Evacuating a hospital seems like a logistical nightmare. Congrats to the staff at Mercy and the other responders if they pulled it off!
Prayer To Saint Michael The Archangel - St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. As a regular citizen I am so tired of hearing about police officers hurt and killed by these bottom feeding animals. The words "I'm sorry" does not even begin to Express how I feel and I know it doesnt make anyone feel better. There are too many names on the police memorial wall and now there is another name too many.
As a regular citizen I want so much to help or to support all of you officers who protect us, but what can i do? More than anything in the world I would love to be one of you but unfortunately I cant. If there would be any way I can help and support you, I would do it.
Just know there are citizens out there that would step in and help if you needed it. I am so sorry for this officer losing his life over a piece of trash.
Is it confirmed the officer passed?
So sad for the rookie kid otj. Pray for him and his family.

Every death of an officer is tragic, but this one tonight hurts even more. He was just beginning to find his way. May God bless.
My heartfelt condolences to the officer's family as well as the other two victims's families.
Totally senseless.
Prayers to his family. May they take pride that while others run from danger, he ran towards it...he gave his life for strangers...who else does that?
Thank God for the thin blue line.

R. I.P. My fallen brother.
Rest-in-Peace, Officer... And my sincere condolences to the CPD for this tragic loss of one of your own...
An ordinary citizen. This is heartbreaking. It's time CPD gets the respect and support it deserves.
Hello. My name is Jane Doe. I can't say my name because I was told if I talk to the police or talk to the media I will lose my consulting assignment with Mercy Hospital & Medical Center. I was there today onsite. I saw first hand what happened. I ushered dozens of employees into a conference room so they could hide behind a locked door. Then I went into the lobby to see if I could help. With my own eyes, I saw a gunman open fire on police officers. I saw a police officer fall to the ground. I've since learned that this young officer lost his life.
This man, this incredibly brave man, gave his life trying to save me. Trying to save all those employees hiding. Trying to protect out hospital.
Officer Samuel Jimenez I thank you.
Because of you and your bravery, countless people are safe tonight. Because of you I made it home safe tonight despite my officer being riddled with bullets.
My deepest gratitude and my tears are just a small, simple gift that I give you. May your family know that you are a true hero!!!! Sadly, I saw your blood but I also saw your gift.... You gave your life so my co-workers and I could go home to our loved ones tonight.
I, we, are forever in your debt. May you Rest in Peace Hero Jimenez. You are our Angel.
Please keep in mind all the Officers, Detectives, and Evidence techs that have to deal with the scene and not have time to mourn this tragic lost of a brother in blue. God bless the Chicago Police Department.
Condolences to the family of officer Jimenez and all of CPD. I was going to say especially this time of year but there is no good time for God to call you, especially when you are only 28 years old and only 18 months on the job. A very brave young man serving our city and those at the hospital today. He will be missed and he will not be forgotten.
God bless all of our CPD officers and their families. You continue to make me proud. Running into gunfire while others run from it. the police should not only be called the finest but they deserve the the distinction of being the bravest as well! RIP PO Jimenez, thank you for your service. You paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting us from the evil in this world. We will never forget you or any officer that has laid down his life for his fellow man.
My heart is absolutely broken for the family and all members of the CPD that have lost yet another HERO today. Yes he mattered very much. He ran toward what everyone else ran from, Bless him. All of you are in my prayers.
Thank you for your service Officer. May you rest in peace and may God comfort your family.
So sorry for the PO. RIP Brother. You honored us all, and will be remembered by all.
Myself and my family will pray for you and your family, and all those others out there facing this same stuff everyday.
This is just a Godless society. Is there any hope for us?
Thank you. Your life mattered. Youโre wife will weep, your children may not understand but we you brothers and sisters will carry you. We will carry what was lost, we will carry what burden. Thank you brother. Rest In Peace Sam.
This afternoon I was in my office at Mercy Hospital and I heard dozens upon dozens of shots fired. Bullets were coming thru the walls, like something on tv. My desk phone wouldn't call out to 911 for some reason & my cell wouldn't call out either. All I could do is Tweet & text. I literally tweeted the CPD & Anthony G letting them know we had an active shooter. Within minutes, CPD was there. Heroes pulled up & I knew we'd be ok. But - not everyone was ok. My heart is truly broken to hear that a PO lost his life. My heart is broken that 2 of our employees lost their lives. What makes this situation even sadder is that the people who were killed were people who devoted their lives to saving those of others. Some saved lives thru medicine and one thru law enforcement. You have all left us way too soon.
RIP Officer Jimenez. Condolences to the families and friends of all of the victims.
May the citizens of Chicago sleep safer tonight.
A young Officer has protected your lives and sacrificed his own life this day
Rest In Peace my brother, may your life be Remebered as a Great man.
You will Never be Forgotten
The Blue Line has lost some color today, but will always be Blue, and will alway be there for Chicago.
I am so sad today.
Much respect for the Officer who ran towards the sound of the guns. May the Officer rest in peace and loved one find some peace and comfort soon.
Not a cop. I have no words, just tears.
RIP Officer Jimenez. My deepest condolences and sympathy to his wife, children, family, friends, and fellow Chicago Police Officers.
It is always sad to lose a member of our "Blue Family" but what makes the loss of Officer Jimenez particularly gut-wrenching is that today I was there at Mercy Medical Center and I was in the lobby when this disaster unfolded. My life is literally one that PO Samuel Jimenez saved today. The abundance of gratitude that I have for his heroism is indescribable! You saved many, many lives today Sir and I thank you for saving mine!
Love and prayers to you all, my brothers and sisters in blue. Hard times.
R.I.P. Brother.

