Another Crimesha Resignation
- Two deputies of embattled Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, including the ethics officer who wrote a memo announcing Foxx had recused herself from the Jussie Smollett prosecution, will leave the office in coming weeks, the Chicago Sun-Times has learned.
Both April Perry, whom Foxx appointed two years ago as the first chief ethics officer, and Mark Rotert, a veteran prosecutor and civil attorney who revamped the review process the office used to review wrongful conviction claims, will leave Foxx’s staff on May 3, according to letters obtained through a public records request.
Perry submitted her resignation Wednesday, and an email sent to staff states she is taking a job as general counsel for a tech start-up. Rotert filed a resignation letter on March 27, coincidentally, the day before the office dropped 16 counts of disorderly conduct charged against the “Empire” actor, Rotert told The Chicago Sun-Times.
“(Smollett’s case) had absolutely zero percent to do with my decision,” Rotert said in a phone interview.
Right - just one of those coincidences that always seem to crop up in politics.

Any good decent State’s Attorney knows how terrible Foxx is for the citizens of cook county. I’d like to see the number of lower level ASAs that left or retired early due to the Kim Fixx effect. Any ASAs know the numbers?

That phrase has a basis in reality - rats on ships generally live in the bilges, the lowest part of the ship, because those are places where the crew rarely go. As a result, rats are the first to be aware that a ship is sinking, because their “home” is the first place that floods.
The analogy to Ms. Foxx and her office is perfect. The State’s Attorney office doesn’t pay as well as private law practice and the surroundings aren’t as nice, but it DOES offer a sense of power and it’s nearly impossible to get fired. So, if the lawyers are bailing out, they must realize that a shit-storm is coming and they want to get out of there before it hits. The rats know the ship is sinking even before Ms. Foxx notices the dampness.

Many, many good line ASAs have left since this administration took over. However, I doubt you could piece together or estimate those numbers without a FOIA request because one of the practices that this administration changed was the way transfers, resignations, retirements, and hires are communicated within the Office...
First they completely eliminated the long-standing regular practice of publishing the inner-office "transfer lists." Then they brought them back for some transfers (there were lots of complaints because sometimes people didn't even know where they were supposed to report for work on Monday), but they curiously no longer included ASAs entering or exiting the Office.
This new way, no one can see a long list of just how many people leave every few months or how many more "advisors" or "officers" are added to the executive staff every month, all while courtrooms continue to be understaffed. Ironic, given that this administration touts its transparency compared to previous admins, no?

Why did Eric Sussman, another former federal prosecutor leave Foxx's ofice abruptly last year ? Was April Perry in on another coverup, someone in State's Attorney's Office knows the truth ?
