- The Chicago Police Department provides no clear directives on how it selects, trains and evaluates officers assigned to patrol public schools, according to a report released Thursday from the city inspector general.
CPD doesn’t even have up-to-date staffing rosters and legal agreements with the Chicago Public Schools system for its school resource officers, Inspector General Joseph Ferguson’s office said.
The department’s lack of guidance and structure over school resource officers underscores what Ferguson’s office describes as a “high probability” that students get unnecessarily entangled in the criminal justice system. The IG said it urged authorities to immediately create formal standards and responsibilities for school-based police officers by the start of classes this fall.
Students usually get "unnecessarily entangled" in the courts because they're breaking the law, not because cops are doing their jobs. Aside from that, is anyone really surprised there's no training records, no staffing rosters and no legal agreements with the CPS? You have two gigantic bureaucracies operating under two completely different sets of rules and (to be quite frank) two completely different aims:
- an institutionally conservative CPD enforces the law
- an institutionally liberal CPS teaches typical leftist bullshit

The offender is always innocent! Student Discipline in the Chicago Public School System exists primarily in the most exclusive schools in their system. Northside College Prep does not have the same problems as other schools in the system. Principals do not allow their students to be randomly forced into the criminal justice system. Agree 100% No CPD in schools, let them learn to appreciate the police, it wont take long but they still will never admit it. How many times does it blow back on the copper who enforces the law in school, then shown on cell video over and over again and the teachers fuck the coppers over? Take no action, let the fucking teacher or principal handle it. Give them the police service they deserve and want.

Ok, 2nd watch across the city is back to a skeleton crew due to the lost of the extra manpower known as the school units when school is not in session and they are a regular day off rotation. School is back in Session and we are short-handed and can't cover all they missions. I say, pull the school units out of CPS, once and for all. The City has closes many schools down and are saving money. Take some of those saving and add more Security Personnel to their Safety &Security Force and replace CPD. School Unit officer are not being utilized anyway, the school administrators do not want them walking around the schools unless there's an emergency or mandatory school safety drill. Pull them out and add them back to the Rank and File.

How about no merit promotions at all? If you have a problem with the tests, it’s on you to deal with it. Not everyone should be promoted, especially because of clout!
Remember when the school patrol was a complete unit, with their own transport and rapid response cars? A deputy had a hard on for the unit’s commander, and it was disbanded! The unit was absorbed by the districts, and the rest is history.
I heard at Bridge grade school on the north side that one of the teachers in the after school program was "teaching" the children how police are killing all the black men.
I thought the Dept had some protocol set up after Columbine where they designated “official” school officers.
I recall some School Violence Incident Response (?) training session back then.
Absolutely amazing that almost 20 years passed since Columbine and the Mighty Joe Fergie Inspector General just uncovered another little sumtin-sumtin to add to his Blame the Police pile.

Let CPS pay for their own security. They take 53% of our property taxes. Pull CPD out and let them spend the money on security, they seem to have money for everything else. If they need an arrest made, call a beat car and I doubt many calls will be made
Of course there is no formal training plan because:
1. How could you get “your guy” into that assignment if there were actual requirements;
2. If there was a formal training plan for school officers then the department would have to provide officers actual formal in-person training on active school shooters instead of the b*llsh*t roll call videos.

I was at a very large Northside High School recently and had to stop at the security desk, along with several other people who were coming into the School. There was a uniformed police officer sitting at the table along with what appeared to be a security guard. Either one of the two had any weapon on them. The police officer had nothing on her belt but a cell phone. No gun, no handcuffs, no mace, no asp, no taser. What the hell were these two going to do to stop a school shooter? If I was a school shooter they would be the first to to go. Then I would have free access to the rest of the building. Is it because liberals don't want to see an armed police officer sitting at a table? I just don't get it. Somebody should be standing there with an AR-15 watching as the security guard lets people into the building.
