Seriously - volunteers to call to remind them of a test they signed up for:
An e-mailer tells us that 2,800 people signed up for the test - and nearly 800 submitted incomplete applications, so they won't be taking the test at all.

- That said, whoever is responsible for drafting the FTO test this morning should never be given said responsibility again. To say I was embarrassed by what was presented to me is an understatement. Frankly, I found the lack of proper English offensive. Sentence structure, grammar, subject/verb agreement, even spelling, were obviously beyond the grasp of the author.
I'll assume there was no proofreading involved, unless it involved the author's children (assuming they are in grade school). I won't even bother getting into the content of the questions, other than a possible suggestion, such as having an officer who's worked the street sometime in the last 10 years point out which issues are no longer relevant.
Absolute farce, and disgrace.
No doubt, drafted, put together and approved by some "merit" picks.

City begging community members to join the department. They are the only ones who “can” pass the psyche exam everyone else is weeded out.
The concept of the phoneathon is a fucking joke. Part of proving you’re a worthy candidate is showing up to each step of the process, and doing so on time. Why would we really want to hire people who we had to remind to show up and take the fucking test that they would’ve otherwise forgotten about if not for the phone call. If you can’t remember the very first step, maybe you’re not mature enough yet for the job. And only 2800 applicants? And only 2000 with complete applications? Holy fuck sticks, the eligibility list only going to be like 1200 people. If that’s. They’ll be lucky to get a few hundred recruits from this test. And I’m sure they will all be of only the highest quality. Let the morons weed themselves out, no phoneathon for you!!

And to think a few years ago Tracey "Lardass" was rejecting more than qualifed candidates because of identity politics. They want the bottom of the barrel people. The Obama administration did the same thing with candidates for air traffic controllers. They geared up the test to reject people with previous aviation backgrounds. The test questions were not related to knowledge of aviation. One of the questions was related to sports one played in high school. You got more points if you played a certain sport. Obama wanted to level the playing field. Look up the scandal it's pretty scarry. Watch for them to level the playing field in medicine that will be even more scarry.
Age caps should be waived for all law enforcement.
Millenials are worthless and I know plenty of worthy older guys who can do more pushups, proofread their exams and pass drug tests. They will be keeping society together until they die. After that, it's over.

I doubt they care at all about that test, since they are going to offer the position to everyone who took it, regardless of their score.

The ridiculous part is there are grammar and spell checkers available. Smart people use them. Competent people also are secure enough to ask for someone to check their work. I guess all this is beyond the ability of the test authors too?
In my room, we had a guy who kept screwing up while filling out the scan-tron answer sheet. They read the directions Out Loud.

Being a police officer here does have it's drawbacks. Have to live here, wear a uniform, take orders, be to work on time, can't smoke dope, no facebook or twitter, drive a squad car without getting into a wreck once a month, shine your shoes, no ponytails, manbuns, or mohawks, go to court on your day off, be proficient with your duty weapon, and spend your entire career dealing with softball bosses. What's not to like about this job.

The FTO test is designed by the FTO's assigned to the academy. Very little oversight to the content of the questions and proofreading is non-existent. This is an example of the new and improved training for the CPD. I assumed everyone that will pass the test will be hired.

As a citizen of Chicago, this bothers me. But if the CPD doesn't hire them, they will get some other tax payer money to become entrepreneurs.
I believe a complimentary bag of weed should be distributed at test site for applicants, that should increase the numbers ten fold...
I'm going and I encourage more to come. I will be calling and telling the applicants they are fucking crazy to want this job and to stay home. Maybe I'll just say the test has been canceled. That may be better.

The sad part is all the people who took the test and could find no errors in the grammar, etc.
Even worse is all the people who did not even come close to passing it.
Why would we want to hire someone that needs to be reminded to take the test? Red flag right there.
Only 2,000 completed applications? WOW! How this job has fallen. Used to get 25,000 apply. Tests were more rare, but even so....

I came on the job at 38 yoa and was having contests with the gym instructors. Not to mention, that at a later age, you have some worldly experience to guide your policing judgement but also are squeaky clean, background wise.

True dat. Where I worked there was a guy that a lot of people taking college classes would go to and have him proofread their papers before turning them in. Including some white shirts.
Remember when they actually had an editor for the daily bulletin? Now they just cut and paste whatever they are sent, mistakes and all.
Rumor has it that Curtain in 025 knew he couldn't write a complete sentence, so he had a watch Lt. write his stuff for the C/O book, etc. He knew he wasn't that smart, but at least looked it on paper.

The staff at the Academy are all clout babies going back to school to get their masters or their PhD. Overheard a couple people talking about getting their law degree while teaching at the police academy the sergeant didn’t look old enough to be on the job ............ Keep hiding the less then worthy training the future
Did it ever occur to anybody that as the standards and requirements are steadily lowered to come on the job , the number of complaints and indictments go up ?
The grammar, spelling, etc., on the ISP CCL application is the same way. Shameful that a state agency puts such a low-brow document out for public view.
I just emailed that address and said I'd volunteer to encourage them to wait for the fire department test.....

In any case, when recruiting a CPS candidate(s) the adversity score has already been factored in...to the last 10 exams.
Maybe they’re tacking on a few more points to keep it well above the 21st Century Task Force hiring guidelines.

Lori, if the comments above are true, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, this is another classic another example of total incompetence in Department Leadership. Whoever is your "guy" now in place to guide Superintendent Johnson over the summer months should guide Johnson right out the door. Forget about police work for a moment, these bums can't even put together a good test to obtain top quality PO's.

Residency is going to be the killer for recruiting. No other city has this and they get applicants from all over the state. This coupled with the war on police and the crumbling pension fund is all very unattractive. CPD is also losing large numbers of recruits freshly trained to outside agencies due to residency.

about a year ago there was a long media story about the stats for military hiring. the military age group is so obese and sickly by percentages that the pool of eligibles is smaller than the total number of bodies the military needs to cycle thru yearly. no wonder a large proportion of military recruits are foreign citizens enlisting to get citizenship. rome did the same thing back in the day when they ran the known world, romans had gotten fat and sassy and rome had to hire foreign mercenarys to police their holdings. wonderhow that worked out for them. r.i.p. united states of america 1776 - 2008.

I am 58 years old I tried the power test at my age and easily past it. It is amazing to see some of the young coppers on the street that are fat and out of shape, in this day and age where the new place to meet Peoples at the gym not at the tavern or the local McDonald’s getting into shape so you can collect your pension yeah it’s critical it’s for your own good.

From the group of recruits I’ve seen, the job is a godsend. You can be unemployable and not even able to properly fill out the employment application and still get hired for a job with good benefits and making close to $100k after 5 years. Good luck trying to talk them out of the job

Results are in. They threw out 3 of the questions. I'm assuming the question about the 17 year old, being kept in the district lock-up, was one of them. Nice job, academy. A simple scan from test.