Kudos to WGN to sticking with full coverage, from the very start, up to procession. All other news went to their prime time television at 7pm. RIP Brother.
Officer Samuel Jimenez RIP, God Bless You.
You will probably will be called "kid" in the cop section of heaven.
Please take it with smile, someone with less seniority will probably follow soon.
God bless all of the police!
So sorry to hear CPD lost another brave soul today. May his family and friends find strength in the coming sad days. May he and the other innocent victims of todayโs shooting Rest In Peace.
"Jimenez, 28, was married with three small children."
Damnit. Let us know of any charitable efforts for his family.
Thanks to all of the protectors of good.
Never forget the fallen. Never.
God bless you and your family officer. Your loss is too great. You will surely be missed by us all.
I read this regarding the death of Officer Jimenez.
It re-weaves some of the tattered fabric of our beloved police department.
G-d Speed Officer Jimenez, taken much too soon from his family.
"When they pulled up, they heard the gunshots and they did what heroic officers always do, they ran towards that gunfire. So they werenโt assigned to the call. They just went. Because thatโs what we do."
What a hero. Runs right into hell to help a bunch of strangers. Truly a hero Rest In Peace brother and be safe CPD
This is heartbreaking. Sincere condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives today.
โWhen they pulled up, they heard the gunshots, and they did what the heroic officers always do โ they ran towards that gunfire,โ Johnson said. โThey werenโt assigned to that particular call but they went, because thatโs what we do.โ
To the women and men of CPD, you are heroes. Thank you so much for your service.
Too dam sad. Bless all of those behind the badge. Those who run towards the gun fire. Those who do the job and sadly pay the ultimate price. Lord, please look out for his brothers in blue. They have the watch now.
I have been retired for 3 yrs now and I still feel like another little piece of my heart has died tonight. This was another example of the heroism that officers display every day running toward an armed, active shooter to try to save the lives of strangers. Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. May God hold you in the palm of his hand and give the officers family strength at this horrible time. May God look over the families of the other victims here. Completely senseless!
RIP Officer Jimenez, the doctor/victim and other victim. Thank God our other brother was saved by his gun. I donโt know many people in 001/002, but you all stepped up to the plate. Saw the strike/stinger, or whatever the new name is for 4-man response teams, and just made me so proud of fellow blue shirts. Men, women, black, brown, white but all were BLUE and rushed in, were willing to sacrifice themselves to save other officers and innocent people.
Prayers to the families suffering, especially PO Jimenezโ children. Your EOW came far too early, brother, and we are all beyond saddened by that.
Rest in peace, officer. My condolences to the men and women of 002 and all officers in the department. Thank you for everything you do every day, even when so many people have the nerve to speak poorly of you in the media and in general. You are true heroes today and every day.
RIP Brother
This sucks. (again) RIP Officer Jimenez.
I watched the prossecion on youtube...heartbreaking. rip to the fallen officer...and my sincere condolences to his family. Thank you to all cpd and firemen....
To the Men and Women of CPD, the pain never really goes away. It hides and resurfaces over and over. We are in an age of being blamed for all of societies ills. We are also experiencing extremely poor leadership within CPD as well as a department strangled by politics like never seen before.
We all lost a friend, brother, partner, son, husband and father today. Letโs keep an eye on each other and encourage seeking assistance when that time arrives.
What an incredibly honorable job we do all year round.
Itโs OK to smile during this trying time. We all think and feel the same during these times, we just donโt share our thought with each other enough. It helps.
Love all of you.
Keep the Faith.
Rest In Peace
Godโs grace
Officer Jimenez showed EVERYONE
what a "Warrior Cop" is made of...
He's now safely in the arms of
our Heavenly Father.
Lord Jesus, intercede for us.
Holy Spirit, fall afresh upon us
and grant us the peace that surpasses
all understanding as we try our best
to press on after our brother was so
violently snatched from our midst.
May our brother rest in everlasting peace.
Heartfelt condolences to his family and his
Police family...

