Light Reading

  • THE SETTING: When an Illinois casino license became available in the late 1990s, it triggered fierce competition between several cities, all eager to be chosen for the very-profitable, highly-coveted enterprise that is legitimate, big gambling in the Land of Lincoln.

THE WINNER: In March 2004, the Illinois Gaming Board awarded the license to the City of Rosemont, Illinois, adjacent to O’Hare Airport.

THE FIX: In response to allegations that criminal interests aligned with the “Chicago Outfit” (AKA “The Mob”) were active in Rosemont, then Illinois Governor Blagojevich, now prisoner #40892-424 in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, hired Eric Holder, former Deputy U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder during the Clinton Administration, to investigate, draft and release a report that would clear the Rosemont casino project with a clean bill of health.
It's entertaining seeing as how anyone with even the tiniest bit of knowledge regarding Chicago history knows the Outfit still runs a sizeable portion of things around here. They never completely went away - just kind of went "legitimate" in some things, not so legit in others. You don't think there's a reason the Organized Crime Unit ceased to even look for Outfit connections years ago?

This article ties a lot of loose ends into a good read and gives you a hint of how deep things might go.

The " G" infiltrated and convicted the Chicago Outfit and put away a lot of bad guys but those bad guys NEVER killed innocent citizens. Too bad the "G" can't do the same to Chicago street gangs that are responsible for thousands of murders. Once again FBI agents are nothing more than bookeepers with guns. ♠️

One of the so-called heroes in this article is Wayne Johnson, then associated with the Chicago Crime Commission. Johnson first testified before the Illinois Gaming Commission that Mayor Stephens had organized crime connections.

Johnson then departed the Chicago Crime Commission and was employed as Chief of Police in the Town of Cicero. Mayor Stephens then sued Johnson over his statements linking him with organized crime.

Johnson then sent a letter to the Illinois Gaming Board retracting his claims about knowledge of Mayor Stephens actions stating "with my respects to my comments to the Gaming Board on January 20, 2001, I want to make it clear that I have no personal knowledge about Mayor Donald E. Stephens' business dealings, I never stated that Mayor Stephens was a business associate of organized crime, nor did I want in any way to suggest that he might have associations."

Later organized crime figures James Marcello and Michael Marcello are recorded inside a Federal penitentiary that they spoke about the Emerald Casino and they stated Edward R Vrdolyak played a role in getting Wayne Johnson to retract his statements about Mayor Stephens. At the time Vrdolyak was providing legal services to the Town of Cicero.

It got blown up because Kevin Flynn (RIP) was a dumb ass and Mayor Stephens was a dumb ass (RIP). Outfit connected contractors are everywhere.

I think it is more likely that the (potentially) most profitable casino in the country outside of Las Vegas as a very attractive target. How about a People Mover straight to the front door? Blago had just became governor and Lisa (Mike) had just become AG.

Wow, it looks like a bunch of George Ryan connected guys are in control of Rosemont Casino, that looks like a bad idea. That casino should be controlled by a bunch of Madigan / Blago connected guys. Let's blow it up -- and so they did.

Hey SCC...

File this one under:

"Awwwww! Aren't they cuuuute when they

Chicago Scum-Times Editorial Board

EDITORIAL: Every Chicago cop deserves the best in mental health care

"Being a cop, as we so often say, is a hard job.

The chaos, violence and tragedy police officers encounter every day, especially in a city like Chicago that is struggling with a horrific gun violence epidemic, can wear down even the toughest veteran. Plenty of hard-nosed cops just “suck it up,” burying the trauma to keep at their jobs. But buried trauma is like a dormant volcano: Sooner or later, it’s bound to blow..."

~Snip!~

"No wonder, then, that police officers face a high risk of suicide. They are, according to a 2018 study, far more likely to take their own lives than to die or be killed in the line of duty. The Chicago police face an even higher risk, as we first noted last year. The suicide rate among Chicago cops is 60 percent higher than in other police departments across the country, according to the Department of Justice..."

~Snip!~

"We ask the police to “serve and protect” us. We demand that they make split-second decisions to stop crime in real-time, often with lives — including their own — on the line. We expect them to be the “first-responders” when a mental health crisis flares up in a family or neighborhood.

As the police protect us, we must protect them. We must provide the best possible mental health services and, within CPD, send the steady message — an unblinking green light — that officers who seek help will in no way hurt their careers. That’s a real fear among officers, that to seek help is to look weak, and to look weak is to never be promoted..."

~Snip!~

"Every Chicago police officer deserves nothing less."

...Where can we even begin with this?

Do we point & laugh hysterically
at what the Fibune Editorial Board has
flung against the wall in the hope that
it sticks?

