It Never Disappears

So it turns out that the City, in violation of State Law (and written Department Orders) is NOT erasing any of the body cam videos.

It's supposed to be destroyed after 90 days if there's nothing of evidentiary or disciplinary in nature. But it seems that there is a backlog of videos rapidly approaching 100,000 recorded incidents that are not associated with any particular incident or event number. There is also no mechanism in place to review and attach the recordings to a police response.

Don't worry - in 50 years, the City will be releasing these like they're releasing 50-year-old CR records that should have been destroyed 43 years ago.

Perhaps the FOP could look out for it’s members and bring a lawsuit against the city? Or is that expecting too much?

Thank You for pointing this out! Wow, Calling FOP.

Who’s paying for all that data storage? I’m gonna start recording all of my dumps. Probably be the most action they will find on my bwc.

Anyone who seriously believed that the video would be erased was either naive, or memory impaired. Remember when they promised that any CR that was unfounded or exonerated would be removed from your file? Then the Police Hating Media published everyone's CRs going back to the 1960s! Lies like this impact on Morale, and create an environment that is not conducive to faith in an employer. But wait, tomorrow a new Firestorm for CPD will surface, and it is already #3 on Twitter. CPD left a bait trailer filled with Nike shoes in "Da Hood", and the inhabitants "fount" it and confronted the officers on video. THE ACLU IS NOW INVOLVED, AND THE COMMUNITY SEZ IT BEES RACIST AND ENTRAPMENT. I guess only Black people steal Nike products. Would it have been Racist and Entrapment if the truck contained soccer balls and was left in say, Little Village? Or what if it was a truck containing say the Greatest Works of English Literature, and it was parked at U of C; would that be Racist against Whites? The Black churches and leadership have FAILED to protect their community, and they, with their comrades at ACLU and the Media will take any opportunity to attack CPD. BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH, NOBODY WAS SHOT OR KILLED LAST WEEKEND BY POLICE, THE NARRATIVE REMAINS THE SAME:"THE POLICE ARE THE PROBLEM!" Watch out for each other, Rahm has your back. Baby "G"

They actually tell you during rollcall training to go over your videos and see if you can figure out which videos are important and associate event numbers to those videos to help the “magical system “

It is only a matter of time until some bodycam footage is released or stolen/hacked of saaay a domestic battery call for service and the videos are used to plot and arrange a serious burglary.

Officers cams shoeing the layouts and possessions will be a information goldmine, heck will be?

It seems to me that aldercreatures are already selling access in the model of Hillary and her servers.

This under the table scheme will provide big bucks. Off the books but more importantly it will see gangs deliver VOTES in large portions...plentiful enough to secure local elections for sure.

Deleting footage drains the currency value and jeopardizes elections.
Im actually surprised the footage isnt subject to FOIA already.

It seems inevitable that livestreaming a chosen officer will come to pass. Call it "oversight" tools given to all "civilians...
Heck, throw in a FEE of some kind for access and the CPD pension problem would be solved. Until the eventual lawsuit by those who figure out the robbery and rape they experienced was aided by officer cam footage Rahm let out to the public.
Ironic eh, the guy that gets hammered for hiding such footage will double down and use that hammering as excuse to make it all public access!!

See the con going on? Make em beg for the very things they claim to oppose!

Well that is the fault of the knee jerk reaction from the mayor's office. How do you spec and place a order for these cameras without a plan of them syncing with our outdated and mundane cad and department computers. Oh could it be you have no one has a clue on what the hell they are doing. We can't even get a reliable VPN network for the PDT's.

The city doesn't own these videos, read the fine print in the contract. Taser owns them. The city has no power to erase them. Did you not read the fine print on the paperwork you were ordered to sign before you were issued it? When you log in to view a video after downloading do you log into a city website? NO! You long into taser's website.

They probably would if they could just get them back from el’Coprah, who has first right to view, judge and deem.
Seems like if it’s to be used as potential evidence that the control of such should be entirely in CPD hands not City Hall and it’s politically appointed non -law enforcement civilian affiliates.

But this is Sanctuary City, where rule of law and binding contract is intentionally ignored and manipulated for political and social gain.
What prosecutor or judge here is willing challenge that?

A picture is worth a thousand days.

Stay Fetal and Uninvolved.

You don't need to look far to figure out how or why this happened. Just ask our very own merit promoted, self proclaimed technology guru, a$$ kisser, throw you and yours under the bus, Chief Jonathan Lewin.

He promised the mayor that he would have the body cams out there and he did not care about YOU, costs, retention, department policy, or state laws. He had a mayor to please and another promotion on his mind.

With the recent $40,000,000.00 contract to TASER signed off on don't be surprised he up and retires taking a sweet gig with TASER and leaving us with this unmanageable mess.

God Bless Us All

Do you realize how much storage they're buying to hold this stuff? Think about it, at .30 a gig (which is DIRT CHEAP for enterprise grade storage, $1-2 a gig is more realistic) times say 9,000 officers times say 60 gigs a shift for 720P you're talking a lot of damn money. I mean literally $160,000 a day for .30 a gig because they're storing over 500 Terrabytes. While I don't have the exact numbers you get the idea.
