- After a spike in gun violence earlier this month, police sent 600 additional police officers to the South and West Sides — and ordered a crackdown on “unsanctioned” outdoor parties that officials said had led to some of the violence.
But while some aldermen and residents asked the city to keep the police in their neighborhoods longterm, at least one well-known anti-violence group had a different response: no thanks.
Not only did Tamar Manasseh, founder of Mothers/Men Against Senseless Killings, sound an alarm over the extra police officers from around the city flooding Englewood, she also feared the crackdown on street parties directly threatened the frequent gatherings her group hosts for residents. Those gatherings by her group — which has been dubbed the “Army of Moms” — have gotten national attention and have been credited with helping reduce violence in the area.
No mention of block parties (permitted and unauthorized) being target rich environments for shooters looking to settle old scores. She wrote a completely nonsensical editorial for the New York Times this past week claiming to have witnessed all sorts of depredations by police upon "community" members intent only on fun.
Once again though, protestors challenge Special Ed, this time over his "crackdown" on unsanctioned block parties and demonstrate the emptiness of Special Ed's threats. Way to go Mr. Fenner.

Now, we had our annual ( I think it was the 48th year ) block party last Sunday. It started around 1 PM with the pony rides, bouncy house and rides for the kids on Engine 55. While the grill was being warmed up for the hot dogs, hamburgers and brats there was a dog show, water ballon toss and face painting. I think the total attendance was around 225. It all ended around 7:30 PM with the men from the block armed with shovels and brooms cleaning the street before neighbors brought there cars back to park on the street. Total calls to 9-1-1 = 0. Total shot = 0. Hum . . . . .
It is amazing why do young skulls full of mush Chicago police officers Even get involved in the nonsense that these get all creatures created. Why do you risk your job your freedom your good name even trying to enforce any type of law to the lawless on washed? The “community’s” idea of fun has nothing to do with a civilized society. The Bulls Riots come to mind.

First off, I consider myself fairly well informed on the news and if this woman, Tamar Manasseh, and her group has gotten 'national attention', it beats the shit out of me as I've never heard of her or her group. Maybe her notoriety is confined to Black Media outlets?
Secondly, I went and read that editorial in the New York Times and it's a load of unmitigated horseshit. She makes wild accusations of rampant police brutality with absolutely no proof or backup. She may as well have claimed she was taken by Grey Aliens into a UFO -- it would have the same validity.
Last but not least, her self-described claim of success in reducing violence / shootings is limited to One Street Corner! She brags that the street corner on 75th & Stewart, where she regularly erects her tent, hasn't had any shootings.

The woman who falls asleep giving her baby a bath and the baby drowns. Nine dead in a fire where there are no smoke detectors and the home is not compliant with current codes but the city does not prohibit occupancy. People are shot on major roadways at all hours of the day by brazen gunmen who exhibit no fear of consequences of law. A woman is walking on a city street in West Town at 7am on a Sunday morning is beaten and raped in an alley. Or a city government declares itself a sanctuary city and does not co operate with federal law enforcement. And he went on until I stopped him. It is really simple, I stay out of the city as much as possible and spend my time in the suburbs. More importantly, I am a fetal citizen. Thats right, a fetal citizen. I don't care. I hear about this stuff going on and I could care less. Anything goes in Chicago and that is the fault of the states attorney and circuit courts. We get what we vote for and have not learned the consequences of poor candidates and stupid choices we make. Anything goes in Chicago from government corruption that no one cares about. Not the US Attorney, not the Illinois AG, not political leaders and not the voters. So I remain fetal like the police, who I do respect in a City that doe not respect the police. In a couple years I will join that migration from Illinois. And I will care way less.

Also Mary Mitchell writes about deadbeat dads not being made to pay child support for their kids while failing to mention the failure of Lisa Madigan, ASAs from any counties or judges who fail to enforce the child support rulings.

You know this is from two years ago, correct? SCC covered it then, for a day or two.
She hosted an illegal block party over the weekend on the 7500 block of Stewart that was advertised on the MASK website. She used unauthorized (and most likely stolen) "no parking" signs from the Department of Water Management and used personal vehicles to illegally block traffic on Stewart. When the beat officers justifiably requested to see the city permit for said block party she claimed she just didn't have it on her. She didn't have it on her BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T PULL ONE. Their ilk shoved cameras in the beat coppers faces and harassed them as per usual while they politely requested her permit. Due to the cowardice of this department, kid gloves were used and she was allowed to continue the unsanctioned large gathering. This is a woman who allegedly stands up against violence yet repeatedly treats the officers whom defend the community from violence with pure vitriol. When the community pegs the citizens against the police, that community will get exactly the kind of violence this city is currently experiencing. Stay classy, M.A.S.K
