Hoax?

Got this via e-mail this past afternoon:


Anyone know if the FOP knows about a job survey? And does anyone have any actual proof of this "implicit bias"?

Or is this just another of those "It's true because we say it is" moments?

Implicit Bias is a phrase made up by the Holder Just Us Department to do a consent decree on a department. They couldn't find any actual bias so they said the department was guilty of Implicit Bias for arresting criminals who happened to be black or brown.

Fuck up the stats... If it's truly anonymous, no one's going to know it's "you".

Assuming 5 choices per question, something like this will throw their analysis for a loop

Q3) C
Q4) D
Q5) E

....

and so on...

For "essay" style questions, the proper response is: N/A, None, Zero, or any word you happen to make up....

It is real. There have been pre-test and pre-surveys in the past with some training. This class is going to prove to every officer that takes it that we all have some sort of bias to something (and not instinct or obvious criminal behavior) that leads us to stops. I told little Al F (who’s baby this is) that he is right; mine was to short balding Italians who think they belong on the Sopranos. He wasn’t pleased.... But yeah, welcome to PJ3 which got tons of funding from the ACLU.

I think it's a good step forward. I didn't realize it before, but having lived and worked in Chicago all my life I have definitely developed an implicit bias against Democrat politicians and the lackies they put in the judiciary.

Not hard to figure out answers just fly in face of common sense. Everyone on face of the earth is biased even the Pope. His bias is against anyone not Catholic, what's good enough for the Pope is good enough for me. I will continue my bias no matter what they have on the stupid e-learning course. You can't change human nature no matter how hard you try. So where is the community e-learning course posted? That's what I thought another one way street. I answered “neutral” for any answers that had that choice. Then there was a bar that they want you to slide from 0 to 100 to represent how
you feel about different groups. I slid the bar a hair to the right and it still read 0 but the survey took that as an acceptable answer so that was my my answer regarding every group. I hate everybody. Then of course this anonymous survey asks your race, gender, age, time on job, rank, education level, etc. Typical Dept bullshit.

OT posted a month ago that car jacking would become the crime of the month once weather started changing, and that is exactly what is happening. Will only get worse as weather moves into winter mode. License scanners will not stop it, might recover some cars but will not stop crime. Since the CPD will not chase this becomes a crime that has absolutely no consequences. In the highly unlikely event of being caught no charges will be approved. And they wonder why this is happening.

Our department just finished a few rounds of this type of training. Pretty much as stated above. Although I would change "white and male" to "white male or male." I'm not white but I am a male. And it was pretty brutal.

Back in the mid-90's I was a department supervisor. Most of the employees were great and we got along very well. But, there were two women who constantly produced a poor work product, were late, lazy, sloppy or dirty dress and a host of other issues. I counseled both of them, often and returned their work to be redone. One lady was white and the other lady was black. I was accused of being "anti-women" and of being a racist. I was hit on both fronts. Nothing came of these complaints, but it was upsetting to have them filed against me. Nothing happened to either employee and they continued on their merry way of mediocrity.

Bottom line so many incidences, bring your lunch not hard to do, as a matter of fact personally we go out watch sales fire up that grill chicken breast good hot or cold on sandwich, if I want hot meal use the microwave in station,or stop at firehouse 7-11 heat it up, gran a case of yogurt from costco or Sam's,maybe some chips bam you got a meal you prepared and don't have to worry about some pos spitting on, or adding poison caustic substance to your food! You don't want that to lazy, get some natural lunch meat bread there you go easy and better than that garbage in restaurants!

A few months ago about five of us guys were talking. Two female PPO's come out and they are on their cell phones. One of the guys shares a joke that is sexual in nature about two gay guys.

Within 30 minutes we are all brought in to the watch commander's office. A few days later we are all given a verbal reprimand.

If those two female officers had issues then what the fuck are they doing listening in on a private conversation? If someone's joke offends you, then don't listen to it.

A lot of liberal snowflakes are coming on to this job.

Everyone has implicit bias. Period. It does not mean you are bias against blacks if you are white or against whites if you are black. We all have a favorite color we don't really think about, but when it comes time to pick a shirt or a car, we pick blue, because we are implicitly bias towards blue. Implicit bias are our subconscious choices. we don'y really think of them until we are stressed. It is not that big a deal. There is a difference between explicit and implicit bias. Stating on a blog that you hate democrats is explicit Bias. Stating you hate tiny dancer is explicit bias, not implicit bias. Being aware of your implicit bias could actually make you safer.

After retirement, worked for a large metropolitan corporation. They had a similar survey but for rating management etc. When the first survey tanked way below the prior years (which was very good towards management) they gave it again a month later. This time dropping the questions that had a poor response. Never heard the results of the final one...most useless thing I have seen. Why ask if you don't want to know.....

I'm white & work in the private sector. Took one of these years ago. Didn't do too bad as far as black/white is concerned but I readily admit that I harbor some bias against another ethnic group. And yet despite that I have friends of that persuasion because I work at it.

If used properly and with proper follow-up in the right setting from a trained and capable advisor, a survey like this can be revealing, especially when a person views their personal results with an open mind.

