Vest Saves Officer

(NOTE: This post got mislabeled, so it ended up time traveling back into the archives. We changed it back so it appears in the intended spot.)

Another cop shot in broad daylight:
  • A Chicago police officer was injured when he was shot in the back of his protective vest during a confrontation in the Gresham neighborhood that left the officer’s attacker wounded, police said.

The shooting happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday in the 8700 block of South Marshfield Avenue, police said.

An officer approached a man in his early 20s on the corner of 87th Street and Ashland Avenue who was acting suspiciously, Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, where the officer was being treated and had been stabilized. The man took off running and fired at officers as they pursued him.

Police returned fire and struck the suspected gunman in the neck.
Be very very careful out there. Best wishes to the injured Officer for a full recovery.

How about a study on the racial makeup of who is shooting the police? BLM, ACLU, et all say cops are “target people of color”. Maybe they all got it backwards.

All our guys did a great job. So happy Tact guy ok. What the news media will never pick up, a Sergeant on the scene rendered first aid to the offender by applying a tourniquet. I know, I know, should have let him bleed out. But the Sergeant did the right thing. Of course it won't make the news. Just as one bad cop makes us all look bad, a good thing should make us look good. But, heaven forbid they show as as human beings unless we are killed in the line of duty. Father Faker would never hear of it. Good job Sarge.

Instead of coming up with ideas to help officers and the public to be safe from these criminals roaming our streets, the media and the politicians are talking the BS of gun control. The first thing that should be done, get rid of eddie boy, kimmy fox, and dicky durbin. Let us have 12ga shotguns and train us on the AR-15. Off topic, we lost three of the best and one fucken rat. Oh I almost forgot, fuck you tiny dancer.

Do the vests the LEOs are issued have protective plates front and back, or is that an option that the LEOs have to pay for themselves? Just curious. While the vest can prevent the penetration, the blunt force trauma can be a bitch. Plates would mitigate that.

"Plates would mitigate that."
How true! It's physics. The steel plate takes the hit.
Energy is reduced as the plate moves backwards in the
direction of the projectile. Energy is also reduced as
shock waves radiate outwards from initial strike, then
back and forth to perimeter of plate, eventually reaching
equilibrium at zero wave propigation.
Translation: if you don't have a dorsal torso plate (backside)
it can't help you in an ambush, multiple shooter exposure.

Today, THANKSGIVING, one black family is grieving the murder of their very decent daughter, one white family is grieving the murder of the very decent daughter, one brown family is grieving the murder of their very decent son. All 3 AMERICANS.
Can we please stop talking about what color people are! People are either good or their not. It is the content of character that matters.
No one should be given anything, everyone should be responsible to care for & educate their children and punished when they don't.
Politicians and the media should be punished when they fail to equally represent all. Pastors, reverands and priest should be punished when they fail to encourage and have faith in all.

The police should be allowed to do their job without the rhetoric of those that can not begin to understand it. No police officer should be punished for the failing of parents and/or the state who takes on the responsibilty and also fails the child.
No one should be allowed to sit in judgement of innocence or guilt without all the facts.

I am thankful for the police, the firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses, teachers, sales clerks, bookkeepers, janitors, garbage removers, waiters, caretakers ... I am thankful for all that do their jobs to the best of their ability, abide by the rules and raise their children to do the same.

Today I keep in my heart all those that struggle through missing their loved ones that have been wrongfully taken from the table. I keep in my heart all those home alone with no invitation or phone call. I keep in my heart the children who are never given the chance to see what is right.

Dear G-d, please right the ship, this world is drowning.

gun control talk from the liberal democrats is always the first thing that comes out of their mouths. It is the low hanging fruit of all discussions because the liberals are afraid to put the blame where it really belongs as it is not PC and too many black and brown people might end up in prison ( instead of dead).