Or do we, in a fit of justifiable and righteous pique,
take our laptop outside and bust a bunch of .45 caliber holes in it?

It's gall to the point of sore provocation when these
sniveling, limp-wristed, wet-eyed punks who never had a
hard day in life compared to a Policeman, deigns to opine
that they know what's best FOR Policemen.

Just stop pretending to care already.
You lot are fooling no one but yourselves
and the noisy portion of the public whom
you cater to that revels in gleeful and
willful ignorance that YOU helped perpetrate.

Ironic that the Scum-Times Editorial Board
cherry-picked a portion of that awful consent
decree and twist it in an insincere attempt at
being caring and "humane" toward The Police
whom they and their liberal democrat Alinskyite
confreres defame and revile as the cause of all
that ails Chicago and that "fixing" The Police
will suddenly make all that ails Chicago go away.

"That's why we HATE you Cops! you think way too
much of yourselves! Why can't you be the friendly,
humble, obedient, selfless, TRUE public servants
that you're paid VERY WELL to be instead of being
so aggressive, combative and too quick with your
fists, batons and guns? This isn't 1960 anymore!"

Police Like You Have No Friends.

YOUR survival and livelihood are at stake.
...THEIRS isn't.

"The Mob" screams for YOUR blood.
Then wonders why you're reluctant
to be the "selfless sacrifice."

"Aren't you guys TRAINED to do that?"

Don't be fooled by op-ed pieces like this one.

Look.
Point & Laugh.
Leave.

What I'll never forgive Blago for is ... He RAN on ethics. Gotta remember, the crook before him was George Ryan & Blago's campaign's line of BS was - paraphrasing - he was going to, "get rid of corruption."

George Ryan got 7 years. I find it totally appropriate Blago's sentence was 14 b/c what he did in office - the corruption AFTER saying THAT was what he was going to get rid of, was twice as nauseatingly disgusting.

Oi, that Canada Free Press really has it in for the Chicago establishment, yeah? Well good for them...one could make a remarkably successful journalistic career out of shining light on the corruption, cronyism, faux-socialist hypocrisy and other assorted bad behavior that's gone down in the once great state of Illinois in the last couple of decades. This also speaks to the reasons why an ex-resident like me still keeps tabs on local urban bullshit. They say that all politics is local, but dirty Chicagoland politics ceased being just a local problem when the machine got its hooks firmly embedded in Washington in the mid 90s.

The next few years will be interesting. The Internet makes this sort of thing easier to connect the dots and harder to cover up.

The Casino was a classic episode of "Chicago stories"
The fellas from Rosemont had Blago with a pen in hand ready to sign anything.Feeling confident they got sloppy and listed names on the investors papers that were blatant..sisters with the same last name etc.
This being Chicago and the Italians about to score, guess who showed up ? If you guessed the Irish you win ! They wanted their piece that they felt entitled to and the Paisoni sat down with them but no agreement could be reached due to the famous tempers of both sides starting a fuck you contest early in the negotiation.
The biggest Irish boss had a relative who was the A.G. and he took her leash off.
The investors list was made real public and the gaming board had to react.
All those involved are well known in Chicago politics/OC, some are dead and some are spoken about on this blog today.(I have Italian/Irish blood and genetically can't recall names.)
Nobody went to jail or got killed but there are hard feelings to this day. This was another example of Blago going off the reservation in the Irish eyes and was used as another nail in the coffin when the "G" was asked for a favor.
The Old man had plans to turn Rosemont into a mini Las Vegas and many believe he would have, ever wonder why there are a million hotel rooms out there? Both sides would have made money by the truckload but greed and Chicago's most famous ethnic rivalry killed the goose before the first egg was laid.

Nope.

He will not die until he begs to die, and then, he still won't die, but linger on and on and on and on, every second feeling like a minute, minutes dragging out like hours, hours that pass like an eternity, all because he has earned this.

And when that final instant, just prior to the next no longer embodied instant, comes to him, like so many of his ilk, he will utter that scream without sound, Not Yet!!!!!!, and be ignored.

As for Heaven or Hell, no body can tell, thus, nobody knows where anyone goes.

No one was closer to the mob than Jim Edgar. Edgar had many mob associates on the state payroll. The old boss of the west side crew son had a job in state government along with many others. His patronage chief Janis Cellini gave plenty of big jobs to organized crime associates and Chicago dems. Frank capuzi of the infamous water department email scandal was a six figure state worker who was protected by madigan and the dems. For years the Illinois inspector General refused to investigate capuzi and even out lieutenant governor candidate stratton promised but didn’t investigate capuzi. Edgar is RINO friend of obama and his own Kirk Dillard chief of staff made a campaign commercial for obama. Edgar recently was sucking up to black jesus obama at UIC. This is why Chicago and the state is corrupt.
