Conviction....and a Media Hit Job

  • A Cook County jury on Thursday found suspected gunman Micheail Ward guilty in the 2013 slaying of 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton in a bungled attempt at retaliating against rival gang members.

The guilty verdict comes a day after a separate jury convicted co-defendant Kenneth Williams, the suspected getaway driver, in the fatal shooting of the honors student and majorette about a week after she performed at President Barack Obama’s second inaugural festivities.
Great news, right? Cops put together a tight case, Foxxx actually gets two convictions for once, everyone should be happy, right?

Not over at the Tribune, where Mope-rahLite has to run with her narrow-minded police hating agenda by claiming legal interrogation techniques are mean and tricky....and bringing up Jon Burge:
  • Rarely does the public get to see what goes on behind closed doors when the police are attempting to get a suspect to talk. The make-believe scenes in “Law & Order” pale in comparison to what happens in real life. The yelling, cursing, intimidation, emotional manipulation and lying that detectives routinely employ is too uncomfortable for most of us to watch.

I cringed as I watched the video recording in court Tuesday. At the same time, I wondered where we would be if police weren’t given some leeway in getting to the bottom of a crime. In Chicago, where hundreds of people are murdered each year, it isn’t easy to criticize the police for doing whatever it takes to bring justice. Gangbangers lie, and they must be treated like the hardened criminals they are. That does not mean police shouldn’t be held accountable, though.

There is no excuse for officers like notorious Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge, who beat, electrocuted and otherwise tortured more than 100 mostly African-American suspects between 1972 and 1991 in order to gain confessions. One of the officers interrogating Ward was now-retired Detective John Halloran, who once worked under Burge’s supervision. The jury wasn’t informed of that.
Keep in mind there were ZERO allegations of physical abuse, the entire process was videotaped, and the detective was one of hundreds who worked when Burge was employed. As far as we know, he has never been named in a court proceeding involving Burge, who is being used as some sort of boogeyman even while he hasn't been on the job for decades. The mere mention of his name is supposed to free guilty assholes by the truckload.

Glanton completely overlooks the 15-year-old victim, the family of Pendleton, even the elephant in the courtroom - black gangs firing into a crowd of black people in the hopes of picking off other black gangsters - all to get in her jabs at the Chicago Police Department.

How sad it must be to be such a mentally-stunted individual defined by a narrow worldview that doesn't allow you to congratulate professional law enforcement for a job well done in getting justice for a girl who just wanted to grow up.

Just for the record and sake of argument, has any of this ever been proven beyond a reasonable doubt?

I bet she'd be all for the electrocutions and phone book beatings if the suspect was a white murder suspect. C'mon people, this isn't 1980 or 1990 any more. That was 28 to 38 years ago. You moved the goal posts, you changed the rules and the only ones following them are cops. Restrain the cops a little more and maybe you can push that clearance rate down to 1 or 2%. I thought black lives mattered?

Jack Halloran didnt need a paper or pen. He could interview six different witnesses, keep it all straight, and confront the offender who had absolutely no where to turn. The best I have ever seen. Confessions are always great to have, but lets give a shout out to the absolute badass prosecutors who tried the case. I know them and they were always meticulously prepared.

Burge was the one time commander of a unit consisting of over 400 people. I work in a district that has 310 officers. In the 3 years that my current commander has been in charge of our district I have met him once, worked with him zero times and have actually seen him about 10 times... or less. Yes, I work under our current commander but he has no clue who I am I’m sure.. just like I’m sure burge had no clue who worked for him. They make it like all 400 people who worked for him were all best friends. Hell, when this detective JH was there at the same time as burge JH had prob 5 years on the job which means he was an absolute nobody and was just another guy in the unit as we all are now. We don’t pick our bosses, we just have to work for them.

This is the only reason this was a "heater" case
There were several other teens as well as a 3 year old murdered in the city during January 2015 but nary a mention about them nor their families since

If Ms Glanton is so concerned about interrogation techniques maybe she can lead the effort to have these young men freed. I'm sure the "community" would be overjoyed

Rumors abound sting that it was observed that foxxy kim was allegedly observed crying in the hall way of the court house. People believing that she was crying because of the verdict were later baffled when she/foxxy was allegedly overheard saying how could a dead girl mess up the future of two promisising young man. That she be damned if it happened again.

Murder arrest rate in the toilet because while the community screams for help, for justice, when it is their son, their brother, their baby's daddy doing the killing- they don't care! The community knows who is doing the killing, the shooting, the drug-dealing......and in order for it to STOP, those responsible need to be put away.....arrested, locked up, kept away from those in the community who really are just trying to get along, live their lives with some semblance of peace......