The FBI already does it. Feel free to go on their website. They found that 40% of Police Officers nationwide are killed by m/1’s, who only make up 8% of the population. But that number is deceiving because that includes ALL m/1’s. We know 1 year olds are not killing the police, neither are 2,3,4’or 5 year olds.

Nope, M/1’s (M being Male, and 1 being the race code for blacks used in report writing) between the ages of around 15-60 (much smaller population than 8%) are killing 40% of Coppers.

The interview following this incident, shows the ambiguity in current policy, written by Rahm, Lisa and the ACLU. Initially, Fathead Ed praises the officers for seeing the offender as appearing "suspicious", and the based it upon their experience and knowledge of the area. In other words, the actions of the officers would have clearly been a "Terry Stop", as in the Supreme Court Decision of Terry v. Ohio, which gives officers the authority to conduct a Pad-Down search. However, if this subject did not have a firearm; would the officers have been able to satisfy the standards of Lisa, Rahm and the ACLU? These officers did Proactive, Quality "Aggressive" Police work, when they engaged the offender. What these officers did, is NOT what the City wants, and they are almost lucky the Mope Offender was armed. Otherwise, the Officers might have been accused of Racial Profiling; an extremely serious crime in the Age of Political Correctness. Stay Safe and Strong! Baby "G"

We pay for everything. Also, you can buy plates to put in, but you have to take into consideration the added weight. Sounds silly, but when you’re trying to walk around all day, or heaven for bid chase someone, all the weight hinders you. And where this officer got hit, it wouldn’t have mattered, he got hit in the side, rib cage area, not that back.

The City of Chicago does not pay for any personal protection gear worn by officers, except the a bomb suit. Take it to the bank, officers must buy their own gear.

CPD only issues your very first vest. Subsequent ones are up to the officer to buy.
No the issued vests don’t include plates. Plates cost extra and is an option for officers when buying their replacement vests.

To the ass who asked if the Officer got shot in the back how did the other offender get shot: You can not be the police. There are several circumstances on how this could occur. How about the partner of the PO who got shot, shooting the offender? How about the Officer and the offender exchanging gun fire and the officer gets turned around and after he gets hit in the back he turns and fires his weapon hitting the offender. How about the bullet from the Offender gun ricocheting after hitting something and then striking the Officer. You must be a reporter for the Tribune.

Two black parents turned in their sons
who participated in a robbery. Their opinion was them being arrested
might help change their ways. This is how parents behave who really care. We need more parents to support their kids like this. Nothing will probably happen in court but the process might
set these kids straight.

why should it make the news when a cop does the right thing? Every day hundreds of millions of Americans get up and go to work or school or whatever and do the right thing. None of them get any special recognition for it. You act like a cop doing the right thing is something unusual that's worthy of news coverage.

****

Everyone rushes to an active scene of shots fired, person shot, officer shot everyday? Then shows humanity for someone who tried to murder one of their own by rendering medical aid? That’s weird. All of the people shot calls, I don’t recall seeing this. I see people yelling, jumping, running around, motherfucking the police. What I don’t see is citizens ruching to help. In fact, not once has a civilian approached me at a person/people shot and asked, “what can I do to help?”

The original poster simply is saying that we are judged and shit on in the media for anything and everything but the good deeds are rarely covered. You clearly hate the police and are too damn dumb to figure that out.

Not a cop. When a vest gets hit by a bullet I'm assuming it needs to be replaced, correct? I would think any damage anywhere would compromise the integrity overall. And I'm reading it's at the coppers expense. That is beyond rediculious. Is there a program for donating to the cause to offset the expense to CPD patrolman? I'm not talking donating a vest to brass or desk dollies, but to those pushing beat cars. How would I go about getting a vest to a PO who needs a replacement?

While your offer is generous, we get a generous uniform allowance and any work related costs are tax deductible. Also, the vest companies usually replace a vest that has been shot for free in exchange for the damaged vest so they can inspect how the vest performed.
