Shots Fired at Police
Robbery gone south?
- On 15 Sep 2018 a PPO was the victim of an armed robbery in the 8900 S. Blk Blackstone Ave in the early morning hours. There were shots fired at the PPO too. This was reported under JB436092.
There was a comment or two about the offender discovering the badge before opening fire. Officer is unhurt, but one comment said the officer's weapon was in the trunk...that's not smart and hopefully, not true.

the badge and gun ALWAYS go out together.

Can’t believe how many PO’s I know who say “I don’t carry off duty.”
Well that's better than the cadet that showed up for duty and on inspection her gun was not loaded and she told the commander she didn't want to shoot anybody! Sharp really sharp!!!
Possible shots fired at the police in 014 tonight about 2340hrs, sounded confusing on the radio. They were trying to figure out if it was more of on view loud reports, caught in the middle of a gang shooting, or actually shots fired at the police...
In the trunk? Un F---ing believable. In the trunk really ? He or She might be the type of cop who doesn't load there weapon so in the trunk might be the best place for storage. In the trunk?
Look ppo's or rookies, just because you grew up over there or met a cute little thing, keep in mind you are now Da Poleece and therefore a target. The media says you make over 7$,$$$. $$ and you got a gun!!
Anyone who carries their Star in a wallet, is either poorly trained, or a fool. If someone approaches you and already has their weapon out, you may have no choice but to surrender your wallet, especially if your firearm is in your locker at work, or in your trunk. At that point, having the offender realize you are a cop; could result in your being shot. Many young cops want to be able to say they are the police, and wave the Star. BUT THE REALITY IS THIS: "IF YOU HAVE NO GUN, YOU AIN'T THE FO REEL POLEECE!" At which point, "You ain't Shiiit". Don't leave home without it! Baby "G"
I work on the south side and pulled this ppo over for a missing front plate on 16SEP18 at around 1941hrs right around 82nd & Vernon and he only showed me his badge, and showed me paperwork from the armed robbery incident and his i.o.d. report from getting punched in the face by one of two offenders a day prior. We confirmed he was the police but nonetheless when I asked why they took everything except his weapon and badge he replied, “I went to get it out of the trunk because I knew they were about to run up on me.” All I could think of was, “why wasnt your weapon not on you to begin with!!!” They already battered him and clearly (we know now) robbed him. Does he need more to happen to be in fear of his life?
OT...
Bathory says, "Instead of giving you a typical quote about the music video, let me give you some data to ponder ... Medical malpractice is the 3rd leading cause of death in the USA right behind heart-disease and cancer. Some research says an average of 250,000 people die every year because of medical errors. In contrast, police officers make an average of 50 fatal errors annually, that’s 245,950 less - and most of them are due to split-second decisions in high-risk situations. Of course, loss of life is always tragic but we don’t put all medical professionals on blast or call them names, disrespect them and demonize them. Of course not. They’re doing their best and it would be just as ridiculous as the current, grossly unfair rhetoric against police as a whole."
The above comment was from the hard rock band Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Zoltan Bathory, regarding the subject of their new video for the song "When the Seasons Change", which is dedicated to the police officers and first responders around the world who put their lives on the line every day. One officer in particular -- Las Vegas officer and Army veteran Charleston Hartfield -- caught the attention of Bathory. The policeman lost his life in a 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting when he used his body to shield and save others from a hail of bullets.

Five Finger Death Punch have turned their focus to police officers during this tour cycle, with the band setting aside money from ticket sales on their summer trek to go to the C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors) organization. They recently presented a check for $95,000 to the organization, whose primary mission is to help rebuild the lives of survivors and co-workers affected by those who have lost their lives in the line of duty
In that neck of the woods the PPO should of had his weapon in hand inside the pocket of his jacket or hoodie. Always be prepared for the worst case scenario.
Many years back, one of our guys went out after work and locked his gun in the trunk of his car. Goes home shitfaced, forgets to take it out. Mama wakes him up and tells him someone is out front breaking into the ride. He goes out there just in time to get shot at with his own gun. He used to call his gun "Sally." He tells us, "Sally's turned to a life of crime." RIP Double D.
At the police academy in 1986? Still a rookie.
I drink... that's why I don't carry od.
"In 1986, at the Chicago Police Academy, we were taught
the badge and gun ALWAYS go out together".
Since when is our STAR called a badge. Our Department is going through rough times and may not recover, but our STAR will always shine bright. A thought from an old man.
He is very lucky to be alive.
I know of another PO with 20 plus years who carries his gun off duty in a lap top bag (PURSE) and then, places it in the trunk when he drives his personal car. Nothing like calling a time out and telling the offender, "hey can you give me a minute? I have to go in the trunk and retrieve my gun from my Purse".
The gun belongs on your strong side, not in the trunk people.
And always. Carry extra mags.