I work at a hospital in Chicago, part research and part clinician, working with one of the most famous physicians in the city (nationally and internationally famous). I have been reading this blog on and off for years as sort of a window into the unpromoted, and often unfortunate, truths that go unreported in a field of activity (in this case, policework). I am sure there are such blogs for other fields, but it has become clear to me over time, just from this blog combined with the media's anti-police hysteria, that being a police officer is far, far more difficult than being a physician. And God Bless the physician who was murdered today, but she was the targeted victim, and it was Officer Jimenez's job - his job! - to deal with this crazy nut and try to come out alive. All the while wearing a camera to document for vultures sitting around later leisurely questioning every action with hindsight, plenty of time, and a thirst for a scapegoat. Many of you are truly unsung heroes, for lack of a better phrase, and I want you to know that many of us normal citizens see that every time we look past those tacky reflective vests you have to wear and see people in uniform, who, through their work, and despite dealing with this corrupt and failing system, uphold themselves, their families, our neighbors, and our society.
St. Michael, Prince of the Heavenly Host, escort our brother to the waiting arms of the LORD.
I've been retired over 15 years and my heart is still breaking.
God Bless Us. God Save the CPD....

May you rest in the arms of the Lord. You made the most Christ-like act anyone could do, sacrifice and for that I know you're in heaven brother. May G-d bless and give your loved ones strength and help them find peace and serenity in the midst of their pain. You are forever a hero in my eyes and in the eyes of many many more.
May GOD's peace be with this hero and his family as well as with all of the victims of today's senseless act of domestic violence.
Rest in Peace young man. Thank you for saving lives.

I personally knew officer Jimenez. He was one of nicest people you could meet. Proud to wear the badge and eager to learn. Always with a smile on his face. He served his city proudly and with courage. Today we lost a great human being. Thank you for all the good you did sam. We love you and we will miss you. Rest in peace brother, we have your watch now.