Obama had a chance to make a difference......but instead of doing that, he chose to demonize the police right from the get-go....from the professor breaking into his own house incident, to Trayvon, to Michael Brown......and this has brought us to where we are today. So for all the "journalists" out there - citing unproven "facts" of a bygone era- maybe, if you're such brilliant "journalists", try to solve some of those thousands of murders on the books from the last couple years.....you got the ear of the community.....you think you know how police work should be done.....go for it.....solve a few, give up a shooter, call in a tip or a clue.....

But in the meantime, don't negate the Pendleton case with your nonsense.....that little girl and her family deserved the verdicts they just got....

Sadly police are put under the microscope while those actually committing crimes are allowed back into society to keep inflicting mayhem. No one writes about that.

Going to get warm again this weekend. Praying for all police to come home safely.

The entire staff at the fibune are so full of shit, it defies belief. The most amazing thing is everyone of them, with the occasional exception of Kass, actually believe their own bullshit. And pure bullshit it is. That, and democommie propaganda. There was once a time when when "newspapers" contained a series of impartial facts, and there was a section for opinion. Now opinion, aka bullshit, permeates every single page. Articles like the one by the aforementioned retardate, (and others) are supplemented by the editorial page containing not only the lies and propaganda of the papers own staff of idiots, but an assortment of the same tripe from all across the country. and don't forget the "great thoughts" from readers who parrot the democommie line. There needs to be a class action against journalism schools for foisting on the public useful idiots for the anti-American bastards who employ them, who are incapable of an impartial analytical thought.

I confess to being a dinosaur who still gets a paper edition of the tribune. Yeah, I can read, what was once a Republican publication on my computer screen, but coffee, juice and cereal all pose a threat to my keyboard.
However, I have learned that, even when her columns headline appears to be a reasonable stance, it ALWAYS takes a left turn and becomes a police bashing piece of garbage. Solution? I never read her any longer, EVER!
Yes, I could quit the paper entirely, the the good outweighs the bad, and I won't let bad one column ruin my morning. I'll add that I also usually skip Greene, Zorn, Clarence, Schmich also. They usually have opinions I don't share and we all know what is said about opinions. Even the op-ed pieces by the trib have turned to the left as well. So, a paragraph or two in, or just the headline itself, lets me skip them also.
Breakfast requires a newspaper and the Wall Street Journal is afternoon reading material.

The Cook County Office of States Activism went all out on this case.
Even charging an accomplice with murder.
Even convicting on a charges of Felon with a Gun.

This had little to do with the CPD and all the efforts leading to the arrest.
It’s what happens when you have the obama administration getting involved in a 5 year old case.

Any other murderers, gun toting shooters would get a Cook County KimmFxxup Free Pass.

Badass prosecutors? Sorry but the defense didn't have a chance. The fix was done long ago. That poor girl was at the president's swearing in, she was killed by the president's home, the president's wife went to the wake, and the media has played all that up. Those prosecutors are good and Jack had them dead to rights but this was a done deal. No way was Preckwinkle and her Cook County administration or the mayor's office going to let these two guys get away with murder.

No? What is the conviction rate Cook County? How many cases even get to trial? And those that do what are the sentences being handed out?

Dahleen Glanton hates white people, plain and simple. She is employed by the Tribune for the same reason the NY Times hired that Korean woman, Sarah Jeong.

It is fashionable in the Marxist media to hate on white people and call it liberalism.

Real liberals like Daniel Patrick Moynihan must be spinning in their graves. Go read Moynihan from 50+ years ago, Ms. Glanton. You can't handle the truth.

One of Glanton's sickest columns lately was the one saying that 70% black births to unmarried women wasn't so bad. That stupidity is what creates the stupid young monsters in your community. CPD (white, black, brown, and yellow) then gets stuck with the aftermath, day after day.

Entirely missing from the Trib article is whether the confession was reliable. That's a word being used in the "legal" sense but I mean whether this kid in the interview gave up details that only the shooter would know. If he did, the admission is reliable; if not, could be a shitty confession. Over the years I've seen too many guys getting an erection with an "I did it" and then forgetting/failing to sew it up with the details. The Trib fell all over itself over the interrogation with no mention of whether the confession was reliable. While pissing and moaning over interrogation techniques the Trib never answered the question of whether they got the right guy. That didn't stop them from implying misconduct, though.

I'm also not terribly surprised by this. Too many reporters now are inexperienced and naive. It used to be where cub reporters cut their teeth on the police beat and got a chance to see how things really are on the streets. Some of them got to be as good as some cops. Now it's hit and run at best and far too often ignorance like this. Adding to this: news coming from department talking heads instead of reporters on the street.