Unfortunately, if there's a chance the survey results could end up being permanently attached to someone's personnel file and be used against them in the case of a future action, I can see how this could be damaging to a career.

How much do you trust your employer?

How come the city just doesn't add this training to my jacket the way they do all the other training I never actually received?
I'm not kidding. I looked up all the "supposed" training I have received in my career, and fully 60 percent of it was all bullshit.
I suppose I should be thankful here. I never realized that I was so well trained! Don't forget to print out all of that training so you can add it to your next job application resume.
I have always wondered how many kick back dollars go to city colleges for providing this "ghost" training? There has to be a money trail somewhere...? It is after all the Chicago way...for example, The feds up some money for gas masks and training for the troops. Some troops actually go for training. The gas masks dry up, and the training is halted. Somehow every officers record is updated with the proper training. The gas masks are never fully deployed. Where the grant money goes is anybody's guess. The training academy staff and command look like heroes. Promotions are granted on such historic accomplishment, and yet another merit paper tiger is created.

The cycle continues with the next grant monies...Tell me if I am wrong here.

Reminds me of the time I had to go to an ethnic sensitivity class in early 1990s had to break into groups for discussion. Just went along with the bs and kept my mouth shut. That is until the instructor used the term Jew Town to refer to Maxwell st. I told her how dare you use this bias term. She said that’s all she knew to call the area. So I pointed out to her that you can be black and biased too. No I am not Jewish but thought it was absurd that this specialist in hidden racial bias hired by the city, used insensitive terms.

"Fighting crime" is not the most important mission of the department right now. Somehow getting back into the good graces of the citizens the department is supposed to be serving is. It won't hurt you to gain a small amount of understanding of some of those citizens, the vast majority of whom are law abiding, but kind of out there as for as what used to be considered "normal".

You get paid the same whether you are going to some class on how to understand odd balls or engaging in the revenue model of policing (something the city should kill off and would go a long way in helping bridge the "us and them" division that has developed).

To those of you saying you don't check your department email, please remember that by order you are required to check your email twice during each tour of duty. You do not have to check it off duty, but yiu are required to check it twice while you are at work. Don't get caught in their default trap of failure to complete any task or assignment. That's a real spar charge in the less serious transgression table, and two of those makes the third a cr. Check your email, and anything that looks suspicious or refers you to an outside link, delete as spam.

I see the FOP is endorsing Carlos “Sal” Saladino for retiree rep. Maybe they should know about how good ole’ “Sal” sued two female Po’s from 017 after they gave his weed head son a break when his weed fell from his sweatpants when they made him shake them out. Getting the “police courtesy” wasn’t good enough for Sal. He sued them saying they strip searched his poor little boy. The officers submitted a contact card and guess who disposed of it? Then Sgt Dave McNaughton who worked with Saladino in 014 thought he would do him a solid and pulled the card so as not to leave a record of a coppers kid getting stopped. Unfortunately when it went to trial McNaughton denied ever seeing the card and the two female officers who gave his kid a break on a weed charge were slapped with $15,000 puntative damages each. Think twice if you think this guy is “for coppers”

A few months ago about five of us guys were talking. Two female PPO's come out and they are on their cell phones. One of the guys shares a joke that is sexual in nature about two gay guys.

Within 30 minutes we are all brought in to the watch commander's office. A few days later we are all given a verbal reprimand.

If those two female officers had issues then what the fuck are they doing listening in on a private conversation? If someone's joke offends you, then don't listen to it.

A lot of liberal snowflakes are coming on to this job.

I see the FOP is endorsing Carlos “Sal” Saladino for retiree rep. Maybe they should know about how good ole’ “Sal” sued two female Po’s from 017 after they gave his weed head son a break when his weed fell from his sweatpants when they made him shake them out. Getting the “police courtesy” wasn’t good enough for Sal. He sued them saying they strip searched his poor little boy. The officers submitted a contact card and guess who disposed of it? Then Sgt Dave McNaughton who worked with Saladino in 014 thought he would do him a solid and pulled the card so as not to leave a record of a coppers kid getting stopped. Unfortunately when it went to trial McNaughton denied ever seeing the card and the two female officers who gave his kid a break on a weed charge were slapped with $15,000 puntative damages each. Think twice if you think this guy is “for coppers”

Is this the same Saladino who has kids on the job who are both huge medical abusers.. They. Org have spent more time on the medical than working the street !!

Sadly this is the sick reality of the abnormal world today. That bit I wrote above is actually true, the nutcase "they" person is from BC, Canada and has been fighting to have her kid registered as "gender unknown" so the little girl can make up it's own mind. A few thoughts, unrequested, but, since I just folded to your obvious winning bid.....

No, they can't look into it. Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp. is for private pensions. Not government pensions. It usually only pays a portion of the lost pension. I believe the private pensions pay premiums for this coverage (not sure).

A simple example of what is wrong with CPD--NO accountability.
Trust me- IT runs reports and knows exactly who has or has not accessed email (including mandatory e-learning) and the bosses are notified- and don't know anyone who has been gigged.
Why doesn't the department start addressing the little things- attendance, appearance, adherence to email rule---yes, like kindergarten....but of course bosses need to comply also
