As many of you may have already heard, the jury came back today with a verdict in the
case against Jason Van Dyke. We are a department of 13,000 individuals, each
one of us with a differing opinion about this case. However, now that the
judicial process is over we must respect the verdict of the jury and come
together as a department to do the job we were sworn to do.
Police officers have to make split second decisions without being afforded the
opportunity of hindsight or back up. We make those split second decisions based
solely on the information available at hand. We are not afforded the luxury of
playback or slow motion. We understand the great responsibility and stress that
comes with our job, and I truly believe that not one of us leaves for work with
the intention of taking someone's life. But we also understand that possibility
is a grim reality that comes with the job. Our goal at the end of the day is to
go home safe to our families.
Now that the verdict is behind us, our job is to continue to serve the citizens of
Chicago with the professionalism that you display every day and to protect the
rights of everyone that lives and visits this great city. We will ensure that
those who wish to express their views are given the opportunity to do so lawfully.
Hold your heads up high knowing what you do everyday matters. Hold your head up
high knowing that the star you wear on your chest represents an oath, a great
honor, an even greater sacrifice. I know you may encounter those out there who
will oppose you because of the uniform you wear. But I want you to know, that
as Superintendent, I have met many citizens who are thankful for the work you
do and difficulties you face every day. Whether you are working a protest or in
the district, please look out for one another.

No riots, Expected to see riots no matter the verdict but disappointed to see JVD convicted for doing his job as he saw it. A sad day for Chicago that will result in injuries in the future to both civilian and to police. Hesitation will cause lives to be lost and the resentment on both sides of this issue will do nothing to heal the division between the community and police. Most of all I hope the JVD family can find a way to live with what just happened to them. Like some others have asked is there a ligament fund raising sight that I could contribute to that would help the JVD family? FLSA is based on the total number of hours you work in a period. The threshold is different for everyone based on RDO’s, if you took time due during the period, and of course how much overtime you worked. It’s not double time and half. My FLSA rate on this last overtime check was about $10 more per hour for the FLSA hours, but it is more. Maybe your timekeeper can explain it a little better than I though.
Regarding Jason Van Dyke's family you can donate at the credit union by putting your donation into Tiffany Van Dyke account. A receipt will be given. I did that the next day. Get the word out. This family needs help.

I had a two year AA from Daley College and had ZERO biz experience and I started a successful business and I now employ 6 people full time. What started off as extra cash for a side business blossomed into a real business that earns just under $1M annually for my team. I'm not here to brag about my success but no tell you if I did you can too. I was able to retire at age 49 with 20 years on the job. Again my point isn't to brag about it but get you motivated to set an exit strategy. So many of you that I worked with over the years in 022, 007 and 012 and PHS had no foresight and planning back in the day. Most never thought about tomorrow. And God forbid I started asking about future plans, investments, etc. it was like speaking in Swahili to most of you.
I always see guys/gals watching Netflix/playing video games at work rather than studying or planning. People laughed at me when I started my biz while in PHS under Ernie Brown. I now live in Costa Rica, own two condos outright and run my biz from CR and invest in the stock market and day trade and sometimes pull in $3,000/day. When I tell most people I was a cop for 20 years and they see what I've accomplished they don't think I'm being truthful until I show my retirement star/ID.
Again I am not bragging about it. I'm just telling you that if I did it there's no reason most of you can't do the same and leave in 20 years. It would sicken me when I'd talk to a copper and he/she'd tell me they don't retire because X, Y, Z. Can't figure out what to do with themselves once they retire. And my favorite one of all that I hear day in/day out is, (drum roll please) "I got kids in college, I can't retire" well LMFAO on that. I retired with a 7 year old who is in 2nd grade and is being raised in Costa Rica on the beach.
Jealous? Don't be jealous. Quit fucking watching Netflix and do something with your free time while sitting at work. It's not that hard!!! I literally ran my biz between calls while working in PHS and 009 and 022 and still did job at CPD. Granted I never got promoted past P.O. but I can tell you right now (and I'm LOL) I probably have more net worth right now than most retired Commanders even with them running their bullshit suburban department post retirement lol.
Even if you decide that "Hey I don't want to do any extracurricular shit while doing my CPD job" then fine. Be legit at CPD time but you still have another 8 hours a day to do something else besides working security at WalMart.
Set an exit plan guys. Not "I'm done in 20" with no strategy. So many times I'd hear a copper tout they are out in 20 and they are going in 6 months and 6 years later I still see them at 26th/Cal, lol.
For a regular tour that you work overtime there is no scenerio where double time or double time and a half comes into play regardless of how much you work; one caveat is if you work your RDO and it's a holiday then you would get 20 comp and 4 hours holiday pay or 24 hours comp time option. Remember for the 6th and 7th day work day to come into play it must be worked between Sunday to Saturday, Remember the old 6-2 schedule we never worked six days between a Sunday and Saturday. For RDO cancelled you would get a minimum of 8 hours or time and one half whichever is greater. Take a look at contract page 28 to 29 for more info.
We should all be placed on administrative leave until the statute is rewritten and we are retrained.

