Ouch
- A Chicago police officer impaled an arm on a fence during a foot chase early Saturday in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The officer suffered the arm injury during a foot pursuit about 2:40 a.m. in the 700 block of North Springfield Avenue, according to police. The injury was considered accidental.
The officer was taken to a hospital, where their [sic] condition had stabilized, police said.
There really isn't much on the west side worth that much pain, but best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Tribune article made it seem like it was the “foot pursuits” fault.
Keep up the good work office... a 💩💩💩COPA person is monitoring your every move to ensure quality of polleecing. I am sure Rahm met up with you at hospital
I wish this officer a good recovery. I’ve heard it was very serious when it it first occurred.
The officers on the west side chase for anything and everything.
NOTHING good comes out of police work anymore..speedy recovery and best wishes to the officer.
Hit the medical for a year fuck his place
Keep up the good work
Keep up the good work officers, I'm sure all the bosses and up the chain got his back. On a personal note, this guy is probably a five year wonder still trying to go to a plain clothes hair-gel unit or already there since it's reversed seniority everywhere nowadays. But, then again if it wasn't for these young whippersnappers still working hard out there the bosses would be bothering me to go out there and make a difference. Personally I'm remaining comatose till retirement which is very close, maybe 2 more years. Still I hope for a good recovery for this officer, God Bless...
Yeah “Accidental” cuz the bad guy was accidentally carrying a gun. Yeah OK
give a flash boys and girls, give a flash!!!!
Pursuit? Stupid.
Heal well and fully
It was the foot pursuits fault. If he didn't chase nothing would have happened. Even if successful the pos would be back on street before the paperwork was complete. Why bother and run the risk of pain and injury, or worse you are forced to use deadly force.
Good luck officer. I hope there is no permanent damage.
Don't foot chase, don't car chase, don't stop anyone. Just answer your radio and respond to your calls. Stay safe and go home alive !
Damn, best wishes for a speedy recovery officer.
A chase? What's wrong with this guy?
Get well soon. Don't foot chase, don't car chase. Just answer the radio and go to your calls. Stay safe and alive!
O.T.
It will be interesting to see if the "community" is more outraged over the death of the woman killed by the dog or by the death of the dog by the police
Get well office. Hopefully no nerve, tendon or serious muscle or vascular injury. I know it's hard not to chase these hoodrats, but nothing much good seems to come from it. Give the communerty the poleec service they want, and deserve. This means, just take a repoht.
I wish this officer a good recovery. I’ve heard it was very serious when it it first occurred.
The officers on the west side chase for anything and everything.
It's the nature of the beast. Of course, 10 and 11 are going to have the most foot chases.
Best wishes to the officer for a speedy and complete recovery. God Bless our police.
'Impaled'. Not a word you want to hear a lot of.
---> 'Hi Honey, How was work today?'
---> 'Well Dear... I got 'impaled'.
---> (ka-thump) sound of wife fainting.
Get well soon Officer.
Hope the injury isn't life or career altering.
I got into a foot chase in the alligator gardens last night. I was chasing down the Ice Cream truck with a bunch of kids. We finally got him to stop and give us our Ice Cream
20+ years ago ...a fleeing burglar impaled himself on an iron fence at Fullerton & kedzie. Now that was a real pain in the ass.
Shee’it joe it’s 02:40 in the ghetto...I’d be running too.
What a war story to tell from a stool at the end of the bar...this weekend all the way thru to 25yrs from now.
I guess that’s worth something.
Just a reminder;
There’s no guarantee that Ed Burke’s Finance Dept is going to approve the IOD.
The SpecialEd Community foot pursuit rule will be applied and shifts the contributing responsibility to the chaser.
What’s the BCBS deductibles now?
If I can find a nice, clean, pointy fence, and if I can find a believable situation where I would get in a foot chase, I might just try to "accidentally" impale my arm for some time off. Foot chases still have their place on today's department: IOD.
He must not read the blog...…...
Wait till WE have to do TRR on foot pursuits.
Thanks special ED Your decree which you have not read yet is a piece of work.
Neither has RAHM...
The Department denied the IOD.
Stay safe and please make a speedy strong recovery
Stop chasing these idiots...in cars or on foot...aint worth it
God bless you for doing your job. Don’t listen to the cowards here.

Meh— good luck in 20 years with injuries sustained on the job— meh
I will only chase for a serious crime. Not dope, not a hot car, and certainly not just for running from the police from a spot. Risk vs reward.
The risks are your health, your job and your freedom so the rewards must be equally great.
Hopefully the PO will recover 100% and they and others will use proper discretion when perusing in the car or on foot.
It has nothing with being brave or scared. The city will not back you so behave accordingly.
The fence just acquired an attorney and is going to get a ghetto lottery payout.
Sorry, not gonna happen. Smile & wave...
I've been in many foot chases. Sorry, these days it ain't worth it. Police reformers will go after the most aggressive officers. I've seen many aggressive officers get fired or in callback for doing things we used to do. Adjust to the new rules or get fired. September 1 new rules are coming. We don't make the rules, we just play the game. Speedy recovery for the officer
Hope you learn from this incident. It doesn't pay to get hurt or killed by these animals. Yes animals ! Stay safe and go home alive and well !!!!
I hope the guy calling everyone cowards makes it to 29 and a day. Good luck. It’s only a job. Not a way of life.

Yep yep. I wish the officer a speedy recovery as well....no doubt nature of the beast, of course 10/11 are going to have the stupidest group of young coppers chasing and TRRing for a half block chase turned CCOC ticket...the only west side districts that havent gotten the message. Making a tac team in Harrison or Ogden is pretty much reverse seniority.....no longer a badge of honor. You will get your chance to write 3 blue cards a night, 2 Parker’s and actually feel you made a difference
Wish the officer a full recovery. Don't go out of your way to make it a speedy one though. Take your time. Take all the time you can get. Don't let the City drag it's feet on treatment.
IOD wages still tax exempt?
As for foot chases:
Unless he did something for which you can shoot him, there is no point in chasing him.
If he did something for which you can shoot him, there is no point in chasing him.
Don't foot chase, don't car chase, dont stop anyone. Its NOT WORTH it. Just answer the radio and go to your calls. Stay safe and God Bless !
No it should be agg batt. If a bystander had gotten hurt as result of this chase the city would be held liable and Officer lambasted in the media WAKE UP. Screw that foot chase the offender isn’t going anywhere but back to the hood on 4-6 hours. Knock off the “I give a crap about people attitude” we are hated for being good guys we are hated for enforcing the laws the same people that hate us voted for