Retired suburban sergeant here. No matter what our patch says, we are all brothers and sisters in blue. Godspeed officer. And to the families of the doctor and the pharmacy tech who were killed by the cowardly shooter, their dedication to saving lives is what their legacy is. Three young lives tragically snuffed out by a maniac. RIP to all three victims. My the good Lord hold you in his arms.
Prayers aznd condolences my heart goes out to the officers family and CPD
RIP Officer. We are all proud of you.
My prayers are for Officer Jimenez and his family. As well as all PO's active & retired. No prayers for the shooter. Rot for all eternity in the hottest corner of Hell you bastard.
When tragedies like this happen, there's always a link of some kind to underscore the sadness. We read that the officer leaves behind a wife and several little kids, we read about his hopes and aspirations, his recent achievements, the proximity to anniversaries and in this case upcoming holidays, or the pride the family had in him for being the first to graduate college or police academy. All of this means much to those in the law enforcement community. Mostly everyone else outside family will forget because its too damn commonplace. I do my best to remember every officer who gave his life when I was among you. Bosak, VanSchaak, Doyle, Fahey, O'Brien, Clark, Hauser and Kilroy, Riordan, Bauer and others, too many that an aging memory strains to recall the names. But through all the years that go by, the sadness of their passing lingers. I tell my friends and family that there's nothing sadder than a killed in the line of duty funeral. And it's still true, there isn't. Please stay safe, and watch out for each other. Bless you all.
When this story hit I immediately thought of officer michael ceriale. I was on duty 20 years ago when he was shot. We all loaded up and went down to the hospital to donate blood. I will be stopping by his memorial tonite at horner park to say a prayer for him and also for officer jimenez. As much as we get dumped on when the bell rings we are always up to the challenge.
RIP WARRIOR
I agree with the previous poster regarding WGN. I was impressed with the heartfelt commentary and that they went with it all night.A big THANK YOU to WGN. As we say in the biz, Kudos for a Job Well Done !
Deepest condolences and prayers for comfort for the family of Officer Jiminez and for my Brothers and Sisters on the Chicago P.D. Praying also for your safety. From a retired Milwaukee P.D. Lt.

11/19/2018 04:36:00 PM
Although most of it's no longer worth it, it's always of the greatest worth to save the innocent. I'm sure that's what you meant.
RIP Officer God bless your brave soul. We will always remember and NEVER FORGET! Your family will always be in my familyโs prayers. This senseless tragedy is felt ever more this time of your. I havenโt really read any of the previous postings and not sure if it was mentioned but I ask that prayers are also extended to the family to all the victims especially the young lab techโs family. The young lab tech is from a CPD family. As a matter of fact an officer responding to the scene learned it was his relative upon his arrival, terrible way to get the news. Tragedies like these are very far reaching.
So many people do not understand what it means to put on a uniform and volunteer to put yourself into danger for people you don't know and in many cases don't know your name. Some of those same people will curse you and your brothers for just existing. Yet many of us still put on that uniform day after day. Knowing that we can make a difference. Wondering how we will react if a SHTF happens. Officer Jimenez was in such a SHTF instance and he reacted with the courage that all of us pray we have. He spent his life saving the lives of others. His sacrifice is not in vain. Because of him many people will go home to their families.
God speed Officer Jimenez. Your watch is done others will take it from here. Save some room at the big table for the rest of us we will join you eventually.
Godspeed Officer. Thank you.
WGN is Chicago' very own for decades. Ms. Micha the anchor of the evening and late news and all their reporters gave us viewers a heartfelt report until our hero got to the M.E office. You could see and tell Ms. Michah was so thoughtful, respectful in all her comments about the fallen and the CPD. God bless you Ms. Micah, you are a very compassion anchor and reporter.
WGN has always been a friend of the police. In the old days, us old timer' would tip off WGN of breaking news stories. Their man on the midnight's that roamed the city, Larry Shriner was always on the street reporting on the scene news. He was a gem. He always gave praise to the CPD when live reporting on WGN news radio.
Unlike the other 3 news outlets, WGN did not break for commercials and unlike the other news outlets stayed with the live story till the end and with total respect.
Send WGN an email for their total compassion in reporting this very tragic LOD death of our hero.
Thank you so much Ms. Micha.
Rest in Peace Officer Jimenez. My condolences to THE CPD.

So sad
WGN has always been fair to to CPD and we appreciate it !!!
