working a beat car on the midnights. Now, let me guess. You're a healthy one. I'd say you go about 225?
Maybe they do all the retired detective says they just don't do it very well. Do the math on homicide detectives at best they are working two new cases each, given the 350+ killed. Not overworked by any measure. Just not very effective. So much for the value of merit promotions. They need a tough leader to hold their feet to the fire, results or you are back in patrol or undesirable shifts or areas less critical then homicides. Accountability is totally lacking from top down. Other forces deal with the same problems and seem to overcome the problems and have at least twice the results the CPD has cranked out the last several years. Like the sign on the Bosch show says get off your ads and knock on some doors, the answers are on the street not your comfortable computer cubicle.

Not true. ERI came about in 2005, the last of the alleged “Burge guys” retired in May of 2017, and they were getting confessions on video right up to the week they left.
The last of the Burge boy left Homicides and went G/A when ERI came about. Look around. If they were getting confessions in 2017, then why is the clearance rate so low? Why are there so many overturned sentencings? Why are detectives still fighting lawsuit during their retirement?

Chicago is a long way from becoming a death trap. Some people actually like it here and enjoy their neighbors and neighborhood. Little league, school sports for the kids, block parties not to mention the theater, entertainment and sports venues. I can leave anytime I want but decided to stay with about 2 million others. Young people from the suburbs are moving in all the time and enjoying the neighborhoods

The Chicago Police Training Academy is named for Officer O'Connor.
Officer O'conner is an unsung hero, sorry to tell you , but the academy is named after timothy J. O'conner the past police superintendant. This boss died in the 60's.
