LAPD Shooting Video

  • The Los Angeles Police Department on Monday released graphic video footage of July 28 shootout that occurred during a routine traffic stop that resulted in the injury of an officer and the death of the suspect.

The police officers seen in the video were not identified and the events leading up to the shooting appeared routine. The female officer-- who approached from the drivers' side-- worked in the gang unit and apparently knew the suspect.

The officer asked the driver to exit the car, at which point he could be seen pulling out a .380-caliber handgun and firing just inches from the officer. She could be seen falling to the ground and her partner-- who was at the passengers’ side-- returns fire, mortally wounding gang member Richard Mendoza, 32
Full video here.

The officer was wounded, but survived. It all went down in about 2 seconds.

Another unnecessary killing of a minority by the police. He should have been given the opportunity to surrender.

Guess he didn't want to go back to jail. Glad there are no officer fatalities, get well to the officer who was shot. Good shooting, officer.

Tha' communerty, #blm, aclu, copa, the media and

put in the administrative jack-pot to be suspended,
terminated, criminally prosecuted, imprisoned,
civilly sued with heavy punitive damages, and subjected

"This be OUR revenge against y'all!"

Oh yeah...

Wow, things can turn to shit in a hurry. Even watching from the passenger side didn't detect the gun. I'm glad the passenger side officer was able to put the guy down and didn't get hit. But knowing the LAPD, they'll jam up the cop for the shot to the douchebag while he was on the ground.

Here's hoping the officer shot makes a full recovery without muscle damage.

Second video I’ve seen (I’m sure there’s more) of LAPD doing an excellent job of presenting the shooting and breaking down the incident. Chicago could learn a thing or 2 instead of half assed info and relying on the media to get the info out by interviewing “witnesses.” Last video I saw like this involved a person with a knife in which bystander was killed as well, but with the video, you could obviously see what a shitty position the officer was in.

Thank god she survived.

Only a few minor things could have been done differently in my opinion. Overall, an OUTSTANDING job during a terrible situation.

Prayers for the wounded LAPD Officer. I hope she makes a full recovery and has no scarring on her leg.

Excellent shoot by her partner--glad the suspect is history.

Well done LAPD If that was Chicago that last shot would have the Officer indicted. Crook county where the inmates run the asylum and the Good guys are made out to be the bad guys. And If Prickwinkle is elected Mayor it will only get worse.

Troll reader: It will not command the attention of the media and the typical American will not see it nearly as many times as they would if the police were shooting an honor student. It simply does not support the news media agenda. But it ended well and the right person is shot dead. Good work by the partner who did a superb job in my opinion.

In Chicago there’d be witnesses coming out of the woodwork claiming the police planted the gun.
COPA would demand, why didn’t the police runaway and seek cover? That will be part of the new use of force coming...

Scary as Hell! Worst of all? She obviously knew who he was, whe she said " Haven't seen you in a while", and the piece of shit still shot her.
Thank God she's going to be ok, and for the fast actions of her partner. In my opinion? Every unit should have two officers. Stay safe, always back each other up, trust no one out there! Blessings to all of you!

The problem with the Liberal Asshats is the don't comprehend the concept of there is no way to rationalize irrational behavior. The want to point the finger at the person who has to deal with it and make a split second decision. Look at the dearly departed "barber" , he is in Chicago has a FOID card , yes he is gonna lose his pistol. However he is most likely getting an I-Bond and goin on his merry way. But instead he choose the irrational course of action and ended up dead.

Once again, I never walked up to a traffic stop without, discreetly, having my gun drawn and by my side. The driver or passenger never knew I had it out.

As a retired Cook County APD officer, this wouldn't have happen...the offender would have known a violation of probation rarely results in IDOC....caught with a gun while on paper...stern warning from Judge, re released on EM.

OT: Did you see the video from Washington state where the well up brought youngsters robbed a convenience store while the clerk was on the floor unconscious suffering a heart attack. What must go on inside a human head when instead of calling 911 for help one decides to rob and keep coming back and keep robbing a store? When you are this morally deteriorated you simply cannot be rehabilitated. Absolutely disgusting.

These people are not to be coddled. The officer's partner--not the court system--solved the gangster problem correctly.