Question: Will individual, having experienced being the center of a predator's attention, continue maintaining head up ass condition?
Answer: Speak up, individual, your voice is muffled, for some odd reason.....
A whole new kinda of PPO out here on the street. We gotta be real careful

RELAX! Don't get your undies in a bunch. Haven't you seen those anti-NRA commercials? All he/she needed to do is pop the truck and yell at the gun. It would jump up and start shooting on its own. Geez you know nuthin.
It's True !!!! These New Hires have No F#$@ing Concept of what's going on out here.
If you are unarmed in the South or West Side You are soft as a grape.
Robbery Gone South; TV headline ?
Probably was true, remember the officer with no bullets in her gun. I understand that the only thing that happened to her was a cushy jobs in Caps. So. Just like the courts no punishment for CPD officers who screw up. Nice city.
While I think having your gun in your trunk is stupid, here the the whole story as i was there. Kid was coming home from a bar. Hence gun in trunk. Shit heads force him to ground at gun point as he got out of his car. They took his keys and wallet. Opened ans said oh shit this is a cop that changes everything. At this point the go to shoot the ppo who manages to not get hit and runs off. The indigenous savages are at the point of executing us. Be safe out there.

does she go back to the academy for firing?
Always always carry off duty.
In the current climate I carry 2 Glock 45's with several extra extended magazines at all times while driving my personal vehicle. It is better to have more rounds to be in slide lock and out of ammo.
That used to be a very safe area when I lived there in 1998.
Glad the pop is ok. In the strange time we luv in its probably better the pop didn’t return fire.
It was probably in her purse, and the purse was in the trunk.
Here’s another scenario that isn’t too far fetched. They take the ppo’s car, find the gun, kill someone with it (maybe even a police officer).
Too many soft and squishy types
coming on the job now...
But then again, soft and squishy
is what modern society has demanded
The Police to be.
"There's no reason for you Cops to be
big, strong, tough-minded and assertive
like you used to be because that could
lead you to guys to being aggressive,
combative, too quick to resort to your
fists, clubs, guns and too focused on
your own survival and "going home no
matter what." The public is ill served
with The Police having such a frightening
mindset..."
So much Progressive and Catered-to BULLSHIT
has been deliberately overwritten onto The
Police hard drive as to render The Police
unable to respond appropriately especially
to lethal threats.
"We want The Police to (be compelled under pain
of administrative sanction, loss of employment,
criminal and civil sanction civil forfeiture of
their assests) exercise (suicidal) restraint in
their use of force (against any member of a
catered-to constituency) and not be so ferocious
in defense of themselves." (No matter what is put
forth in State and Federal laws in regard to
use of force by Law Enforcement Officers)
...Or something like that.

It was really sharp if it’s true that they placed her in CAPS. When else can you go from the academy almost directly into CAPS Never have to work the street and get all the benefits , plus the benefits of CAPS
That is the new wave job went to shit fast retired in 2004 time to leave this place
I think any officer who does not approach a vehicle with their hand on their weapon is really putting their life in danger.
More experienced SCC visitors can come to their own conclusions as to the number of mistakes that are evidenced in the video, linked below.
The shot officer was very lucky she had a partner and one who acted very quickly quickly.
It’s mind boggling an officer would put their weapon in the trunk.
-Not a cop
Be safe all of you.

If he drank enough that he decided his gun should be in the trunk instead of on his side, he probably drank enough that he shouldn't have been driving. Unless he somehow thinks driving drunk is easier and safer than shooting drunk. Shouldn't put yourself in a position to have to weigh that one. Your attempt at justification didn't really help his case.

Well, there were holes in the squad car so what do you think?
It has to be the last 19 years were the police hired are lacking any common sense or have their hands in pockets walking up on a vehicle stop. Seen FTO and their PPO full of shit and looking they know all when asked questions by dicks. One FTO was seen kissing a Bangers ass as he was a victim of his vehicle taking a few rounds. Nearly puked.
Just look at the new generation of police in Chicago compared to state and burb police. I say no more. 4'-11" PPO' do not command respect and they look like they are going to shit their pants when out of their squads. How they can wear a 20 pound plus rig is laughable.
Texting and talking on the phone when riding the ghetto is the norm with most of the millennium police.
Real pity the police that listened and learned for old timers. So glad to be out of this mess and chaos for 8 years.

In our '86 class we were reminded to always have a pen handy to sign the back of the restaurant receipts for that discount and to always use someone else's name and star number when doing so...
To 7:19
Actually it's called the button.
I stand there corrected.
So glad you are more concerned about symantics
and not that carrying our star or button without a gun to back it
up will get you fucking killed.

Conclusion:
He did not die.
Many do.
Did he learn from this?
If so, what did he learn?
If not, why not?
First commenter claimed to have been on scene. Elaborate. If only by taking the 5th.
Second commenter: Spot on target. Will drunk dummy disregard? Will drunk dummy's "buddy" disregard?
All in all, stupid does not improve odds of not being shot dead.
