Why So Many Judges?

Is this something? (click for larger version)

If you read the table from right to left, the numbers of cases in all categories goes down. From 2012 to 2016, Civil cases dropped by over 120,000, Domestic cases down 7,000, Juvenile cases another 6,000, even criminal cases are down 100,000 and then some.

Shouldn't the Courts be shrinking along with the case load? Fewer Assistant States Attorney, a bunch few public defenders and lord knows you don't need as many judges. Who's running on the "cut government" platform?

Keep dreaming, SCC. The criminal justice system of Crook County is the hideout for the clouted and incompetent and is untouchable for reform.

OH MY

nobody is counting the amount of continuances per judge!
All those clownish domestics having 3 continuances just for the women not to show up.

They do keep track

also keep in mind judges not doing anything on fridays just putting status hearing and being done within an hour.

Another good reason to vote no on all judges seeking retention unless you have first hand knowledge of a judge's ability.

The only thing shrinking is how many hours a judge actually spends in court.

Tribune says we should vote against these three judges. Make me want to vote for them especially Boyle and Coghlan who are pro-police. Rock on.

228: Judge Maura Slattery Boyle was rated “not qualified” by the Council of Lawyers. The group says she can be insensitive to criminal defendants and “issues very harsh sentences” compared to other judges. We’re more concerned about her track record for having cases reversed on appeal. The council’s report cites two examples in which the Appellate Court found evidentiary errors so serious that it sent the cases back with instructions to assign them to a different judge. That undermines confidence in our criminal justice system.

232: Judge Matthew Coghlan also was rated “not qualified” by the Council of Lawyers, which cited a case in which the Appellate Court twice overturned his decision not to grant a rehearing for a defendant who said he’d confessed to murder after being tortured by detectives working for disgraced Chicago police Lt. Jon Burge. Remarkably, the Cook County Democratic Party — which routinely urges a “yes” vote on all Democratic judicial candidates, regardless of performance — is recommending a “no” vote on Coghlan. That’s based largely on his alleged role as a prosecutor in two wrongful convictions.

314: The Chicago Bar Association singled out Judge Lisa Ann Marino as not worthy of retention. Elected in 2012, she apparently got off to a very bad start. The group’s investigation raised “significant concerns about Judge Marino’s work ethic, punctuality, diligence and knowledge of the law.” Cook County voters should demand more from a $202,000-a-year employee.

For Democrats, the words "cut" and "government" will never be used in the same sentence.

How does the clearance rate increase—to over 100%—over the same period in several categories?

Need to cut positions right away.

Wait until the consent decree is in place. You can cut the states attorneys and judges by atleast 25% due to a lower volume of cases being presented by officers and detectives. It’s just a matter of time before this is going to be the new reality. This could be a good thing and might save tax payers some money.

Why? Because if you are an incompetent lawyer you have to be judge. A good lawyer can make double what a judge can. If you noticed most lawyers trying to make the bench now lack seniority in the profession. Sad.

Going to court lately is a pleasure,as the rooms have so much extra space, and the judges throw out cases rapidly no matter how "solid!" How about cutting judges by at least 1/3 which would save us about a 100 million plus, considering the huge staffs all judges have. Like any company when the business slows down and the employees (judges) don't do their jobs they are let go,laid-off and if this was performance review many judges would be told "your fired" as they well should be!

Query: Why so many politicians?

Response: Because there is no method yet developed to convert them into edible, let alone tasty, form.

The surplus of judges are a flat out WASTE! First, they let the vast majority go free. The priority is to dispose of the cases (not to prosecute). In juvenile ct, nothing ever happens to the offenders . They get probation on top of existing probation. Second, they play GOD, with no accountability. Save the taxpayer $ and eliminate some of these positions.

In answer to your question on who's running on the "cut government" platform, that would be conservatives. Unfortunately, conservatives mostly moved out of this state long ago. We're fucked.

Clearance rates jump because the exponential rate Kim Foxx and her office plea cases down to lesser crimes and even lighter, if any sentences. It’s kangaroo court. Get used to it.

The court will in fact shrink if Toni has her way. She claims it’s too expensive to do the needed repairs on Belmont/Western, so the courts there (AND at 51/Wentworth) have to close, agreement was supposedly a done deal with Chief Judge Evans and against whom Toni has carried a grudge for YEARS).
The defendants might get bus service for the first 30 days - I guess if they’ve thrown away their bond slips & forgotten when to go, but no such consideration proposed for the victims.
But. Look at this logically. Farther to travel to court (toni thinks the “next nearest” is Grand/Central) will discourage even more complainants/witnessed from going in. Cases will be DWP & not SOL. And the police will get further blame when it isn’t our fault!

SCC please let everybody know... CBS just aired a story of Police Officer Tito Rodriguez who was killed on his way to work in the 006th District while on his motorcycle 4 years ago. The story spoke to how Kim Foxx’s office told her ASA’s to tell Rodriguez’ family that they will be dismissing the charges of reckless homicide without even consulting the family. Witnesses and experts have worked hard in this case and have the proof to show that the jagoff driving the car was in fact, RECKLESS, and took this P.O.s life 4 years ago. Now because of the Foxx’s political agenda, this asshole is going to walk free on Monday at the next court call at 26/Cal. If someone finds the link to the story that just aired, please share it!!! Flood the courtroom to support the family of Officer Rodriguez and to let the ASA know how incompitent they are!!! The family of one of our fallen really needs your help and support right now!!!!

This is nothing more than a demonstration that we all know is fact. There is a scale down of justice in Cook County that is facilitating an increase in street crime across the board in Chicago and to an extent Cook County at large. Grand Bozo's like Dart and Frecwinkle have their own reasons for doing what they do. Him closing divisions to save money and she turning a blind eye to crime along with Judges reducing their work load all result in bloodshed everywhere. There is no mystery as to why someone is killed on the street in Chicago about every 17 hours. It is the expected result in a breakdown of governance and sound public administration.
