Election Fix

  • The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners on Wednesday upheld a hearing officer’s finding that a petition to hold a referendum on term limits for Chicago’s mayor was legally invalid.

The referendum will not appear on the November ballot, the board ruled.

Former Gov. Pat Quinn and his Take Charge Chicago group, which gathered signatures in an effort to get the referendum on the ballot, promised to take the matter to court.

Quinn argued the Chicago City Council should not have been allowed to crowd the binding referendum on term limits off the ballot by approving three advisory referenda questions, which he described as a deliberate “sabotage tactic.”
God forbid the actual voters have any sort of say in how their government is run. Voters might disrupt the rampant corruption and cronyism.

So Quinn was right (boy I hate to say it) when he said the City Council used a sabotage technique to crowd the referendum of term limits for the Chicago Mayor off the 2018 ballot. They replaced it with an advisory referendum of: Should the City of Chicago ban plastic drinking straws within the corporate limits of the City. Now the reason to ban is some environmentalists believe the straws are ending up in the ocean harming sea life. Santa Barbara California has banned them and you can be fined up to one thousand or six months in prison if caught with a plastic drinking straw.

Now Chicago is pretty far from the ocean so I doubt our straws would end up there. Our garbage gets burned and also gets put into garbage dumps. But why not ban all plastic then? This shows you how crazy these radical Democrat Progressives are. A good binding referendum would be: Should the City Council be banned from ingesting whatever it is that is making them make stupid decisions that never help the citizens/taxpayers. Should they be tarred and feathered for such decisions?

But of course the real reason they have blocked Quinn's referendum is they want to get their machine candidate in for another dynasty and they don't want to have that person challenged every four years by an outsider like an independent or that almost extinct species called a Republican.

I can't find it now but I know I saw that these three advisory referenda questions were approved BEFORE Quinn started collecting the signatures for term limits.

Which begs the questions, why would Quinn collect signatures knowing that his term limits referenda question would never appear on the ballot?
Why would Quinn include a second question knowing that his referenda would never appear on the ballot.
Quinn is not stupid but he is calculating.
What's his end game?

Very true. Or at least they’d only let certain people do it. They certainly wouldn’t want any free thinkers involved.

They always stack the referendums early so no one can put anything actually useful on the ballot

Quinn could win this in the courts, but will eventually lose because he put more than one question on the petition. That is forbidden. Was Quinn lazy or sloppy?

An actual referendum gets shunted aside for 'advisory' referenda? WTF.

Yes, at least we don't have to deal with a Rahm dynasty, but NO elected political position should run for more than two terms. None of them.

It was back in June that the Rahm Controlled 48 Council selected and approved the 3 referenda questions.
(These are non-binding anyway...not likely to be implemented anytime soon thereafter.)
1. How to SPEND marijuana revenue on CPS mental health care - (a Madigan State of IL issue)
2. Have a State of IL create homeowner exemption for some folks - (a Madigan State of IL issue)
3. Ban plastic straws. (a CookCo Tax item?)

Quinn can still challenge if his group persists legally, as did a suburb done to get Term Limit proposal on the ballot.
Only to be challenged in IL court later after the 2019 election.

Rahm pulled this stunt in 2016 also, it’s no secret just a weasel snake nasty maneuver Dems do.
State Law dictates how many referendum get on the ballot.
If he’s serious about aTerm Limits, can Rauner issue an executive order?

This is going to take a LOT of political will, and will not please the Madaganites...it's their whole "grab power and hold on to it at any cost strategy"...

Langdon Neal - the same turd who's law firm represented McCormick Place as part of the construction for the DePoop Arena. He had a client who he also helped MPEA buy is client's property for almost $5,000,000 of tax money, as the client just bought it for $1,300,000 the year before. The best part, in representing both sides, he didn't even get an appraisal for the value of the property.

Paul Vallas If you don’t , you should read SCC .
Will you reduce the number of alderman by 50% ?
Try to recruit citizens to run for alderman to run against incumbents .
Promise to conduct an Audit of all contracts , end Sanctuary City status . It’s not affordable to Chicago’s citizens , improve our school system , you can do it . Vow to collect unpaid water bills from suburbs , end garbage collection fees , end waste in every city department .
People should not be paid to do nothing , supply the new 25 Alderman with body cameras to be worn while conducting city business . Good chance that could be a part time job at half the pay .
End health insurance for all retired city politicians , not the hard working employees .
Chicago needs change , it could be you .

The bored of elections does what they are told to do by the machine. Ruling in favor of Rahm’s residency case should have shown everybody what they are all about. This is no surprise. Alderscum Michelle Harris was the one who added other unnecessary items to the bAllot to protect Rahm. Her reward was a trip to China with 9.5. They all have to go.

Way past time to show these mutts who is boss. Just in case there is any doubt, you are you and your votes and political money and muscle. Organize find some and law and order candidates to fight the social justice BS. Just 10 or 12 on council will stymie much of the bad BS. Stop complaining and start doing something obstructive. Put you money and time to work to change things. Think about it each one of you holds sway on 10-15 votes when you add immediate family in laws and sometimes friends. That is a lot of votes to be used against the establishment. But you have to be vocal and organized. Not just bitching but offering up constructive plans for change. Add up the CFD, CPS and city workers and you can control who is in office. Ball is in your court especially this election with so many diverse candidates for Mayor. You have a huge voting block use it well. Failures not an option.

Great idea and plan. I hope it works but you have a problem. You are delusional if you think every CPD, CFD and city worker and their friends and family thinks and votes like you. Bring it up at roll call and you will have numerous opinion on who to vote for. Police can’t agree on where to eat lunch and my CFD friends say the same about the guys in the firehouse. Arguments all the time about political candidates
Your concept is good, but in the real world it doesn’t work
