- The Cook County State’s Attorney denied felony charges against any of 4 men, including one Oak Lawn resident, who parked in front of a home in Oak Lawn with a gun and drugs in a car in which they had failed to properly transfer its title. The police were patrolling in the area of Southwest Highway and 95th Street on Monday July 30th when the officer observed a strange license plate on the vehicle and decided to follow the car. The driver of the car traveled westbound on 97th Street then northbound on Moody Avenue before parking in the 9500 block. The officer pulled behind the car but didn’t activate his lights. When the officer approached the car, he claimed that he smelled burnt cannabis as the driver rolled down the window. The car had Arizona license plates and the driver produced a title to the car that had not been properly transferred yet.

The officer alleged that he saw the butt of a handgun under the driver seat. He reached inside the car to remove a Smith and Wesson handgun with a fully loaded magazine of hollow point rounds with an empty chamber, according to the officer. Two of the men allegedly provided statements to the police implicating Ingram as the owner of the gun. According to the men, when the office initially pulled behind the car, Ingram told the other occupants he had a gun and removed it from his waistband. According to the men, he then placed it between his legs but they lost sight of it. Ingram denied knowledge of the gun according to the police.
None of the men in the car had a valid FOID Card or a concealed carry license. The police contacted the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on two occasions that night asking for approval to charge Ingram with a felony gun charge. In both instances, the Cook County State’s Attorney denied the request.

The old "smell weed" and "saw butt of gun under the seat" BS doesn't fly anymore SCC. No judges or ASA's believe that crap anymore. Produce evidence for them or deal with the rejected or CI'd cases. Give credit to the driver for not giving a statement implicating himself. We need to judge our arrests based on the assumption that everybody requests an attorney, and no video is present. A jury doesn't convict if all you have is the officer's testimony. No way a judge would rule beyond a reasonable doubt. ASA is spot on on this example.
Democrats love felons and illegal gun owners. They hate lawful gun owners and CCP holders.
Cook County justice system is the root cause of all the shit happening today. No repercussions equals escalation in brazen criminality.

That's bullshit. They did produce evidence in this case, the gun and statements from 2 shitbags. Combine that with officer testimony, which, despite what you think, some people still find officers credible. The point here is this, just approve it and send it to court. If they lose the case so what, but they have to try. Not every case is gonna be perfectly wrapped up, tied off with a pretty bow and served on a silver platter.

Sounds like they were just about to do some damage out in da 'burbs but stopped on the wrong street. Suburban cops know if they see a carload of young hood rats it's worth an investigative stop since they were probably out there to steal or deal anyways. You are proving my point. Statements from 2 shitbags are reliable how? They are shitbags as you stated. The gun is evidence after the lab locates DNA or prints on it. The officers didn't see anybody possess the gun. Prosecutors work under the standard beyond a reasonable doubt. We operate under probable cause, which is a much lower standard. If they don't believe the case wins beyond a reasonable doubt, they are supposedly obligated to not try the case in court.
Apparently you don't testify that much and see first hand that our testimony is not enough in court anymore. You better bring some DNA or prints on that gun if you expect charges.
Well, sounds to me like the department may want to, encourage more requests for overrides be made to the 1st Deputy. You know since the States attorney won’t do the job she was elected to do.

I fear for the safety of Chicago cops all the time even though I am a civilian I worked for over 20 years with cops and it is common sense....you don't support your dept, you have stupid rules such as contacts for a felony charge, you have a worthless wimpy lying mayor and apparently your chief is gutless. COPS cannot nor should they be forced to FIX the damn problem..........where is the outrage at the community for doing nothing but complain??? Take some responsibility folks......it's not the cops job to raise your kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