Well...I am no longer holding my head up nor am I making the greater sacrifice. The way I see it, my remaining time on this job is for me and my family only. Working holidays, missing family events, having others reschedule their events to accommodate my shitty schedule, going to court on my days off, having days off cancelled, working mandatory overtime, being shot at, arriving at work only to find out co-workers (yes coworkers-plural) have killed themselves, not to mention responding to thousands of calls for service while dealing with tens of thousands of hate filled citizens means that I have already made the sacrifice.

There is no double time and a half, FLSA is figured after you work more than 18 hours (actually worked) in a 28 day period. So, once you work 168 hours in 28 days, FLSA kicks in, and it’s a percentage of your hourly wage. So for myself as a sgt it’s near 11 bucks an hour extra. That’s why you can’t earn more than 18 hours of comp time a 28 day pay period.

Working the marathon detail today. About an hour into the race, majority of officers related that their radios were chirping and needed new batteries. Several of the salt trucks used to block intersections broke down and had to be towed out. Some boss screaming about that he is not afraid to spar an officer. What a circus!
The problem with this fucking job right now is that we are being led by a bunch of people who are "cloutified" rather than "qualified". Hey Boss...we know you're stupid. Thanks for proving it day after day.

Would you expect the bosses to put veterans that have spent time in south and west side districtscto be placed in those districts the FOP got slickered when the allowed the city to place PPO’s in any diteict prior to getting off probation, therefore bypassing the bid process. My wife and I just interviewed for what currently will be a side job, but has some potential to it, and doesn’t involve police work one bit. I have roughly 5 years to hit 20, and after this past week, I have 100% made up my mind that I am getting out and moving on. I am/was no dog on this job. The past few years made me slow down, and after this past week, I am going full-on comatose in terms of proactivity. I will handle my jobs in the most professional manner that I can. I am more than willing to help my fellow PO’s and PPO’s with their assigned jobs as well. Outside of that, this job is straight up dead to me! If you have less than 5 years on this job, and want to stay in Law enforcement, then start applying in other Cities right now! Do not ride this dog and pony show out to find out where it’s heading, which is nowhere good! The Medias’ and Citizens’ misguided reaction to this trial this weekend summed it all up for me. It easily made up my mind for me, and I am going to focus all of my efforts into developing my own business. Good luck Chicago!

A lot of people are asking about a GoFund Me page to donate to the VanDyke family, but the last GoFund Me effort was stopped and taken down by GoFund Me because of their alleged policy about raising money for people who are alleged to be involved in criminal activity. They refunded the money back to everyone. That was four years ago when his wife was trying to raise money for his bond.
So, either the New Go0Fund Me page has to be a benefit for the VanDyke family and it has to be carefully worded to say that they for the unforseen future do not have a husband and father to support the family etc, or their needs to be a Po box (or similar) established by an individual not currently under the rules and regulations of the Chicago Police or Fire Departments. Perhaps a wife or husband, or someone who knows the family well enough to get ALL of the donations to them. You cannot establish an alias po box under an assumed name without risking the wrath of the FBI. And they will be looking for it.

I know you mean well, but that biased and misinformed jury found him guilty of every count of Agg Batt, so they made the entire use of force not justified, which doesn't fit state law. Essentially, police officers can no longer use deadly force on armed offenders attempting to defeat arrest. That verdict was a disgrace.