Best Wishes for the wounded Officer, Get Well soon and I hope there's no lasting damage (muscles, tendons, ligaments).

Now, as to the shooting itself: What does: COPA, the ACLU, all the 'Police Policy Experts' sitting in their cushy university offices navel-gazing, and all the 'community activists', have to say about situations like this? Is there a Special Form they'd like filled out?

How about something from Mr Fenner? Oops, I mean the soon to be EX-mayor, Tiny Dancer? (everyone knows Supt Fenner's just a sock-puppet for Rahm) Can I take a WAG (wild ass guess) and blame "Lax Gun Laws". Ooops again, can't do that. This was in Lost Angels the land of Draconian Gun Laws.

Oh well, since this was obviously a Justified Police Shooting all the talking heads, whiners and the perpetually aggrieved, will just flush this down the memory hole.

By 3:00 pm it'll be 'What LAPD Shooting?'

LAPD is one of the most squared away police departments in the country. We should do the same thing when we have officer involved shootings. The mayor and superintendent purposefully delay and give wishy washy statements and that justs adds fuel to the fire. Better to get out ahead of it and make a public statement clearly ilkustrating that there was a savage and he git shot.

Not unless a catered-to constituency bitches enough
about how The Police, "didn't give him a chance to
surrender/had they guns out which is racist and unfair"
you won't see this video blowing up unless the media
takes up the cause/manages to blow up some obscure
procedural infraction and gin it into "Tha' Poleece gettin'
away with murder" outrage.

"The one Cop was BRAVE!
She showed discipline and
restraint by not shooting...

Why couldn't the OTHER Cop
excercise the same restraint?

get the investigation we want."

That officer did a fantastic job getting those shots off as quickly as he did, especially when the bad guy turned almost immediately after shooting the officer. Not only retuning fire but ducking to avoid being shot. Doubt he will get in trouble for shooting the idiot on the ground. Good chance guy was still trying to shoot him or the officer saw movement and felt him was endanger of being shot. Definitely a good shoot, even in LA

OT. Read an article in the Times today about the VanDyke trial and jury selection. The jury selection is being done in a small room, not in the courtroom. Room has judge Gaughan, prosecutors, defense attorneys What also was stated was a community organizer, William Calloway who secured a permit for the protests in front of the courthouse, also called for massive uprisings in the city if Van Dyke is acquitted and once supposedly referred to Van Dyke as a “racist murderer” was allowed to sit in the room while jurors were interviewed. It was in Herbert’s motion. How can that be possible?

Being able to have your gun out? WTF do these aaaholes think this is the wild west? The aaahole had a choice hands up and surrender or hospital/morgue!!!
Gee the whole thing happened in like (2) two minutes!!! You mean the Officers didn't have an hour to think it over and figure out the best way to do it like Doctors, Dentists, Lawyers, FUCKING POLITICIANS.....and oh yeah BTW they all fuck up on a larger percentage than the police and their lives, property and families are insured.....unlike the police who have to live with a mistake and at the same time lose everything in the process EVEN WHEN THEY DID THE RIGHT THING!!!
DEMO"RATS" should have bounties, that would balance the city, county, & state budgets!!!

She seemed to get to casual with him knowing he was on probation. He was a suspect and asking him if he had anything thing, then answering it with right? Not a normal interrogation of a suspect

How are you doing? Haven’t seen you in a while. Still on probation. Don’t have anything on you , right?ar’ you

No doubt after the fact the reports may well have mentioned that guns were drawn prior to the incident. Reporting the facts of the matter does not seem to have had any negative impact. The cop seemed awful casual about an encounter with a known violent thug though.

352pm we don't need to know why they stopped him or got him out of the car. They don't live/work in Cook County. She knew he was on probation. That in itself can be grounds for a stop and search. Outside of the great county of Cook, and glorious State of Illinois parole and probation are granted with a waiver of your fourth amendment rights. The individual is still under state/county custody technically which subjects you to similar seizures as if you were behind bars.

Actually she didn’t know he was on probation? By her own admission. She asked “are you still on probation?@. If she knew she wouldn’t have had to ask. Also did she know who was driving the car when she stopped him. If you are following a car and stop them you don’t know who’s driving it. Not sure about the waiver. You mean police can stop a person on probation anytime for no reason?
