If Illinois is looking to save money, here's a place to start cutting:
- Predatory funeral homes have been accused of cashing in on Chicago’s relentless crime wave by taking advantage of a taxpayer-funded scheme that pays $7,500 in funeral expenses for homicide victims’ families.
Advocates have accused some funeral directors of inflating prices or charging families for services they never received.
“Every funeral home in the state knows that victims get $7,500 for a funeral and it’s their goal to charge the entire amount because it’s easy money,” Susan Johnson, executive director of Chicago Survivors, told Fox News.
Johnson, whose organization helps people who have lost loved ones to homicide, claims some zero in on people receiving money from the Illinois Crime Victim’s Compensation fund.

You can find listings for campaign contributions by going to the Illinois Bd. of elections website. It is time consuming as sometimes the contributions are listed under the business name, a corporation or in this case the owners or employees as individuals using home addresses. You can use Illinois cyberdrive to find corporations and owners or agents.

a full service funeral today costs in the area of 10 grand. But, I don't think the state should pay a dime unless the victim's family is either poor or has no insurance. And, to the poster who objects to mental health treatment for Illinois prisoners, it is a fact that a large percentage of convicts have mental health problems that have been untreated because of no insurance, a problem for many in this country. More mental health treatment and more drug rehab in this country would go a long way to making a police officer's job easier.

When I worked for the ME funeral directors would grease up staff for family info of the deceased. If they got the funeral the ME employee would get a substantial cash stipend.
Limit bodies to cremation only and less than $1,000 for funeral expenses!

There is no such thing as a funeral home which ISN'T predatory.
Some Funeral Directors take advantage of the families of the bereaved at a time when the families are least likely to be able to make informed decisions.
The reality is that they will charge as much as they can.
There is NO SUCH THING as a "cheap" funeral.
To the Directors, it's "just another job".
To the families of the bereaved it is THEIR loved one.
